How much tilt are you talking about? There are a number of plasma wall mounts which let you tilt the panel 5 or 10 degrees, which should be enough for most uses. I wouldn't want to tilt one more than that, though. Jack
I've read that the analog RadioShack SPL meter has been discontinued. Is it still available anywhere? If not, is the RS digital SPL meter the next best choice or would you go with some other brand analog meter? I briefly looked at the manual for the RS digital model. I can understand that it...
There are basicly two types of IR repeaters. Both have some type of receiver or eye which you place where it can pick up signals from your remote, as mentioned above. it relays the signal to the repeater to control your equipment. One type of repeater just has one unit which sends out a...
I'd be interested in what Panamax says. The Max8DBS+5 has 2 inputs 'engineered' for cable and 2 'engineered' for satellite, so I would assume there is a difference. I think I read somewhere that satellite systems operate with different voltages from cable. Jack
You'd definitely be smart to do some research before getting a remote. A $20 model from RadioShack may be all you need, but there's plenty of other choices available too. Check out http://www.remotecentral.com/index.html for a start. Jack
In my experience, most remotes these days are multibrand. They usually will control more functions on other equipment from the same manufacturer, but come with lists of codes which you can 'program' into the remote to enable it to operate at least the basic functions of other brand equipment...
I just got a Panny TH-42PA20U/P mounted up on the wall and running last Saturday, with a viewing distance of about 10 feet. I've seen people complain on some of the forums that NTSC looks crappy. I watch a lot of satellite TV and while the quality does vary from channel to channel, I think...
I trying to decide how to place my components on the shelves I'm using. The A/V receiver goes on the bottom shelf. That leaves 3 shelves and 4 components: DISH receiver DVD player CD changer VCR The shelves are completely open with plenty of room between shelves, so ventilation won't...
Thought this might be interesting to anybody just starting on the Midnite Movies. Midnite Movies set at DeepDiscountDVD for $69.98 ncludes the following Midnight Movies: The Abominable Dr. Phibes Dr. Phibes Rides Again! The Fall of the House of Usher The Pit and the Pendulum It! The...
Is there only the 4 disc version of the extended edition? The listing at Bestbuy.com doesn't label it Platinum Edition and the title of the webpage says 2 pieces. I wondered if they just recycled the title from the earlier release and didn't noticed the error. Jack
I want to check out some of Criterion's Kurosawa when I get the chance, so it'd be nice to know for sure how to correctly pronounce his name :) So is it ku-RO-sawa or kuro-SA-wa? Jack
I just got some of these from partsexpress http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd..._ID=2476&DID=7 Haven't had a chance to try them yet, but they look like they're high quality. Jack
Have you tried running a signal directly from the HD box to the plasma TV, even though you may want to run it through the receiver? This eliminates any possible degradation the receiver could be doing to the signal. Try the same thing with the DVD player. Also, some people have found that...
A friend of mine recently had ceiling fluorescent lights installed in a room in his basement. He says that they cause interference on his TV in his living above them, both with the satellite box and watching DVDs. Any suggestions what he can do for this? Thanks, Jack
Yeah, I hope they do. I enjoy watching concerts and performances on TV, since I don't go out to live ones very often. I'd also like to get Harry Chapin or Cat Stevens. Jack
Chu, Good advice on depending more on homeowner's insurance for covering damage. I had a ham radio damaged from a lightning strike to a tree near the house. Homeowner's covered it without any problem. I'm not surprised that the surge protector manufacturers would make you jump through hoops...
If I have my HT components connected to one surge protector and my TV connected to another surge protector on a different outlet (because they aren't located right together), would I need to worry about ground loops or any other grounding problems? I'm considering using a Panamax Max 8 for...
I should have known there would be folks here who would understand. I was the only one who placed a bid, so needed some reassurance I'm not just dumb :D Thanks, Jack
