    I second the Energy Take 5 option. I myself went for the Encore, which pretty much is in the price range as you are looking for. Very smooth sound, with good high-end clarity. The finish (and apparent robustness) of the speakers, in maple and silver, also goes a long way in pleasing the wife:)

    Panny RP-82 is no more

    Jack, I had called Crutchfield a couple of weeks back on this, and got the expected answer that that was a print mistake (with the "New" blurb and all!). They suggested the Denon 1600 instead. RP 82's been out of stock a while back now.

    Correct me if i am wrong.. The RP 82 originally shipped with the Faroudja DCDi chip, right? If it did, apparently, Panasonic ran out of the contract and the later built ones were'nt shipped with that proprietary chip.
