Looking at a few minutes of "The Chase," followed by the first episode of "Planet of Giants," I"m quite happy with the picture quality. Also happy with the copious bonus material. And happily anticipating rewatching hours of Hartnell fun.
The burning question is answered: for US audiences, The...
"Who's that girl?" (/Madonna) ;)
2-episode-per-disc original DVD release (2001): "Reena"
Season set DVD release (2004) (un-remastered): "Reena"
Season set DVD release (2008) ("remastered" / CGI effects): "Rayna"
Thank you, ScottRE, for catching the different credit cards and screencaps.
It was just this past Friday night that I regained the original-release 40-DVD version of TOS, so was able to check that ("Reena"), the season DVD set ("Reena") and the remastered season DVD set ("Rayna").
I agree...
"The Wedsworth - Townsend Act" is included on disc 1 of season 1, the pilot TV movie.
Can't speak to a 5th-season two part clip show, but is it possible you're thinking of "Greatest Rescues of Emergency," one of the specials in the year after the 6th season (collected in "...The Final...
Thanks to fan-boy-type record keeping, I can say this will be at least the 15th time I've seen a cut of the film in a theater (whether 35mm, 70mm, or DCP) since 1979. Not counting hands-on running a 16mm print at a convention, viewing a 35mm run at a college.... ;)
Jumping back up-thread a bit, I'll confirm the original music for "City on the Edge..." was included on at least the first copies of the all-series tape releases. I bought those ten-per-release tapes on Beta & kept them well past the first DVD releases; have just a few Betas on hand now (sold...
I'd thought the viewings on Para+ might suffice, but...
Monday evening; we're the first couple committed then. Unfortunately, other things going on today.
Here's a cut 'n paste of my 2014 review on Amazon:
Based on viewing one episode from this package and a quick look at the A&E DVD transfer, the picture quality is vastly improved. Obviously better resolution on the Blu Ray, plus a better source print.
The sound, however, has been rechanneled...
This past week my wife and I spent a few days of vacation with a college-era friend of mine, first time we'd been able to visit in about 22 years (contact's been kept by email, etc.)
In keeping with "it's been a long time," we watched some stuff -- old school.
16mm film. "Home Theater" indeed...
Interesting discussion. Looks like a few years back I got one of the 4GB sets too - around $35, new, with hype sticker as pictured elsewhere in this thread. I didn't have any issues with it*, have been slowly watching an episode here & there as time permits. Pic quality seemed OK, the disc inner...
Monty Python would be wonderfully tempting if I hadn't bought it pre-release from Network. :)
On the other hand, Wonder Woman '84 (simple blu-ray) was $12.99 on Saturday. We bit, ordered a few accompanying items.
Yesterday we received notification that WW84 was shipping separately, arriving...
It's probably well-known that the second season will see DVD release on January 12 '21.
Looking in on another forum, there will also be a BD-R (MOD) release, which is probably what I'll (blind) buy. Haven't budgeted for CBS streaming in-home; I'm content to bring in physical media for the...
Like some others, I did receive a replacement disc (regular blu-ray), tossed bare into a padded envelope.
The pressing numbers are different*, but the 2.0 "original mono track" does appear to be, again, the fold-down of the multichannel / added effects track, based on one shot very late in the...
I just received the same sort of response - essentially a carbon copy of my submitted information and remarks / request.
I'll assume that's a confirmation USHE has collected my information and will eventually route it to their replacement vendor.
Temple Drake was my in-store purchase near the beginning of the sale. I'd hoped for War of the Worlds but the last copy was on hold for a customer who ultimately got it; since then all locations within 100 miles have been out of stock. Ended up ordering in-store / ship to home today - plenty of...
In a compromise between budget, price, existing accounts and speed of shipping, my pre-order from Movie-Zyng (Allied-Vaughn) shipped last night and is due to arrive this coming Friday (21st).
(Droopy) "I'm happy." (/Droopy)
Tony -
None of the commercials stood out in memory, except for this: all of them had run often enough on network TV at that time that I remember having seen them repeatedly.
Didn't run the commentary tracks, so now I'm curious enough to sample it again...
...sometime. :)
And yes, after the...
Chiming in because I just finished watching my copy of the blu-ray box set...
The 20 to 25 seconds or so of absent Jerry Lee Lewis wasn't especially noticeable; I ran the sequences back to back (blu / DVD) for comparison. Unfortunately I wasn't checking sound quality carefully, so I can't give...
Nope - Westbrook Van Voorhis' voice was one for the newsreels. :)
A long time friend invited my wife and myself out to watch the first couple episodes when they dropped on CBS-AA.
I think, perhaps, as much for the fun of watching my reactions as anything else.
Despite what I thought then and...
Followup - I did watch the other four episodes currently available, enjoyed them.
Now the twist:
Because we've just "cut the cord" and severed relations with Spectrum, I won't be seeing the last six episodes any time soon.
Will hope for an eventual physical media release -- or even streaming...
Having actually watched the first two episodes today...
I'm cool with it. I laughed, I enjoyed it, and I'll watch the rest when time permits.
I liked these characters back then, and I'm happy to have the chance to see what's been happening in their world since.
Simple as that.
My wife and I were able to see this last night, courtesy of another HTF member.
It was presented with what I take is typical Fathom-Event quality, but it was a pleasure to see these nearly-60-years-old "little TV episodes" on a theater screen with crystal-clear sound. (I could hear the minor...
Agreed.
The only possible exception might be those sets that were gently cradled by European swallows.
(or was it African swallows?)
Yes, my box's inner dividers were obliterated - I had a stealth delivery yesterday afternoon unseen until 4:30 this morning as I went to work.
The main...
It is indeed - that's why I was happy to get it out of the way as soon as possible, to better enjoy the good episodes.
(I'd seen most of the show in syndication from 1985 onward. With the whole works available uncut in the briefcase set, I could skip around as I pleased.)
I've kept both the individual-disc TZ releases and my own key to which episode's where on what disc, so I can research when needed.
(Stuff like "which main title design is used for a first season show: original run or network repeat....")
All that despite - or because - of the "definitive" DVD...
The Great Waldo Pepper is tempting, as I enjoyed that film when first released.
But I've had the DVD for some years, and don't think I've watched it more than twice, so while It's a solid film for me....
Rewatch value is certainly subjective.
I confirmed it here when I noticed some discoloration on a season 1 disc. "Had" to watch the pilot, then fast-forwarded the other three episodes plus bonus features to ensure they still tracked / played OK.
The disc is fine, and it was tons of fun for me...
Condolences to Matt H (post 4 above) on his trials with CBS.
Elementary - Final Season came home today, despite Amazon shipping in "one to three months," Best Buy and Target "not in stores."
Barnes and Noble came through at 30% off list, and it was physically in the store for purchase.
Both...
Decided to give Movie-Zyng a try for Popeye this time around. Ordered Saturday; shipped yesterday, expected in home by this Friday.
If all continues smoothly I'll probably stay with them for future MOD orders.
