Thanks for the input, guys. My budget is around $500 for an LCD/DVD combo set. This TV will be mounted on a wall in my small workout room (12' x 10') which housed our elipticle and Bowflex. I have found well known brand LCD/DVD combos for about $500 or so but they are either 23" or 26" sets...
Does anyone have any input on this TV from Maxent. If not this set in particular, what are your thoughts on the Maxent brand as a whole. I don't plan on using it as my primary TV, it will be mounted in my workout rook only. Thanks!
Hello all. My cousin is building a new home and within it will be a nice home theater. The HT will be in the bonus room built atop his garage. He has ran wires under the flooring via conduits and has yet to conquer the dilemma on where to find a nice projector floor cabinet. He would like for it...
You will be disappointed with the SD pic quality on DLP technology. How far you sit from the set will determine to what extent. DVD 480p will look wonderful and any Xbox gaming you may do. Another thing. Despite these SD PQ shortfalls, I also am getting one of the new Sammy DLP's soon (Sept)...
I just saw the 50" HLP HD3 chip DLP on Crutchfields site. I hope this means the other Sammy DLP (Tantus) screens are going to follow soon!! I've been holding out for the HLP4674W Tantus for it seems like eternity!!
Bob, Thanks for your input. However, I was asking to get an idea how much these professional cal's cost. I have not bought my TV yet (HLP4674W) because it is not available so I am not sure what the picture will look like out of the box. I currently own the Avia cal disk and have used it on my...
Greg, I am going to pick-up one of the new DLP's from Sammy in August/September. In particular, the HLP4674W (46" Tantus). Do you cal these sets, and do they yeild a much better picture following proper calibration opposed to out of the box? Also, what is the cost for one of your cal's? You...

That's odd because I haven't heard any rumblings from TI about releasing an HD4 chip. Heck, the HD2+, HD3, & HD3x aren't even mainstream in RP's yet. Has anyone seen anything on this alleged HD4 chipset??
Can someone recommend a 5.1 speaker package (can be separated by satelittes and sub if need be) that can be had for $300 or less? The front and surround channels need to be compact in size to be discretely mounted in the ceiling corners of the room. Also, the 5 speakers must either be white in...
NZ = New Zealand? I didn't know the Xbox's were different in terms of capabilities, outside the US..interesting. Well, the Sony tech rep lied, or rather overexaggerated if he in fact said their CRT TV's won't suffer screen burn. It comes with the technology. Now if he precluded that response...
Brad, That is a fair observation about the current technologies available. I do want to re-emphasize a few pionts though. The major downfall with LCD technology as a gaming monitor is the motion blur effects and burn-in factors. Motion blur is one of Jay's hot buttons, and you will experience...
The only thing that would ruin it for me is the size of the monitor. A 30" HDTV is probably a 16:9 screen which roughly equates to a 25" 4:3 TV. To me, thats way too small... but then again I'm one of the guys that still thinks size matters. :0
Jay, The smallest DLP by Samsung is 43 inches (HLN437W). All of these DLP's are tabletop sets, which would require a hutch of some sort to sit it on. With that, the 46 version only ways around 80 pounds and is roughly 16 inches deep with an aesthetically pleasing black and silver finish, so...
Jay, Go with a DLP screen. They are THE best for gaming and will also NEVER suffer from any screen burn. I have played Xbox and PS2 on a buddys DLP (Samsung) and it was beautiful! You can get the Sammy 43" version for $3K and the nicer 46" version for $3300. All resolution are 720p native. It...
"The only stiplulations he has are that they are silver speakers (at least the satelittes), and they are small enough to tuck away in the corners of the wall and ceiling." Guys, thanks for the replies on the Fluance set, but it does not meet the criteria I asked for, at all. Small, silver...
A buddy of mine requires a 5.1 speaker setup for his family room. He doesn't need anything extravagant, just something that sounds decent. He opted out of buying a HTIB system because of the lack of flexibility from the receiver component, so a separate speaker system is needed. The only...
I have a buddy that is building a new house and needs a big TV for his gameroom. I had him talked in to the new Sammy DLP's, but after further review due to his room setup and viewing angles, a plasma would be better suited. He is going to position the TV with the center viewing point of the...
The 50 will look better tha the 56 sitting side by side because the screen is bigger and pixels are blown up which in comparison translates to leeser picture quaility. I say go with the 56 over the 50. At a 12-14 feet viewing range, DEFINITELY go with the 56, the salesperson is nuts. I am...
Rich, You mentioned the "ED" Panny's, but those aren't HDTV's are they? I saw a Samsung ED plasma one day and it was around the $3K range too. That is an aweful lot to pay for being non-HD. What does an HDTV Panny cost Rich?
Kevin Ha, I don't think I put that LCD black levels were better than plasma, which in fact they aren't IMO. Rich H, Just out of curiosity, what do these Panny plasma cost? My experience with plasma pricetags are mostly from retail outlets but I cannot recall the Panny prices. Also, the...
