I did a search on this Korean movie, but I didn't find any hits. My apologies if this has been mentioned before... But I would like to recommend Natural City. This sci-fi may borrow heavily from other movies (specifically Blade Runner), but nevertheless, I quite enjoyed it. The acting is top...
24 frames for 5 seconds... A good Photoshop artist could have cleaned the digital master to be used for the DVD, with a VERY low budget. I am not sure how to upload pictures here, otherwise I would show you what 2 minutes of work with my limited knowledge of Photoshop can do to remove the...
If they can remove the wires from every wire-fu movie, why couldn't five seconds of a movie be cleaned is beyond me. Even an entry level Photoshop user would be able to do such a fix.
Eric: Thanks for the recommendations. Dark is good. As much as I love all the Hollywood mainstream films, I also love the unconventional stuff coming out of other areas of the world. And as of now, the freshest ideas are coming out of Korea. I also have Silmido but haven't watched it yet...
Does it matter? OLDBOY is so powerful it could be in mono, and I couldn't care less. The greatest director working right now in any country in the world is Chan-wook Park, bar none.... I also loved JSA and can't wait to get my hands on Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. And indeed Min-sik Choi is...
Brian: Regarding your comments about Tony Ching Siu-tung VS Ed Wood.... My hat is off to you. You definitely know your (B movies) cinema. I always enjoy reading your comments in this and other threads. I understand completely your comments about Planet 9, and Ed Wood's work in general, and...

Naked Weapon a good movie? You guys must be feeling so bad about watching it, that you want other people subjected to watch this piece of crap... The movie sucks... the story stinks... the acting is the worst I have ever seen... The male lead, whatever his name is, has to be The Worst actor I...
The UK version has the original Portuguese track in Dolby Digital. The only extra is the feature documentary News from a Private War, running 50 plus minutes, about life in Rio's favelas. As gripping as the movie itself.
No. I picked this version in Toronto. I was feeling bad because we had to wait two weeks more that the US to get this DVD. Good things happen to those who wait!
Another Guy Maddin silent short, can be found in the WD collection SHORT volume 2. The piece is called Eye Like A Strange Ballon. This DVD also happen to have Chris Marker's La Jetee, which was the inspiration for 12 Monkeys.
This is great stuff guys. I see a few things already that I will have to buy now. Please keep adding to the list: Anamorphic, DTS, Uncut versions, Special Editions.... Lots of benefits owning a region free player.
Thanks a million Brian. I will certainly check your links. If Carlos Saura's El Amor Brujo is one of the films I will now be able to watch, I will be a happy man!
Tired of waiting for Delicatessen to be released in Region 1, I took the advice of some members here at the HTF, and bought a Region Free player and ordered the R2 version of this movie. Even if this was the only movie I could play on my new player, I would be more than happy with my purchase...
Sometimes this "extra" material doesn't even come in a separate DVD. Case in point, Highlander Season 2 came with an exclusive featurette on the 4th disc for copies bought in certain store. That means they even go to the trouble of mastering separate disc for these retailers.
Not sure about this, as I have not seen it. But since you are a Napoleon fanatic, I strongly recommend - that is, if you don't have it already - The Emperor's New Clothes , with Ian Holm. While not historically accurate, it is a great take on Napoleon's last days. J
It's not my intention to "fart" in this thread, but just for comparison sake (I always look for several reviews of movies or DVDs before I decide on my purchase), check Mike Restaino's review at DVD File. He actually gives a good grades not only to the movie (which it is a completely subjective...
I would have to agree with Simon. The problem I see with the HTF reviews, is that the reviewers are assigned by studio. This may be practical when distributing the DVDs amongst the various reviewer, but in my opinion, they should be done rather but genre, based on reviewers' sensitivity, taste...
Why even bother doing a review when you only have 2 DVD's out of six? Even if any featurettes and documentaries are on discs 1 and 6, you will be missing on the commentaries. It will not be a complete review, so you will not be fully prepared to do a "buy" or "pass" recommendation. That is my...
