Did you get your TV over the weekend? If so, are you pleased witht he performance? My main thing is how will regular cable look on it. In 'Full' or 'Zoom' mode.
I've got some questions about this TV. I'm hoping owners of this set or the 34 inch incarnation of it can help. My uses for the tv are as follows... 75 % of my viewing is of DirecTv... 4:3 programming (Cable news, old tv shows, etc). 25% of my viewing is widescreen or anamorphic...
This just so happens to be one of my favorite films ever and it's not on dvd. In fact, I think it only appeared on VHS just a few years ago, finally. And, to my knowledge, it was never on laserdisc. Is there any hint that this film will get a dvd release any time in the near future? Who owns...
20 bones for a bare DVD of a Ray film is pretty reasonable compared to a fully stacked Ozu film (see the upcoming TOKYO STORY dvd from Criterion, which I'm sure will be mesmerizing) that costs 30+ USD. I'm still buying at least PATHER PANCHALI -- I'm really excited about it. Maybe some...
Now, wait a second. I'm not going to deny that burned in subtitles and a sub-par (compared to modern standards) transfer is a disappointment. But quite a few Satyajit Ray films were partially restored and preserved in or around 1995 by the director James Ivory and producer Ishmail Merchant...
All, fyi... Visconti's THE LEOPARD is on Fox Movie Channel right now. There is also another showing time for 4 AM EST tommorow morning, as well. filmgoer
Yasujiro Ozu's TOKYO STORY coming in October from the Criterion Collection. They just posted this cover art...I think the release date is October 11th, to be exact. Just wanted to pass this along. Carrol
I didn't read this whole thread to see if this had been posted previously or not... http://www.cowboypictures.com/seven_sam/schedule.htm That's the schedule for the new print of SEVEN SAMURAI that's circulating the country. It will be in my city next weekend, couldn't be more stoked...
I was recently looking over the news of the just announced CASABLANCA 2-disc that's due on August 5th. It got me to wondering if there is a chance that a film like say BONNIE AND CLYDE would stand a chance of getting the 2-disc, slip case treatment from Warner Brothers? After all, all of the...
Here's a head's up to you guys, probably the most significant news for my dvd library since I don't know when. I wrote Jon Mulvaney, from the Criterion Collection, on Tuesday:
This is an FYI to anyone who has already sent out your UPC's for the SUNRISE DVD. I just recieved mine today in the mail. I think it would be safe to start looking for yours soon, as well. Carrol
Yes, I know, I'm as ecstatic as you are after learning of this. I found two listings for it for pre-order: http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_lis...540&format=DVD and http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=NYV005403 Yip, yip, yahoo! Carrol
Thanks for the info from sites like www.ambersons.com and www.welles.net It's appreciated! I guess we can surmise from all of this that no deluxe edition would be done. But what about a decent release by Warner Bros. as a single disc? After all, the VHS tape I own isn't bad and it's the only...
Frustration is setting in with me and MGM. I've waited and I've waited for the special edition of RAGING BULL since it was rumored nearly 3 years ago. Again there have been rumors of it coming in 2003. Just today the Digital Bits listed their update for MGM releases through May/June of this...
I'm absolutely ringing my hands waiting for my copy to show up in the mail. I sent my stubs and the rest of the required info off to Fox on January 15th. My check was cashed weeks ago, so that let's me know it's been processed. I wonder what the hold up is. Has anyone recieved his or hers...
Has anyone heard any rumblings about a possible release of Welles' THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS? It seemed like the momentum was built in for a release in 2002 (60th anniversary, Warner had just released CITIZEN KANE to great praise, etc). And then, nothing. My gosh folks, there are about 4...
Thought I would bump this to the top. I would really like to find out what film that still of Marilyn is from. Is it GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDS or SOME LIKE IT HOT? Thanks! Carrol
Has anyone heard any rumblings about a possible SE of Ford's THE SEARCHERS? It seems like it was brought up at a studio day (dvdfile.com) several years ago and of course, nothing surfaced. I figure since Warner Bros. has revisited so many of their early dvd's lately, and are seemingly...
To: Colin Jacobson How long have you had your DVD? Did you send off within a few days of the initial Fox Classics releases? I sent my info off around January 15th, I think. Still don't have it yet, but I'm a patient fella. Also, this is to anyone... at the risk of sounding greedy, which...
I have the magazine and I'm familiar with the poll. But, that still photo isn't from any of the top ten films (critics OR directors), at least, not as much as I can tell. I think it's Marilyn Monroe, perhaps SOME LIKE IT HOT? Sorry, still confused about that still. Carrol.
RE: Jules and Jim To the person that mentioned Jules and Jim in this thread; I wrote Jon Mulvaney (from the Criterion Collection) about 1 month ago and he said that it is in the works, and to expect it later in 2003. I would take that to mean late fall...October? I hope, that's the one...
FYI... I just noticed that my check to Fox cleared on the 7th. Good news, I guess they are making headway with getting the SUNRISE dvd's out. I have a question for those of you that are getting this dvd. Have any of you considered getting a second copy? Not to sell, of course, but to...
