    HDTV or Front Projector

You may want to look at the BenQ 6100 and 6200, and there are a number of LCD choices (Sanyo Z1, Panny 300) that you may be able to find in this range.

    NEC HT1100 Anamophic or Not

TV Authority is one of the places I've seen it. I also heard about a $150 rebate through April. Don't know if the TVA price includes the rebate. You can also try looking at AVS Forum. Some of the AVS resellers have reasonable prices. I've also seen good "Buy it Now" prices on EBay, but have...

    NEC HT1100 Anamophic or Not

My understanding is that you would set your HD STB or DVD to 16:9, and your set the NEC to Anamorphic. I believe the NEC/anamorphic has a constant width, which means the lens compresses vertically. So the NEC would be acting like a 16-9, but since the DMD is 4:3, the image would be...

*** Official THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING Discussion Thread

I feel bad, I've only seen it 4 times in the theater. But there is one image I always see in my mind that I've not seen mentioned. So I'll just have to mention it. Did anyone else notice (or does anyone else think that) in Mt. Doom, when Frodo claims the ring as his own, his facial expression...

*** Official THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING Discussion Thread

David and Joe, Quite correct, my bad. My edition does indeed say "the enchanting prelude to The Lord of The Rings" For some reason, that is what I thought I was reading and saying (Prelude). BTW, this is the Ballantine softcover edition, I believe (from the copyright and printing history)...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Interesting conversation. My feeling is that, given the actual situation today, there has to be some greater tie-in to LOTR in The Hobbit movie than in the book. As has been mentioned, the book was written before the LOTR. And even after LOTR was written, most readers of The Hobbit had not...

*** Official THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING Discussion Thread

Not that I bestow any greater knowledge to publishers or anything, but my copy of The Hobbit says (on the front cover), "The enchanting prelude to The Lord of The Rings"

*** Official 2003 Academy Awards Discussion Thread

I have to say that I never thought the writing was the strong point of the LOTR movie(s). But I realized that to go three years and never win for adapting that particular book would have been a little unfair. As Christopher Tolkein said, it is not a work suited to the visual medium (or something...

HDTV Help (OTA decoder and X1 projector)

Are any of your analog channels UHF? are anhy of the new digital channels in your area VHF? It is possible that your old antenna is VHF and your new digital channels are UHF. If that is the case, you'll probably have to buy a new antenna. I also use the RS Double Bow Tie. That and the Silver...

Any opinions on Philips direct view TVs?

I have a PixelPlus set and find it to have a really good picture on NTSC signals. HDTV looks great too. I like PixelPlus so much, I almost never watch DVDs in progressive. I usually just use PixelPlus and think it looks great.

    InFocus ScreenPlay 7200 hangs up

Interesting. I had the EXACT same problem with my first Philips 34PW9818 direct-view set. They never figured it out and finally replaced the set. I never heard of anyone else with that problem, especially an FP. Good luck with this. Greg

*** Flat Screen Tubes VS. Newer Conventional Tubes ***

Not to "push" an HDTV on you, but electronicsnation.com sells refurb Philips with full warranty. They have 2 32" models. One for $650, but unfortunately no stock on that. You may want to drop them a quick email to confirm they don't have it (and if they do, see if you can find one to look at to...

    Pixel Plus problem...?

I've not seen that problem either on my 9818. Claire, how did the calibration go?

    Phillips CRT HDTV's any good?

I love my 34PW9818. NTSC looks really good. 1080i is stunning. There are a couple of quirks (no screen formatting on 480p/1080i inputs), but overall I'm extremely pleased.
