Samsung DLP TV's - need help.

Here is an "unofficial guide" to the Samsung DLPs. I've found it very informative, both before and after my purchase. Unofficial guide to Samsung DLP

Samsung DLP TV's - need help.

I've got the 50" version, a great T.V. all around. I would recommend it without hesitation, but verticle viewing angles might warrant some caution depending on how high off of the floor you are talking about when you say above the fireplace. Horizontal angles on the Samsung DLPs sets are the...

    A few Samsung DLP questions

Oops. Sorry, thought I read it someplace. . .a double check, all at 9000rpm? I hate the thought of adding any misinformation, there is enough of that on the net already! I have found myself pretty much on my own tweak wise with my HLN. If there is something I'm jeolous of is the amount of...

    A few Samsung DLP questions

HLN includes a faster color wheel, less rainbow effect. HLN includes DNIE, DNR Engines. HLN models all include the faroudja (DCDi). Regarding the extra costs, I would say yes, at least it was to me. Contrary to marketing differences, *all* HLN models include the same internal electronics...

    Mits 2004 65" or Sammy 61" DLP

No burn in worry for DLP. As far as which is better, I choose DLP, but I do think it is a personal choice. Try to demo the sets next to each other if you can.

Help with selecting a TV for under $3000

I started out with the $3000 and under TV budget as well, but I ended up stretching a few hundred more and got the 50" Sammy DLP once I saw it and read a bit about the benefits of the technology. If you can find the money, I suggest considering it. If you shop around, you can get them hundreds...

    What size rear projection TV

I've got a 50" DLP, 10' is optimum for me watching a variety of materials. I think as with any rule of thumb, personal preferences vary. I'm speculative that kind of T.V. technology might also influence distance preference?

    Mits 2004 65" or Sammy 61" DLP

I was considering a Mitsu when I stumbled across & bought a Sammy DLP instead. Very happy with the set.

    Samsung?

Lamp life on Samsung DLPs is rated by mfg at 6000 hours for 61" (120watt bulb), and 8000 hours all others (100watt bulb). My reseach has indicated that some may have experienced failures sooner. You can find the number of hours on your lamp in the SM. Samsung covers the bulb through the...

    Samsung?

I've got the 50" (5065, same as 507, regardless what anyone might tell you or you may read into missing logos) and I can honestly say this set is the best and most money I've spent on a single piece of in home electronics. I agree, hot is the right description. I think word is finally getting...

Posting Again: Help me make my first RPTV set decision!

I started out looking at 60"+ CRT RPTV. I ended up with 50" DLP.

Samsung DLP, any reasons not to buy?

The set will convert 1080i to 720p. At first that may look dissapointing. There are a number of explanations as to why that isn't necessarily so. 1080i, by definition, is only refreshing half of the picture at a time. 720p is the entire frame.

How Childproof are the Samsung DLP Screens?

I've got the HLN5065W. I also have a 16 month old boy, and 2 girls 7 and 5. In the last 2 months, it has withstood a direct hit by a kicked soccer ball, and consistant hand slaps while my boy enjoys "the wiggles". I feel I'm pretty darn lucky regarding the soccer ball, the frame absorbed most of...

    dumb hdtv aspect question

For me, its all about the stretch modes. I find 4:3 on 16:9 is bearable if the set can do "panoramic" or some other named mode that fills the screen by stretching only the outer most areas of the picture. Size is potentially of interest. Remember 4:3 on a 50" 16:9 widescreen is 41" when...

Samsung DLP, any reasons not to buy?

I think it is important to state again that there currently is NO difference in the internals of the HLN sets. Newer firmware may have discrete codes, but to my knowledge, that is it! Yes, the 507 says DCDi on the outside, and 5065W does not, the 507 has a black frame around the screen, but that...

Where have all the DLP RPTV's gone?

The HLN has 3 sets of Component inputs. Component 1 is 480i/480p and is where I believe the FLI chip is active (I'm guessing). Component 2 and 3 are 480p/720p/1080i, and the "film" option was greyed out for me when demoing those inputs. Film is also greyed out (as "on") with the player in...

Where have all the DLP RPTV's gone?

I'm wondering if anyone has access to sales data on DLPs? When I bought my Samsung HLN a week ago, I ended up with the last in store, as the in the box units sold out b4 my eyes. The store manager told me he wished he had increased inventory while supply was available. I took it from that...

Samsung DLP - I finally decided, no thanks to accurate literature

The 50" is a nice size for me, actually at 10ft it feels a bit too close. I find the best distance about 12ft. . Last update, after time with AVIA (Ovation DVD from Bestbuy, not the full AVIA, but basics and some advanced): I switched to GAMMA 0, from default of 4 in service menu, this...

New Samsung DLP= Bad Pic Quality?

Do you know if Digital NR, Film, and DNIe were enabled for the sources you were viewing? That and an analog cable signal booster cleaned things up for me. . .tweaking the contrast, brightness and killing sharpness (DLP plenty sharp) also helped. I'm in my first week of a 30 day return policy and...

Samsung DLP - I finally decided, no thanks to accurate literature

I did get the codes. Over on avsforum, search samsung service tweaks. This set does have the FLI2300 chip according to the menu - so what if the advertisements don't say it. Regarding quality, changing gamma from 4 to 0 had an interesting effect, if not for the red push. (I also went and got a...

Samsung DLP - I finally decided, no thanks to accurate literature

I'm still playing, not having ventured into service menus yet, I have discovered one very important thing regarding quality. The DNR option (digital noise reduction) turned on makes a HUGE difference on all sources for me. The N series set has independent memory for features based on input...

Samsung DLP - I finally decided, no thanks to accurate literature

After much debate, and a lot of research, I've ended up with the Samsung HLN5065W. I picked it up yesterday. I decided I wanted DLP or LCD Projection for a number of reasons. With my viewing distance of 10-14ft the 50 inch set is plenty big for me, and talk about vibrant! I looked at both the...

Bought bigger house, need bigger TV

Hmm. I Hadn't really thought front projection as an option, now you've got me thinking. I occasionally use projectors at work (I'm a computer systems manager by trade), so I know how truly stunning they can be on BIG screens. I'm afraid of the cost of replacement lamps though, and I think it may...

Wow. Thank you for the great replies! I only asked about 50 questions inside the four. I appreciate those of you who made it through the post! If I may add a follow on, one of the things I'm most curious about is the new rear projection technologies, like LCD found in the newer sony grand...

Bought bigger house, need bigger TV

My 27in Sanyo just isn't enough any more. I know now how very little I know about screens, having started reading HTF. Wow, what a wealth of information! I want something respectable out of my first foray into the larger sets. My budget is at most $3K, and I want it to last 8-10 years. 1. How...
