    Power conditioners and amps

Michael by noise I didn't mean dc. I know there is no possibility of DC on the output of a transformer. If you apply DC to the primary of a transformer, what happens is that it wastes capacity of the transformer as it only serves to heat up the primary winding. You can see if the power transfer...

    Power conditioners and amps

An Isolation transformer worked for me Chu. Self balancing servo??, not in my mid fi amp, how exactly does that circuit look? I must be getting too geeky as I actually found your hum joke hillarious best regards.

    Power conditioners and amps

crudely put indeed, I’m not an EE. except for the few wall warts I tore into. my only exposure to this stuff is theoretical and anecdotal. my.$.02 But Chu i believe You're not completely correct about the use of wallwarts. The reasons you give might be valid but overly simplify. Manufacturers...

    Power conditioners and amps

I agree Chu If you've identified your AC as the cause of noise in your system then your suggestion about the sub panel and isolation transformer is good solution. In fact its the cheapest (isolation transformers are a penny per watt rating on the used market) and most effective solution I know...

    Another receiver vs separates questions.

How 'bout a mass market receiver combined with a qualilty stereo pre-amp with an HT pass through. I have a Denon 3802 which I use to power surrround back speakers and as pre/pro for center and side surrounds. A Parasaound P/LD 1100 line drive stereo pre-amp which has no HT pass through but I did...

Paradigm Studio 40(v3). Crossover at 60 or 80

Like BrianWoerndle I use 20's and cc version 2 for the front/center, but I cross at 50hz. the lower you cross at the more muscle (amp power) you need. If your using a receiver to power the 40's then I reccomend 80hz also.

Which of these cables is better for digital coax?

If we were net video conferencing I would be able to guess which computer and definitely which connection you're using. My point being that the equimpent can make a difference. As per connection; the copper clad RG6 the CATV company uses with Canare 75 ohm type RCA connectors will more than...

    iTunes and playing CD's

For what you want you either have to go the laptop route with a usb-audio to PCM converter (xitel pro hifi link) or the wireless router and music server route (SLIMP3 Network Music Player) FYI, USB 1.1 doesn't have enough bandwith to handle multichannel audio but USB 2.0 does.

How's the audio section on the Denon DVD-2200?

Truly I couldn't tell ya' cause 80hz is too high a crossover frequency for my music listening tastes So I set my fronts on the 2200 to large.

How's the audio section on the Denon DVD-2200?

I also recently picked up a 2200 and the sound with SACD's is very smooth. But in comparison to my CD player which is connected to my receiver via digital coax the 2200 w/SACD is lacking slightly in the dynamics department. It may have been the recording. I've watched a few DVD's and The video...

If tweeters are slightly below ear level will audio suffer?

From my personal experience the answer is a resounding YES!!!!!. In general, a direct radiator's on axis response is always better than its off axis response. Try 2x4's from Home Depot appropriately, cut, jointed, stained and footed with some self adhesive felt pads as a new base for your stands.

Do you listen to music in stereo mode or extended stereo mode.

For critical listening where volume is not an issue I use stereo. But having book shelf speakers all round I get higher spl's with 7 channel stereo which is necessary sometimes. If you have huge floor standers for fronts and serioius amps that can fill your room with authority I don't see the...

Help with Isolated Ground Dedicated 20Amp Circuits.

Jeff, if you're looking for ideas on shielded twisted pair geometries, oversized conductors and 20amp isolated ground hospital grade outlets (the oranage kind) on dedicated circuits you'll find more sypmathetic ears among the inmates at the audio asylum. We're a little more down to earth around...

    Denon 3802 Help

Since you hooked up your speakers I trust you know that only the surround channels can be AB'd and you won't hear anything out of them unless you're in a multichannel mode. The "speaker" button on the remote will toggle between A+B, A, or B. overriding the settings you made during setup.

    240v-120v Transformer Recommendation Wanted

I know of the Richard Gray Substation http://www.richardgrayspowercompany....cts/index.html and Elect-Spec Kleen Line http://www.elect-spec.com/isotran.htm. I can't testify to how loud they hum but thats more a function of how balanced your house ac mains are.

    Advice on speakers, please

Try the Paradigm Focus and cc 170, Here is a review: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...-12-2002.html. I use a pair of adp 170's for movie surround duty and they sound great and are solidly built. felt I got my money's worth.

    Recommendations for 30-50ft component cables

Tongue in cheek post Chad. But if you're going to spend $11,500 on an Ayre Acoustics D-1x DVD Player then why not. For the rest of us CATV coax would do.

    Recommendations for 30-50ft component cables

How 'bout www.zaolla.com. $666 at www.macmidimusic.com for a 50ft run of these solid core silver, heavily shielded component cables. I could never aford these and the specs are overkill for their intended use but it would make a good converstation piece at your next dinner party :)

    Denon DVD-2200

I just bought one of these. My previous DVD was a Philips Q50. I have a 32' 4:3 progressive scan display with single progressive scan/hdtv input so a side by side comparison was not possible. FWIW, the 2200 appers to render details more noticeable than the Q50. For example on the opening...

    Power Coditioner Question

My apologies Chu, You appear to be right about the DPS series. I assumed the engineering specs on the hybrid versions were indicative of all their designs especially since Transector is not very detailed on how they achieved the higher voltage and joule ratings for their diodes. Transector's...

    Power Coditioner Question

Transector is a hybridized MOV/SASD, check the specs. According to www.elect-spec.com the single advantage of suppressor diodes over other solutions is speed. But they cannot handle high voltages. Hence there use in mostly low voltage high speed telecom apps. And you’ll never see a high voltage...

My big questions about DTS and DVD-A

Great link David, Thanks for the explanation. I'll try one of those DTS 96/24 DVD's. Curious to hear what all the fuss is about before I invest in an MLP player like the Denon 2900. Thanks.

My big questions about DTS and DVD-A

David, I was referring to the following from DTS's website: I have a philips q50 which claims to have 96/24 DAC's and DTS decoding. Just wanted to know if I bought any DVD-Audo disk could my q50 decode the DTS 96/24 track at full resolution instead of down converting to 48khz - thanks.

    Looking for decent line conditioner

The electro motive force of the dc current is not "stored" as it is transferred to the magnetic field of the inductor. Its a dynamic conversion process directly proportional to the applied voltage but limited by the steady state of the magnetic field. Its similar to you sliding a heavy box up a...

    Looking for decent line conditioner

Kevin C. Brown. You are completely wrong. You do not understand the basic concept of inductance or induction. else you would know the Monster voltage stabilizer and the BPT unit are built around the same transformer technology. A primer on the basics of electricity are a google search away...
