I've suggested this in a couple of threads, but I am in no way affiliated to Yamaha :) Wait a few days/weeks for the Yamaha 1400 - It should fit your budget, and gives a lot of features for the money, including automatic speaker tuning (w/equalization)
I would wait for the Yamaha 1400 - It would be in your pricerange, and do automatic adjustment of your speakers, including parametric equalization. (using a microphone, so it is fully automatic.) It should be out in a few days/couple of weeks.
Localization could be an issue, especially if you are using it for movies. It is typically recommended to have speakers mounted ear level, pointing straight forward (vertically, horizontally, some people prefer toed in) Back speakers SHOULD be mounted higher (1-2 feet higher than ear level...
Don, thanks for the heads-up - that was what I feared. Buying it another place is out of the question, I'm afraid, since I have a budget of 500, and that was the only place I could find it for this price. I had to fight long and hard to get a budget of 500 for this, from my wife.. I will wait...
Thanks for the tip Niraj, I just ordered it from ecost as well! Doubt I'll get it though, since they don't have it in the warehouse, and I doubt pioneer is shipping out any more of them - but I am keeping my fingers crossed. :frowning: PS question; I tried to sign up for a year of extra...
I'm definitely not an expert on the subject, but as long as you get speakers that go down to about 80hz, without losing to much db, and let the sub handle sounds below that - it seems few people think that it is a problem having a single sub.
Tim, if you can stretch the budget a little, you can go with the Ascend 340's for left, right, center - since these go deeper than the 170's. (of course, then you might get tempted to switch the htm200's with 170s in the back, and it gets expensive :)
Agreed, Lewis. As someone else said, ideally, get the same speakers for all channels (or at least the same tweeter, and fairly similarly sized woofers)
To somewhat reduce the problem, you could also spring for a receiver that does equalization between the channels. Examples, Pioneer 45tx and up, 53tx and up - New Yamaha receivers will also do this, models 1400 and 2400 something. It certainly won't be perfect, but it will to some degree...
mute point if you ask me. the speakers are sold dirt cheap through fluance, while the white van guys try to trick you into paying ridiculous amounts. I think the speakers are ok, far be it high-end or anything, but for the price fluance charges, they are a good value. White van guys are not...
I have not heard these speakers, but they remind me of some speakers I owned years ago, back in Europe, called Avance - concerning looks and build quality. The Avance speakers were pretty good, and it sounds like most people really like the Fluance's as well. The build quality should be...
