A small tribute to Wiggins, et.al.

Dave Yep, 16^3 ft. I was originally using a couple of 200w audiophile monoblocs (for the reason you state about amplifier quality) to drive the Tumults and being light on power went for a large cabinet to bring up the output. From the testing I've done I found that although an LT can...

A small tribute to Wiggins, et.al.

Dave I would be interested in more details on your enclosure size. I have a couple of Tumults in a 16^3 ft cabinet driven by a K2 via a Marchand Bassis LT. For better integration with my main speakers I'm thinking of moving the Tumults to two small sonotubes located just behind the mains and...

    How good is the av12?

Dan (and others) Thanks for your opinions, based on the review in StereoTimes and the good press on this forum I was tempted by the Crown K2, however I will look into the QSC range as suggested.

    How good is the av12?

Dan I'm looking for something to power a pair of Tumults, in your opinion, which of the 'pro' amps have the best sound quality?

    Tumult response with LT

Brian Thanks for the advice. Small boxes is certainly what I was looking for, although my main interest was sound quality. I was wondering if the Tumult offered an improvement in sound quality over the Tempest. At present I use Krell monoblocs on my main speakers and slightly lower quality...

    Tumult response with LT

Brian Thanks for your diagram. As an experienced speaker designer could you offer me some advice please? I'm debating swapping a pair of Tempests for Tumults so that I can use a smaller cabinet and locate them in the same plane as my main speakers. Currently my Tempests are in a 16^3...

    Tumult + LT Suggestions?

Thanks for the info Jack, that LT spread sheet is much easier to use that other versions I've seen. Just need to make my mind up on 1 Tumult or 2!

    Tumult + LT Suggestions?

Hi Jack Thanks for the reply. Came across a thread mentioning Unibox so I gave it a try. Looks like 56L (2^3ft) should give me a Q of .7, that seems like a really small box, if that's right and I haven't goofed, great! I'm finding that I prefer a higher Q rather than lower Q so is there any...

    Tumult + LT Suggestions?

I would appreciate some suggestions on a Tumult design using a Marchand Electronics BASSIS LT that would improve on my current sub. Priorities are sound quality, depth and slam. It would be used for both HT and music. Room size is small, 8ftx8ftx13ft, amplifier power is whatever is needed...

My sub project is huge... should I build a riser for my sofa instead?

Brae, Don't have the capability to do an RTA plot I'm afraid. The drivers are mounted in the front face of the riser firing towards the screen. As you look at the riser from the screen the two Tempest drivers are mounted on the left half of the riser, the right half is empty at the moment...

My sub project is huge... should I build a riser for my sofa instead?

Brae I sold them for around £400 each (not including the x30 controllers), although one buyer pulled out when he actually saw the size of it. Strange, it's quite a bit smaller than my riser sub.:D

My sub project is huge... should I build a riser for my sofa instead?

I have a sofa sitting on a riser fitted with a pair of Tempest drivers. The size of the riser is approximately 7'x4'x1.25', roughly 900 litres. It is split into two sealed chambers. As you sit on the sofa the twin tempests are in the right hand half of the riser, I haven't finished the left hand...
