Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

Yep. I think there has been a bit of retconning on various character ages since the first season (Landry's relationship with Saracen implied that they were the same grade level, he had his driver's license in the first season which would more likely make him a sophomore at the time, etc) but the...

Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

Lyla is getting a send off akin to Smash and Street's. Julie and Landry will still be around and presumably Saracen now. I hope they don't backpedal with Riggins and Tyra just to keep them around.

    Superman Rebooted

With "V for Vendetta" and "Speed Racer" the Wachowskis showed me that they were very respectful to the source material (in the case of Speed Racer some might consider it too faithful for the mainstream) so I can't imagine they would treat "Superman" any differently. People may differ on the...

    Lost: Season 5

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one with a muffled center channel. I just got a new receiver last week and I was worried it was something screwed up in the settings.

    Lost: Season 5

The island is almost certainly moving geographically- in addition to it disappearing right in front of the Oceanic 6 you can also see that the machine that Ms. Hawking was using in the premiere was showing different geographical places the island might appear in at a given time. I expect that...

    Lost: Season 5

Not sure about the rest of the freighter wreckage but unless you are on the specific course heading to leave the vicinity (as the helicopter was at the time IIRC) then I think technically everything is in the radius of the island since it's impossible to ever leave otherwise.

' Yeah, $358 million or not, I'd have to say Caspian was a bomb if for no other reason than it would probably be a franchise killer. If Dawn Treader wasn't already greenlit and well into pre-production, I seriously doubt if it would have seen the light of day.

    2008 at the Box Office

Frankly that's laughable- OotP pretty much had that release slot (and was also considered the "biggest and the best") and while it did fantastic, it was still only $2 million over what Goblet did in November and, as noted before, that was with peak interest in the franchise. Those Dark Knight...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

I don't see that at all. For me, KotCS and TLC are far more similar to each other than they are to the first two films.

I expect we may see a similar jump with Quantum of Solace as each successive Bourne movie did. Since CR and Bourne Supremacy's grosses are relatively comparable, I wouldn't be surprised to see QoS to an Ultimatum-like $220 million.

    Book to Movie....

Hannibal. Both are pretty poor but the movie's ending is slightly more tolerable than the book's. In keeping with Thomas Harris novels, I'll also go with Red Dragon/Manhunter. The book is great but I think Mann's touch makes it even better.

    The Dark Knight (2008)

Someone on another board mentioned that a special feature on the DVD said the same thing. However, I've also seen it mentioned that Bale uses the Batman voice out of costume a few times in TDK (I didn't notice it myself) so perhaps the filmmakers have moved away from that explanation...

    The Dark Knight (2008)

Thanks for the information on the score guys. I can't say I agree about it feeling overwhelmingly like it came from Zimmer. Both films' scores are relatively unique in that I don't think I would be able to guess who scored them without knowing in advance (something I can't say about most Zimmer...

    The Dark Knight (2008)

Anyone know the how or why Zimmer and Howard teamed up in the first place? Both are such AAA level composers that such a collaboration seems unusual, though I'm not complaining since I love the score for both films.

Avatar (or something like it) could end up being the wild card. It seems like Cameron's mandate on Avatar is to try and create something that *must* be experienced on the big screen.

    The Dark Knight (2008)

I think the added danger to Batman's image can definitely help him, but I'm not convinced that it's something Batman actually wants (especially with part of it being "cop killer") nor something he actually considered in the heat of the moment.

    The Dark Knight (2008)

Clearly a lie. Joker is obviously a helluva planner. You can't trust a single thing he says (hence the multiple stories on how he got his scars).

Yeah, at only a $30 million budget I can't see how Fox will lose money once ancillaries are accounted for. Especially since they didn't seem like they wanted to spend much to market it.

    The Dark Knight (2008)

This is more of a discussion for the box office thread, but as great as it is to get $200 million, I gotta think there are some folks at Disney and Pixar pretty disappointed with that gross. A lot of people seemed to think Wall-E stood a really good chance at making a run for top grossing Pixar...

    The Dark Knight (2008)

It may not be realistic, but I like it because it represents exactly why Wayne decided to become Batman in the Begins: quote="Bruce Wayne"]People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can't do that as Bruce Wayne, as a man I'm flesh and blood I can be ignored I can be...

    The Dark Knight (2008)

It seemed like this film purposely removed some of the mystique that Begins tried to give the character. He spends more time "in the light" and it's rather jarring and almost absurd to see him just hanging out in a well-lit interrogation cell. Even the opening fight in the parking garage, the...

    The Dark Knight (2008)

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want to remove any of the location work but a little bit more integration in some of those skylines would have helped the connection for me. And maybe make the bar that Gordon arrests Maroni in be the same bar that Wayne visited Falcone in. As is, I'm thinking that...

    The Dark Knight (2008)

If there was one thing I prefer in Begins, it's the conception of Gotham. I loved the way that Nolan combined Chicago exteriors, CG altered skylines, and extensive stagework. It made Gotham feel very unique. In TDK it was too close to Chicago. The more extensive on location work was great, but I...

    The Dark Knight (2008)

Very well said, Mike. For all of the pre-release attention on The Joker, TDK was very much about the rise and fall of Harvey Dent and the film would have been dramatically weakened if any part of that arc had been removed or shoved off to a third film. Dent really is the focal point that...

Little premature to make that call on Star Trek- it's still almost a year out and any efforts of Paramount to market it to non-Trekkies will only become apparent toward the end. But, yeah, it sure seems like Fox is screwing up with the X-Files.

    Terminator 4

Yeah, in retrospect, T2 doesn't seem too graphic violent. Outside of the language in the movie, I could see it warranting a PG-13 (not sure where the MPAA stands on male backside nudity these days). Even the killing of John's foster parents was remarkably bloodless considering what happened.

    2008 at the Box Office

Terminator and Terminator 2 came close as well. T2's $31 million opening weekend gross (which was actually it's 3-5th day or release) vs the $38 million gross of the first film.

Excellent point, though I would still expect some degree of a bump since the parents who may be taking those kids may not have been off until Saturday.
