I will be hearing a F112 this weekend. As far as better performance, you must be talking about output, because from I have been reading about the Fathoms, the sound quality, along with output, is what sets it apart. That said, SethH is right....a square room makes things real tough.
Hey...put me on the spot why don't you? :) For sound quality, I would go with an Ascend setup made up of CBM-170SE's and a Hsu sub. That said, the X-LS is a nice speaker and a great value as well. I have not heard the X-sub though.
Wish I could tell you. We were very lucky. The four of us got along very well and similar tastes in music. My local A/V shop loaned me the Ushers and KEFs, as well as the NAD integrated. The 170SEs were my own, and the HTDs I had on trial. The other guys eached owned X-LS's, and two of them...
I heard it at CES...and it sounds very good. With the brief listen I had, I liked it. In the very least, competitive in the $2000/pr market. Would like to compare it with others in the same market space.
For what its worth at this point, I just concluded a 30 day trial of the HTD Level 3 bookshelf speaker. Some obvious holes in the FR and the tweeter is not very clean at all. I could not listen to the speaker very long, the sound really bothered me. Not necessaritly hurt my ears...just sounded...
Manufacturer amps specifications are not created equal. That said, Ascends are not difficult speakers to drive and do not have difficult impedance swings, so any decent receiver will work well with them.
John, I think you are letting the old VTF-2 you had influence your thoughts on the VTF-3MK2. :D I truly do not doubt your impressions, but you just can't compare subs in different environments. Even in the same room, moving a sub less than a foot can change the room response. Illka's tests...
Understood...but how can you compare that way? Were volume levels and calibrations identical? In-room FR's? Placement? So many variables when things are not done side by side and without equal calibration. Illka's testing was outdoors and objective.
Illka's testing says otherwise. The VTF-3MK2 is at least on par with with the single driver Pluses: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/subwoofer-tests/ With the testing that craigsub has done with the HO/turbo combo and it beating out the Plus/2 in the deep bass, I would think the...
Not on their website yet, and there is a waiting list/backorder, but Craig Chase has been doing some comparisons and there is a thread on AVS: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=736829
Ron, I have not heard the SBS-01's yet, but have spoken to folks whose opinion I trust, and it sounds like you guys have done a great job with these. I know we have have been at odds in the past....but I wanted to pass along some praise. KUDOS!
There have been a few people on AVS that have compared Ascend CBM-170's and SBS-01. All preferred the 170's. The SBS-01 is more comparable to the HTM-200.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=647862 I would love to hear the SBS-01's, if anybody in the Los Angeles area has a pair...
hey John, The pics of the 170's on Ascends site are of new version. http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages...70/cbm170.html The looks are not different.....drivers are different, and the only way you can tell is if the grille is off. The 340SE's port size is a little different. Also, there...
Here is the entire thread instead of just excerpts: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=626888 As for comparing in different rooms...remember, this was at a hotel, both companies had similar suites and similar rooms. Now for electronics, Hsu tries to prove a point and uses VERY...
I wish I could help you out now, but I can't make an offer until I know what my money situation looks like in January. For anybodyelse reading....the ADA amp is high quality stuff. You almost never see them on the used market.
