If they can remove the wires from every wire-fu movie, why couldn't five seconds of a movie be cleaned is beyond me. Even an entry level Photoshop user would be able to do such a fix.

Stick it to The Man... Three words: Region Free Player. I have been enjoying the UK version of this title for quite a long time.

The UK version has the original Portuguese track in Dolby Digital. The only extra is the feature documentary News from a Private War, running 50 plus minutes, about life in Rio's favelas. As gripping as the movie itself.

No. I picked this version in Toronto. I was feeling bad because we had to wait two weeks more that the US to get this DVD. Good things happen to those who wait!

Another Guy Maddin silent short, can be found in the WD collection SHORT volume 2. The piece is called Eye Like A Strange Ballon. This DVD also happen to have Chris Marker's La Jetee, which was the inspiration for 12 Monkeys.

Tired of waiting for Delicatessen to be released in Region 1, I took the advice of some members here at the HTF, and bought a Region Free player and ordered the R2 version of this movie. Even if this was the only movie I could play on my new player, I would be more than happy with my purchase...

Sometimes this "extra" material doesn't even come in a separate DVD. Case in point, Highlander Season 2 came with an exclusive featurette on the 4th disc for copies bought in certain store. That means they even go to the trouble of mastering separate disc for these retailers.

Not sure about this, as I have not seen it. But since you are a Napoleon fanatic, I strongly recommend - that is, if you don't have it already - The Emperor's New Clothes , with Ian Holm. While not historically accurate, it is a great take on Napoleon's last days. J

I would have to agree with Simon. The problem I see with the HTF reviews, is that the reviewers are assigned by studio. This may be practical when distributing the DVDs amongst the various reviewer, but in my opinion, they should be done rather but genre, based on reviewers' sensitivity, taste...
