Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

This topic seems to have aroused passions and hurt vanities of SVS owners who feel they are in the ream of the Gods. Mere mortals in Staten Island and NY are not worthy of the Holy Grail of subs, namely the SVS. Dustin, instead of challenging me, check with SVS on their NY sales rooster...

Robert, Thanks you for your nice perspective. I have listened to the SVS subs in my freind's house where his setup was all speakers set to small and the sub connected to line in. He likes that setup and sound, I dont and that is my taste. The Yamaha amps and speaker including magnets...

Dustin, I guess the exclusive SVS are not avaialable to us lowly third world Indians or even NYorkers. Three of my freinds in NYC have it and I will gladly give you their address if you wish to confirm it. If your Canadian dollars can afford a ticket to NY, go visit them in Staten Island...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

This is for Dustin, I live in Staten Island NY as well as in India. Due to my work, I have to do to and fro between the two countries. I have auditioned SVS subs in NYC and before you get all sarcastic and cocksure and call me a liar here is a list of dealers who sell SVS subs. The subs are...

Bruce, I dont care to know about Tom Noussaine as there are many like him all across the world. Do you know Lucio Cadedu? Would you care to know about him? I really doubt it. Dynaudio speakers are very good but I had to post in that manner to get your response. Now I hope everyone will...

The Yamaha sub is so good it must have Video Stage 5. Lee, Actualy it has a stage called brick shake where it turns my solid concrete house to silly putty and my windows shake loose from their housings. 2.800Watts+300watts soon to be replaced by 2x1500watts( YST-SW1500) in front and...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Dan, I spend significant portion of my life in the US( 22 years ) and then went back to India. My taste in music is mostly western classical, 60's R&R and Blues like BB King and some Jazz( Shirley Bassey, Louis Armstrong etc.), Pink Floyd, Santana etc. I also listen to old Indian music. My...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Dan, If the woofers dont have to move in the main speakers even when the receiver is set to LARGE, how can it put more strain to the amp as to my knowledge, it is the woofers which consume the maximum power. Logical, since it is the heaviest driver which needs the maximum movement against a...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Lee, I have never said my method was superior, only that I had better results according to my ears and the Avia test disc and my Radio Shack SPL meter. To plot a frequency chart would require equipment which I currently dont have. I just wanted inputs from others, but sadly it turned to be a...

Sorry for the typo mastah. Been a long day for me at the univ. It is indeed Sonus Faber, wonderfuly made Italian speakers in beautiful piano finish. The Extremas are work of art. Surprised to see an AR man even caring or knowing about them. Feel better now that you have corrected a typo?:D

You seem to be fairly uninformed about basic acoustic principles. Multiple subs, by the way, is likely to cause more problems than it solves (room induced modal peak destructive/ constructive interference). It is you who is showing ignorance. Just visit a theater and you will know that...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

That fact that you havent heard any speakers from Yamaha shows your typical ignorance. My post was to do with the effect of two subs and for that I get put downs on my equipment from a man who is afraid to list his in the profile. There are few posts on the NS-300 in this forum, read...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Dan, If you had any experience with Yamaha audio, apart from their musical system, you wouldn't have made the unprovoked statement regarding Yamaha speakers in general. I guess, your exposure to Yamaha is limited to musical instrument s only. Yamaha has historically made fine music and...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Dustin, I have auditioned the Yamaha YST-SW 1500 thoroughly and own a pair of YST-SW800, so at least in this case, it is my expereience, not theory. If we are to go by your contention on subs, we need to purchase a house and use it up to store the sub. Now what makes you think that the...

    Speaker ratings/receiver ratings

Paul, It is a bit confusing but Yamaha in this case means that the RMS power is 80x5 and this will be delivered at the rated frequency bandwidth. Hope this helps. I wouldnt worry about it as the 80x5 rating is very conservative and Yamaha ususaly delivers more that what it rates.

Thanks Jason, the Outlaw unit does look promising but I am interested in putting minimal amount of proccesing and keep my signal path pure and simple. Adding this to the signal path might alter the sonic signature of Yamaha which I prefer although I do wish Yamaha had incorporated something...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Gotta thank you for entertaining me with some great assumptions. A DIY sub taking on a 100 year old company dedicated to music. What next, a Grand Piano with more bass maybe? Hoffman's Law described by Henry Kloss and later mathematicaly derived by Theile describes the relationship between...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Michael, Many thanks for your advice. I was using this method before. My contention is with the fixed LFE setting on the recievers. In my case, I would like my towers to only get signals up to 45Hz and leave the rest of the dirty work to my subs. This way, I get way more clarity for some...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Yamaha makes the most musical tight sub and is not for people whose idea of bass is boominess. Very few subs in North America comes close to the accuracy of the Yamaha YST-SW800/1500. They will sound underported to ears expecting something other than real bass. Audio World in Germany, Hi-Fi in...

Dan, You have no idea about Yamaha in general, much less about their speakers. I guess your idea of Yamaha subs and speakers is the crap you see at Best Buy as most of the high end Yamaha speakers arent even available in the US. Have you heard of the NS-1000x? I dont think so or else you...

Which is the best way to listen?

2 channel stereo mode with my CD player connected to the ouboard proccesor main input (6ch mode) on my Yamaha DSP-AZ1. This is the only way to go analog as the regular CD input alongwith all other inputs on the Yamaha are digitized. Otherwise for exclusive music auditon I use my other system...

Brett, Your case is unique as most speakers don't have the facility of built-in subs with the exception of few like the JBL L7. So I guess the LARGE setting is sufficient enough for you. In a way by using two similar subs I am trying to acheive the same thing like you. Dustin, You are...

Freedom from HT amp's fixed bass management

Brett, Speakers will only recreate what is passed on to them so in this case all LF component below 45Hz is passed on to the sub, thereby relieving the towers to do a better job. As you may be aware that the more the woofer moves, the less clearer the sound is. In this case the woofer...

While on the subject of subs, I decided to free myself from the chains of my HT amps bass management which is limited to sending out 90Hz signals to the sub out. To achieve this I connected both of my subs to the passive inputs and then attached my main speakers to the sub. My main speakers are...

    Paradigm Studio tweeter question

Silk dome tweeters are very resilient in this respect. All you need is to suck them out to bring them back to their proper shape. There is no audio degradation with the dents. However in metal tweeters, small dings are nothing to worry about but big dents is where I would start thinking of...

What kind of amps are people using for 2 Channel?

I have a dual mono Yamaha MX-1 and MX-1000U. Both are class A amps rated to drive into 1 ohms. They feature twin 750VA transformers with 10 MOSFET output devices per chanel. They are very warm and analytical amps and can compliment good speakers very well.
