I doubt the European R2 versions will be unrated as I think all the countries have to have DVD releases rated. You'll probably have to look to Japan (R2) or Hong Kong (R3?) for a unrated version.
The Gollum acceptance speech would probably have upgraded the rating as well because he goes on a swearing rant in it ("Dobby's a f****** f**!!"). You can find it for download all over the place if you Google it so it's no great loss - I really recommend taking a look at it though.
Do the people who come up with these ideas actually learn from previous experience? Why would I want to buy a disc that I can only watch a couple of times before it's rendered useless? It's a much better deal to do a conventional rental not to mention far less wasteful.
There's no problem with pre-viewed DVDs as long as you get the original packaging, a guarantee, and can check the disc before you buy. I tend to avoid them because here our rental DVDs are bare bones to encourage you to buy, but you still get the odd bargain.
