My copy of QuAUDIOPHILIAc arrived today from CD Universe. I'm on my 3rd listen now and I'm digging it. If your a Zappa fan or a curious DVD-A fan, then this is a release for you. Hardcore Zappa fans will love Rollo and Chunga Basement. Waka/Jawaka sounds awesome in 5.1. Venusian Time Bandits is...
PLEASE check out the Mike Keneally Band!!! Their new CD, Dog, is just amazing. I almost decided to make the 10 hour trip just to see them live again. However, my work schedule didn't agree with my plan. :frowning: If you haven't ordered Dog, go to keneally.com and get the Special Edition...
I received my 'hot off the presses' Mike Keneally Band-Dog CD/DVD this Thursday and I've listened to nothing else since then. As a long-time Mike Keneally fan, I can say this is an astounding CD. Creative and dense music played by some of the best musicians I've ever heard. The DVD is...
I've also recently gotten back into vinyl. After getting sick and tired of the flat sound of my CD's, I drug out my old Dual, put a new cart/stylus on it, and WOW! I can't believe I went so long without listening to my records. Even with a few pops here and there, the sound of vinyl is a breath...
Felix, thanks for the DZ info. I'd love to hear some new releases of Frank's quad mixes. Hey, I look forward to any new FZ releases. I'm loving Baby Snakes.
I'm almost in the same boat. I bought a DVD-A player souly because I'm a huge Frank Zappa freak and had to hear Halloween in all it's glory. I then bought a few other DVD-A's and have been disappointed in some way with everything else I've bought. DVD-A just doesn't have a catalog for any of the...
If you go to zappa.com and read the 'Decoding'thingy of Baby Snakes, you will see the tedious process that the soundtrack went through to make it into existance. After reading that, I'm not going to complain and just enjoy having it on DVD.
Yeah, I've got my fingers crossed for the Roxy show. Beware that the Does Humor Belong In Music DVD is NOT an official Zappa Family Trust release. It's from EMI and the the ZFT is not happy, nor is it endorsing the release. Meaning, it didn't get the special care that BS's did. Also, I'm a...
Anyone else here have the freshly released Baby Snakes DVD yet? I got mine yesterday from CD Universe. Looks and sounds great. I personally think the stereo mix is a little better than the 5.1. Regardless, it's Zappa and it's good. Cool packaging too. Some Zappa No-D glasses and a 'case file.'...
How many times are they gonna re-package and re-issue the same old recordings we've bought and bought again? I have the orginal vinyl, the first batch of CD's, the box set, and I'm sorry but I'm not buying this same stuff again. The L.A Woman DVD-A was just short of being a complete...
Bassboy Bryan Beller's solo debut- View! An amazing listening experience. If interested in some really good and orginal sounding music played by really good and orginal sound musicians, check out bryanbeller.com for some MP3 samples. My words don't do this music justice. Check out Bryan's...
It's a good solid song, but it doesn't do much for me as Dream Theater track. It doesn't have that 'DT' vibe to it. Maybe it's because it's the radio edit. I don't know. I'm a DT fan, but they kind of lost me a bit with the last CD. Even before that, Scenes didn't really speak to me either. I...
Did Joe Travers say whether or not the Roxy show is even being considered for a future release? I'm hoping for it, but I've heard rumblings that it's not gonna happen. 'They make the best kind of pets.' T
Well, after much speculation it seems the Baby Snakes DVD will finally come out Nov 18th. Nothing official on the Zappa site yet, but Amazon is taking pre-orders. So for you Zappa fans, here you go. Trina
Well, I'll let my ears be the judge. The review didn't make much sense to me. He went on and on and on about a lot of stuff except the DVD-A. He had very little to say in regards to reviewing the DVD-A compared to the CD version. And what's this about having problems getting it in the player? T
Jane's Addiction-Strays Brad Paisley- Mud On the Tires I'm not much of a country music fan, but Brad Paisley is the exception for me. I've tapped my toes to this disc for 3 days now.
I think it's great that a band that hasn't been active since 1980 can release something in 2003 and kick the butt of todays popular 'acts.' Especially with 30 year old recordings. I LOVE it. T
I LOVE Spocks Beard. I know the new CD has just been recorded and is supposed to be out soon. I think most of the songwriting/singing will be done by the super talented Nick D Virgilio. I guess it'll be best not to expect the new Beard to sound like the old one, and give the new stuff a fair...
I'm looking forward to hearing the 9 minute Genius In France, which is a tribute to Frank Zappa. Dweezil Zappa plays guitar on it. Being that Dweezil is one of my favorite guitar players, I guess I'm gonna have to finally buy a Weird Al CD.
I didn't buy much this week, but extremely enjoyable additions to my collection. DVD Albert Lee's Country Legend CD Danny Gatton- 88 Elmira St. Hoping for the new Fleetwood Mac DVD-A Tuesday.
Well I'll have to throw Tony Williams in the mix here. He played some sweet grooves with Miles Davis. A fine songwriter on his own accord too. I'd love to hear Spring released in SACD. One of my favorite jazz CD's. T
