Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

I picked it up today at BestBuy for their sale price. No German dolphin trainer bit :frowning: Kind of bummed me out when the part came and went with that scene not in there. Oh well. Video looks great (upscaling to 720p) and the audio is clean and clear. I was also surprised to see DTS in the...

Wide bookshelves for $250 and sub for $100

For the bookshelfs how about some JBL E50's? They can be had for under $250, but it looks like a lot of places don't have stock anymore (including the authorized online sellers).

    Speaker Grills On or Off

All three speakers up front in my setup have the grills off. I keep the grills on the two rear speakers.

how to test a speaker without actually hooking it to a receiver?

I don't believe there's any tester for a finished speaker (including the crossover). Parts Express sells a woofer tester, but it's designed to test the bare speaker by itself.

In an HT system, you don't HAVE to use a center channel *or* a subwoofer

I don't think that's what's being implied. It's just that you're squeezing in even more sound information to those speakers that wasn't meant to be heard from them in a 5.1 soundtrack.

In an HT system, you don't HAVE to use a center channel *or* a subwoofer

Like a few others have said, I want to experience a soundtrack the way it was intended to be experienced. For 5.1 I'll use a center and a sub as well even if some people feel that two speakers up front can equal the job of four (center, left, right, sub). Why would I phantom the center when my...

Looking for a 15" subwoofer speaker

One that immediately pops into mind is the Dayton Titanic MKIII sub driver. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...number=295-420 I'm sure some other people will chime in with some reccomendations.

I have the E30's. They sound great and you'll definately enjoy them! The top posts are fine.

    JBL S vs. N vs. E

AFAIK the only "significant" difference between the S series and the other two is that the S series all have pure titanium dome tweeters, while the others are titanium-laminate.

    Dayton 12 inch?? ON SALE

Either they just changed the advertised response of the redesigned 10" or it actually does only have useable output to 30Hz. In any case it's likely done to show a larger difference in the performance between the 10" and 12" than before the revisions. Otherwise why would your average joe buy the...

War of the Worlds damaged my SVS!

Sure there's plenty. However, it's not anywhere near the majority of the bass. I'm really not trying to compare my "lowend" sub to SVS subs. It's just that I see more people damaging their highend subs than I do people with lower-end subs. I guess the performance gets to their head a little...

War of the Worlds damaged my SVS!

Actually the Dayton has useable output to 25Hz. Going by the waterfall charts in the other thread it covers the majority of the bass on the soundtrack (and the biggest hits seem to be right at 30Hz). There were numerous areas in the track when it was difficult to hear the bass but I could easily...

War of the Worlds damaged my SVS!

Man, I feel sorry for people with highend subs that wind up damaging them during punishing movies/music/etc. I have the relatively "lowly" Dayton Tiny Mighty II and it handled War of the Worlds gloriously (yes, the DTS track). Quite impressive actually. I'm running the bass slightly hot too...

    JBL E30 Vs. Athena AS-B1

IMHO it's worth it to save up a bit and go with two pairs of E30's and up the center to the EC35. Or you could stick with the E20's and go for an EC35 instead (I'd definately go for the EC35 over the 25). I've got two E30's in the front and an EC35. It's quite nice :emoji_thumbsup:

JBL E30s for Fronts and EC35 for Center?

This is the same setup I have (two JBL E30's for front L/R and a JBL EC35 center). It's very nice. Before the E30's I was still running a pair of N24II's. They're good speakers, but can't quite keep up with the EC35 (I also wanted more presence overall). The E30's match up perfectly with the...

    Newbie Looking for Audioholic recommendations

The reason you may be liking the Bose system better is because their setups in the store are designed specifically to sound their absolute best in that particular setting (and their best is typically well below even "budget" speakers). Don't be fooled by the smoke and mirrors. Spend your money...

They've got a 12" version of the Dayton sub now? Man, how much better is it than the 10" so many of us have?

JBL E80 or E90 - Is this it?

I do as well, although cost does factor into it somewhat ;) Originally I had purchased the JBL NSP1II speaker set. I have since upgraded the center to the EC35 (awesome center) and then the front L/R's to the E30's (which I had just got last week from B&H). Pretty sweet soundstage for both...

Beneficial to cut off the ends and restrip both ends of speaker wire every so often??

These are banana plugs: They are attached to the end of your speaker cables. Your speakers/receiver will have to have binding posts to be able to use these.

    What Speakers Do You Own?

Just ordered a JBL EC35 center to replace my N-CenterII. I'm also going to replace my four N24II's as budget permits. I won't be replacing my sub though (Dayton Tiny Mighty II :D ). Speakers are powered by a Pioneer VSX-D912K.

Don't like direct-rad surrounds. Why do you?

I like to hear whatever I'm playing coming out of the speaker(s) it was intended to come out of. If the sound was intended to pan from the front right to the rear left I want to hear that sound pan from the front right to the rear left, not from the front right to 'somewhere behind me'. In my...

Are there good Headphones I can buy at . . .Best Buy . .

Best Buy sells a couple Sony models in the $100 range. I have the Sony MDR-V600's that were purchased there for $100 a number of years ago. They still shouldn't be that expensive. You can pay a good deal less if purchased online (or called in somewhere to buy a pair). They're pretty nice...

best 5.1 system for under $400

When the JBL NSP1II speaker package was still around that was by far the best budget speaker array. I've still got mine :) The E series are a nice replacement and are the new price/performance leaders. Coupled with my Dayton Tiny Mighty II 10" sub from Parts Express it's pretty sweet. Around...

    good, affordable subs?

I've got the Dayton too. Sweet sub that has no match in the $300 or less price range. 25Hz is a truthful rating (I measured my room's response as well). Go for it.. you won't be disappointed :) By the way, it does come with a cable (stereo RCA cable). I opted to use an Acoustic Research sub...
