Thats sounds about like what I'm beginning to suspect Allan. Sadly I don't have the AVIA disk yet, one of those things I've "been meaning to order" for too long. But at the moment I think I'll hold off on speculation until I can take my player (which I've used in progressive scan on another...
I may just be having monday dellusions, but I think I've read before that some TV's actually handle an interlaced image better due to their own internal electronics better than the progressive signal of a mediocre DVD player. Is this a possible cause for what I'm seeing?
I tried a few HT Test/Calibration DVD's, Episode I, and The Aviator. I may take my player over this weekend and test, but it seems to be a constant thing between dvd's on his.
Hey gang. My friend just bought a new 27" HD TV, a progressive scan DVD player, and some nice component cables for a nice price of about $350 total. I have a fair bit of home theater experience so I helped him hook it up. Here's the situation: When watching a DVD in interlaced mode the...
My votes go to: The Complex Rock Tour by the Blue Man Group and Rammstein: Live Aus Berlin both are great mixes with great music and incredible stage shows, saw The Complex live and must say I nearly cried with joy when it made it to DVD...sooo much better than trying to describe it...
Oh man, that was a good flick. Visually incredibly, great acting, and innovative violence that keeps "mundane" gun and knife combat thrilling. More films could use this kind of life!
From the ceiling? Certinally. Many smaller satellite speakers are easily mounted near or on the ceiling. Just look for appropriate brackets (preferably with a good amount of aiming potential) and then try to make sure the speakers you choose have appropriate surfaces to attach to the brackets...
Just another suggestion, if you like the whole "all in one package" deal. There are other options (much better sound and value) than bose. Polk Audio makes several nice semi-component systems, Yamaha has an excellent HTIB or two as well. I generally try to recommend building your own system...
My Yamaha is a few years older, so I'm not sure if the setting are called the same on the new models, but if I wanted to do what you are trying to do I would do the following: 1. Set Front/Center/Rear to Large 2. Set Bass Out to Mains (choices are Mains, Sub, and Both [Mains and Sub] That...
I'd vote for the Yamaha. I've had mine for a few years and it continues to impress my friends and myself. One day I'll move up to a bigger yammie or seperates but I'll always have my my RX-V496 in at least a bedroom or secondary system...can't bear the thought of not using it :-)
Those "might" work...I admit I'm not the most versed when it comes to DIY crossovers and such. Anything you attempt like that will be a trial and error operation so make sure you keep an eye on return policies...no sense in buying 5 crossovers that might not work...maybe try one first? Good luck...
Hmmm....Dan I'm fairly certain the problem isn't your Yamaha. I do have a question about how you have the speakers plugged in though... If I remember correctly those JVC's have at least two seperate speaker cables per speaker? I think they are bi or tri-amped by the JVC unit they come with. The...
I dunno, I was actually listening to the SpiderMan 2 soundtrack on the way to work today and (while the rock/folkish songs are pretty good too) I was actually very impressed with the two orchestral works. I remember them clearly from the theater and think they were pretty well tied into their...
I got my RT25i Polk's for around $140 open-boxed...just saying there's always a lot of different choices out there that are clearance, open-boxed, etc. that can net you some great pieces for very low prices.
Very possible. In fact you can get some very nice fronts for $300. Your options if you are buying new are a bit more limitied...I'd stay in the bookshelf range. However, if you are willing to go used you can actually find some excellent bookshelves or even smaller floorstanders for that price.
Chuck, the lack of stereo output jacks is fully corrected for $7-8. Go to RadioShack and get their 6ft Gold-Series PiggyBack RCA Cable (its quite nice quality). Now plug the end with the "piggyback" into the Front L/R. Run the attached output cables to your receivers CD-input. Then plug...
My new Sony CD-595 has excellent redbook playback for the price. I figured Sony would skimp on that area due to the low price, but was pleasantly surprised. I'll admit I'm not usually a Sony fan, but I'll recommend this player to almost anyone.
It compares quite well. Other than the excellent overall tonal balance and clarity (which the Sony also does a great job of), the main quality I loved about my Marantz was its detail in the lower frequencies. I have not found any reason to beleive the Sony is any less capable in this area, the...
Well, I picked one up earlier today and I must say...this unit does not sound/feel like a $140 unit...it performs WELL above its price. This is a well built and great sounding unit. The SACD sounds incredible and the redbook playback is WAY better than I anticipated for the price. A definite...
Hey gang, I recently noticed this player in BestBuy for $140 and have been trying to find more info on it, my vintage Marantz CD40 (no remote) is still sounding great, but isn't convinient and has no SACD capability..which I am quite interested in, and is not a changer like this Sony. Has...
Polk Audio RTiXX or RTXXi series. Towers (RT800i's or RTi70's) or larger bookeshelves (RT55i's or RTi38's). You should be able to find some good used/closeout deals on some of these as they are 1 to 2 series back.
I'll also reaffirm your interest in Polk. I love mine and am always hearing positive comments from visitors to my HT. They are great for Peformance, Cost, and Service. They are actually an enormous company (number 2 or 3 I "think" in volume sales in the US), but are great at keeping the...
Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, HK, Pioneer Elite, Marantz, Sony ES, etc are all great receivers. I've seen nothing but great performance come from them, I know I love my RX-V496. Pick what sounds good and you can afford, going on brand alone isn't usually a great strategy...but any from of the above...
I'll be honest with you, my friend bought the KLH 5.1 receiver from BB ($100) and it totally happy with it...yes its options are basic and it looks/feels cheap, but it does perform quite well. I'm not trading in my yammie for one, but for $100, its better than it should be.
