Samsung 61" DLP vs. Mitsubishi 65713

I chose the Sammy HLN617W over the 65" Mitsu two months ago and couldn't be happier. The Mitsu could be said to have better picture quality but it is at the expense of possible CRT burn-in. That said, I still think the picture of a DLP Samsung is fabulous. As previously mentioned, look at...

SVS PB2-Plus Test and Review - Long

Joel - just curious - approximately when did you place your order? I ordered around the first week of June and am trying to get a feel for how much longer I might have to wait. Congratulations on your DUAL PB2+s! You are a lucky man!

Any tricks for programming learning remote? Trouble w/ Samsung HLN617W

I love the TV - I couldn't be happier with my choice! After further testing, it seems that I have in fact ran out of space which is why I’m getting the NG code. I’ve seen another post indicating that the 49TXi supposedly has a capacity of 271 items. I called Pioneer and they said that perhaps...

Any tricks for programming learning remote? Trouble w/ Samsung HLN617W

I'm having mixed luck trying to program my 49TXi learning remote with keys from my Samsung HLN617W DLP TV. I’ve been able to program the volume and channel keys for the TV Control button. I am now trying to program all of the keys on the TV button. For example, I’m now trying to program the...

And I thought people were joking around with talk of the PB2-Ultra . . . All I can say is - YIPPEEEEE!

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

Krishna, I was able to get an incredible deal on my equipment – all from an authorized dealer at essentially internet prices (or even better). I was able to get the following equipment at a local store (no shipping charges) for $7419.85: 2 - KEF 201, 1 KEF 202C, Pair of Black KEF 201...

    Mits 2004 65" or Sammy 61" DLP

I considered the same choices and went with the Samsung HLN617W. I couldn't be any happier with my choice after having had it in my home for a couple of weeks!

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

I just got KEF 203s for my fronts, 201s for the rears and a 202c center channel. I'm waiting on a SVS PB2-Plus for my sub. I am using a KEF PSW4000 sub in the meantime. I think the sound is fabulous for both music and home theater. The imaging from these speakers is incredible! My wife and I...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

Krishna, I think your plan sounds very good. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the XQ5s and XQ1s. I think the toughest thing will be waiting until September to enjoy them! I called KEF America this past week and they said the XQs should begin showing up in more locations throught the US...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

Philip, Even though I may at some point upgrade to something similar to the Anthem AVM20, I decided to go with the Pioneer 49TXi for now. I decided to invest the money that I didn't spend on the Anthem (or similar) to make the upgrade from the XQ series to the Reference series. I figured I'd...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

Philip, Thanks for the info! The matching info is particularly helpful. I'll be getting KEF 203s later this week. I hope to get my 202c soon. At this point, I don't have a great receiver or amp to drive them but that will change soon. I'm interested to hear how your auditions turn out...

Advice on speakers under $5000 and $10K total

DJ_JonnyV, I'm glad they will be carrying the full KEF line. I very much look forward to it. Here is the MSRP for the KEF XQ series: XQ5 - $1,500 each XQ3 - $1,000 each XQ2c - $1,450 each XQ1 - I'm not sure $700 to $750 each sounds about right though. I think you must have looked...

Advice on speakers under $5000 and $10K total

Filiberto, As I see it you've got $2,000 left for the Pioneer DV-47Ai DVD player, an inexpensive subwoofer, 12 gauge speaker wire and bookstands. All kidding aside, I think you can find the KEFs in South America. You really should try to find a place to listen to them. I've compared them...

Advice on speakers under $5000 and $10K total

Jon - I'm surprised they had the XQs at Ultimate Electronics. Their sister stores in Minnesota (Audio King) only carry the Q and Reference Series. I really hope they get the XQs soon as it would be great to listen the XQs next to the References to make a comparison.

Advice on speakers under $5000 and $10K total

Filiberto, I'm looking to stay under $10,000 for a nice home theater setup as well. I plan to stick the most money into my speakers so I won't have future "ugrade-itis" in that regard. It seems to me that this will provide an easier, less expensive path to separates down the road if I desire...

Official DVD ETC. review request thread -- request equipment reviews here!

Manoj, I finally found a copy of the March 2003 issue in which you reviewed the KEF Reference series 205/201/202c. Nice review! Most importantly, your description of the sound compares with what I heard. I look forward to finding your July issues on the newsstands for your follow-up...

Buyer’s remorse? Ever wish you bought separates?

Alan - I look forward to your review. I'm curious as to whether you will notice any difference in the quality of sound between your old 09TX and the new 950. Have fun! I look forward to your post.

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

Philip, I think your dealer is feeding you a typical salesman line of BS. I'm sure KEF would like to have dealers maintain the established retail price to the best of their ability but they truly can't control what a dealer does. A dealer needs to make money but they don't have to make a...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

Krishna, Thank you for the very nice review. It is too bad you had to drive over 100 miles and only end up with 20 minutes of listening time. I really wish you had the chance to listen to the fuller sounding XQ5 and XQ3. I'm surprised they had only the XQ1 for you to audition. Considering...

Buyer’s remorse? Ever wish you bought separates?

Arthur and Donnie are definitely right recommending that we demo all equipment in our own home at the same time. I’ve got to say, I sure would love to demo the Pioneer VSX-49TX vs. either the Outlaw 950 / 770 or the Rotel RSP-1096 / RMB-1095 side-by-side as they all are in the same relative...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

At this point, if I go for the KEF Reference series, I plan to buy used equipment at Audiogon or elsewhere. If I go with the XQ series, I will check out internet prices for negotiating power and more than likely buy locally. I'm assuming the sales tax vs. the shipping costs will equal themselves...

Duel 25-31CS+ versus PB2+ Thread help suggestions.

Edward - I absolutely can't wait for you review. I hope you get your new PB2+ soon!!! This should prove very interesting. I'm also curious how the PB2+ will compare to the Velodyne HGS-18 - I know it's a huge price disparity but I'll bet the SVS will compare quite favorably.

Buyer’s remorse? Ever wish you bought separates?

I’m interested in the opinions of those of you who have bought flagship type receivers (i.e. Denon 5803, Pioneer VSX-49TX, B&K AVR-507, etc.) as to whether you’ve ever thought you would have been better off buying separates instead. I’m planning on getting a Pioneer VSX-49TXi in the near...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

Your proposed setup with the Eggs in for the 4 surround speakers sounds interesting! What did the dealer say about the similar setup he installed for someone else? The nice thing about having Eggs in the back is that you can always upgrade to more 201s as your budget allows. Please make a post...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

KrishnaP, I think your suggested change to Option 3 makes very good sense. The KEF stands are very expensive as compared to other brands that look nice and serve the same function. If you have the room, it makes much more sense to go with 4 XQ5s rather than 2 XQ5s and 2 XQ3s on speaker...

Help me choose - KEF Reference 200 Series vs. new KEF XQ Series for Home Theater

My system will be used primarily for home theater (85%). I plan on using a Pioneer Elite VSX-49TXi receiver (130 watts per channel over 7 channels at 8 ohms) which I expect will do everything I want. I figure I can always add amps or go to components later if I desire. I currently have a 10”...

I'd love to see a review of the KEF XQ series of speakers. As they are relatively new, I haven't been able to find either magazine or customer reviews. I have listened to them and found their sound to be excellent but I'd love to see the opinions of the pros.
