I think all forum posts should be limited to speakers that people bought but DIDN'T like. Most people who buy almost all of the better branded speakers discussed here are happy with their decision. Oh yeah, and my Axioms are better than your Rockets :) Frank
John, M22s are considered very similar to the M60s and share the same tweeter. The M40tis don't seem to be that popular over at the Axiom forums. Probably since most people either step up to the M60s or like the M22 for for the smaller size. I've got the M22/VP150/QS4 combo and love it. My...
You guys are missing the point of tricking the wife. Buy bigger furniture! It makes the sub look small. Bigger TV, bigger couch. You get the drift. Frank
Jim, I'd go (actually I did go) with the QS4 surrounds and the VP150 center if you can swing them. The M2is would make good rears. Also if you go to the Factory Outlet at the Axiom site, you'll save %10. Email amie@axiomaudio and ask if they have what you want in the factory outlet. Some times...
Michael, I have the M22, VP150, and QS4s that are all from the Axiom factory "blem" outlet. The only blemish I have found on any of them is a very small scratch on the BOTTOM of the VP150 center channel. It is so thin, I thought it was a piece of hair. About 1 1/2 inches long and again, on the...
Michael, Where are you located? You can always find people on this and other forums (like the 10 others Curtis hangs out at :) ) that will let you audition some of the speakers you're looking into. Axiom and the Rocket guys both have forums where you can find people in your neck of the woods to...
Since nobody is backing you on your first choice, I will. The M22s are great. I would try and step up to the VP150 center. Keep in mind you can get cheaper speakers at the Axiom Outlet on their website. That's where I got all my stuff and I can't see any sort of blemish on any of them. I've...
Ditto what gus said on the 525Z. But no visual (or audio) problems whatsoever. They do seem to have upped their prices on all HK refurbs a bit. Got my 525 for $499 + shipping. I think it's $549 now. Frank
I found a deadbolt on the door to my HT room works just as well! That and sound proofing = High HAF (husband acceptance factor). Actually when we were shopping for houses, we agreed I get the basement and garage and she gets the rest of the house. Works for me. :) Frank
Jay, After my initial attempts at priming/painting my Shiva tube I said screw it and bought 3m adhesive spray and black box carpet from PE. Pretty easy to cut and easy to glue on and have looking nice. You could always use a different color carpet too and it's less messy than painting. The wax...
Unless your tube legs and endcaps are over 8 inches in height, you can always take the tube inside side ways. It's 30 diameter and only 22 inches high. Worst case you put the legs on once it's inside the room. You just can't take it OUT of the room ;)
Frank
I can't hear the fan at all in my 525. The 525 has all the needed modes for HT along with flexible bass management. What more do you need in terms of bells and whistles? I probably don't use 3/4 of the features of the 525 but it's does a great job with movies and music. I initially...
Bolivar, Sounddomain.com has pretty good prices and great service on everything. That box should do the trick. Just get a good amp to run them and you'll be happy with either the IDQs or JLs. There are usually great deals on the Sounddomain Cool Classifieds for subs and a good two channel or 4...
Chances are since they state "160 watts total power" they are talking Peak power and not RMS. That would not leave you with sufficient power to properly power a decent DIY sub. It might be worth saving to build a sub and get a decent, cheap plate amp. Check out the For Sale forum here...
Larry, If it's an all in one, chances are the amp is probably smaller so you might not be able to run a sub off of it. The specs would help and people here could tell you if you had enough power to run the sub. Frank
1)Build sub. 2)Run off of existing sub out. 3)Save 4)Buy new receiver. 5)Use old receiver to power sub. 6)Make center Then decide whether you want to replace the sub amp or other speakers based on finances. Frank
Shiva, PE 250, 4 inch flared port (full length) here. 20 inch diameter sonotube, 24 inches tall. I built a small box to house the amp. Covered the tube with black speaker box carpet from PE. Painted the endcaps hammered black. Email me at [email protected] and I can mail you pics or...
At first I thought the humming was the amp itself until I physically reach under the tube and touched the downfiring Shiva and felt it resonating. I'm starting to think bad amp now. Frank
Colin, Thanks for the info. The thing is, mine stays green even when I switch my receiver off. This is with the switch on standby. Maybe my amp is defective? Should it go right to red when the receiver/source is turned off? Thanks, Frank
I looked at the specs page for that Polk system. The problem I see with using it with your current setup as a sub is the type of input it uses. Is there RCA input or just the DB-25 input? You would need a way to attach your receiver or amp to the sub. Frank
I just finished my ported Shiva sonosube and I'm powering it with a PE 250 plate amp. I noticed something that may or may not be a problem with the amp. When I turn my receiver off and the amp isn't receiving a signal, I'm getting a slight hum from the sub. When I reach under and touch the...
I'm ready to mount the Shiva in my newly finished 120L sonotube after work today. Should have listening impressions by the weekend. Full length flared 4 inch port from PE and the 250 plate amp. Frank
Chris, I found that article possibly in this forum. No credit, I'm just passing on some in depth info. My neighbor just bought a Bose setup. Unfortunately it was before I had seen that article and he never came to me for advice. Bose is such a marketing machine that it's no wonder they sell...
