The Philips 642 is a very highly rated player that is very inexpensive. I just bought one for my bedroom and it's pretty neat. It will play Divx/Xvid and also does PAL to NTSC conversion on the fly. Most retailers are selling around $60.
when my house was wired, RG6 was used for the subwoofer run. At first I was confused, but after finding the F to RCA adapters, it works great. I don't hear any difference between direct rca patch to the sub and thru the coax run.
go over to http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/index.php THere you can learn about the wonderful world of JP1. You can customize any jp1 remote to do everything for you. Also, you can find great deals there for the remotes themselves. Jp1 is pretty simple and cheap to get into. A jp1 cable...
I have the HTR 5760 running in 7.1. It rocks. I couldn't have made a better decision. I see you have an HDTV with an HD receiver. The 5760 does not have component upconversion, only svideo upconversion, though it does have component switching. If you don't have enough direct inputs for...
another option is to go ahead and put the speaker binding post plates up instead of the blanks. At least do that when you finish out. It's just a pair of 5 way binding posts in a plate. Check out partsexpress.com for examples.
I had a problem with my OSD flickering over composite. Maybe a cruddy cable, so I turned it off unless I need to tweak settings. This recr is pretty awesome. PL2x kicks all sorts of butt. I have it running in 7.1 for everything. Sat TV sounds pretty awesome. And good 2 ch. sources (like DD...
also, don't forget to run Cat 5 for networking and phone lines for the room. You may have an HTPC later on and you'll want to be able to hook up to the network.
Another vote for master and commander, especially the first encounter with the ghost ship. Also, the asteroid chase in AOTC. Finding nemo, inside the whale.
my sub cabling is like this: RCA from rcvr to wallplate (rca to F adapter) probably 30-40 ft of rg6 inwall to the other plate with the same adapters. RCA from wall to sub. I get no hum at all. Re-check your connections and make sure they are all tight/secure. Maybe you didn't cut the...
I have the Fluance ES-1s and they rock. Granted they are the Fluance top-o-the-line, but they seriously rock on the imaging and sound qual. I agree with the poster above about the center in the HTIB. I have too heard it just doesn't have the reach as the separate center. If you spent a bit...
when i had 5.1, i had the surrounds in the back pointed down to the sweet spot. These were direct firing. When I recently moved to 7.1, I moved those to the side surrounds and put dipole/bipole as the rear surrounds. I believe that the dipoles in the back create a much fuller surround back...
i have a similar setup now with 7.1. I have klipch quintets for my side surrounds and some dipole/bipoles for the rear that are straight side fires. I aim the klipsch towards me and they work great especially after tuning. They are probably 4 feet forward of my sweet spot and 9 feet off the...
the ypao setup rocked for me. All but the side surrounds were dead on at 75 db and they were only 2 db off. It's a very easy setup too. pl2x will take any 2 channel source and convert to 7.1. TV rocks now, especially football. Crowd noise is cool/.
Ive had my 5760 for a week and I wouldn't trade it. With all the decoding algorithms and it's great sound, I think it is the best bang for the buck receiver out there followed closely by the 5790. I don't find it bright at all and watching Sat TV in 7 channel PL2x is awesome. I prefer...
looks like my hunch about the 4 way plate was right. there were 2-3 strands of cable touching between the 2 top connectors. Now, how bout this one? Why does my OSD flicker on the TV. Sometimes it's fine, but then it jumps around a lot. Bad vid cable or something? Picture seems fine though on...
Just had a thoughht about the plate connectors. It is possible that the short is in the original 4 pair plate. This is how they were connected previously LS Open LBS LS speaker RBS RS speaker RS open It now looks like this LS LS speaker LBS LBS speaker RBS RBS speaker (working...
So John, are these symptoms indicative of a short? For example, you may have a short but at low volume/current all seems fine, but at high current, it will trip the protection? I'm going to start by rechecking all the new connections I made last night. Possible locations: 1. the 4 pair...
actually Chris, the problem is in the LS and LBS. One Klipsch (that has worked flawlessly) and one of the new Cambridge. So, this leads me to believe it would be a short unless the LS and LBS channels on brand new unopened recr is bad.
So i hooked up my new 5760 last night. After installing one for my Father In Law last weekend I was so stoked. Previously, I was running a Kenwood VR3080 with a 5.1 setup. All wiring was pulled thru the wall during house construction and I checked with ohm meter for continuity. I had my 2...
found out that GI bought Jerrold who was later bought by Motorola. So, the motorola equiv looks to be the DCT2500. Now, I think remote codes are standardized in the industry, so if anyone could pass along any Motorola cable box codes, that would be cool.
some people say that it's worth it but I don't know. Supposedly it has component switching, component OSD, and actual parametric part of the YPAO auto-setup. If that's worth 200 extra go for it. BTW, the YPAO is really cool. I hadn't ever played with an auto-setup before like from Pioneer or...
The RXV650 and the 5760 are basically the same receiver, if not the same. They are just sold in different retail environments. I just installed a 5760 at my father in laws this weekend and it rocks. He's running a full set of PSB bookshelves, sub, center and surrounds. Sounds awesome and the...
