Naturally, I would agree with Curtis and say listen to both though, if you can. But get your order for the CBM 170's in quick. They told me if I ordered it Tuesday of last week, that they wouldn't be able to ship for 4 weeks after that. I couldn't wait that long and the $100 cheaper Axiom setup...
Just to report back, I headed over to my dad's place but ended up hooking a pair of crappy speakers to my 45tx (not enough slack in the speaker wires from my dad's setup) along with his dvd player. I popped in a CD and it played fine. All the functionality seemed to be there although I did not...
Uh oh... I better go take the plunge and switch out my dad's reciever at his place with this one and see if it works (been waiting to buy speakers first but now I think I better just go through with the hassle of using my dad's stuff). I will let you know how it goes...
If you want to go refurb, check out www.ecost.com (or pcmall.com or macmall.com or clubmac.com... all the same). I just picked up a refurbed 45tx that got here yesterday. Looks to be in good condition, haven't got a chance to play around with it though. For around $550 shipped, you can't go wrong.
I'd stay away from Sony's. Have never had a good experience with them. From your list, I would go with Hifonics/Crunch and then stay away from the rest. Other options would be US Acoustics (check out www.thezeb.com for some good deals on them) and the Soundstream Picasso line up. $100...
Ported being better is entirely dependent on the listener. For cars, I like sealed and for HT I like ported. Bandpass is just disgusting to me (so much boom and roll...). Bandpass boxes are usually used for lower power applications to make it seem like there is mroe power being driven than there...
I would chose any of the Elemental Design offerings. I own the K series and it is a great sub that sounds like its worth 10x what its price is. I have heard the A series and have never heard anything better. www.edesignaudio.com (same site as the poster above)
Ecost, Macmall, PcMall, and ClubMac are all the same store sharing the same inventory. Why ecost is cheaper than Macmall I don't know (neither does the rep I called). But, I placed an order with Macmall but they had run out of them at that time. They claim to be getting some more in on Friday...
Well, my reciever is an old Onkyo model, back when Pro-Logic one was new. The only bass control is a knob on the reciever (theres also a treble knob... exciting). The only way I can get a decent output from the sub is to turn the gains up that much with the bass all the way up on the receiver...
I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, but its considerably more visited then teh DIY forum so I thought I'd give it a whirl here... So I've put together my DIY 85L Dayton DVC based sub tuned to 22 Hz (or 20 Hz, I forget...). I am using a 250 watt PE amp to run it and it gets VERY hot...
Pryamid, Pyle, Legacy, and a slew of other brands are no no's. They are serious current hogs and will greatly hamper your alternator, they are poorly built, and they will probably break within the first year or so. Clarion makes some GREAT displays if you ask me. Pioneer is my personal...
Kevin, I am in a similiar situation. I have lost $515 to an admitted "malicious deal" (admitted by seller). I spoke to a lawyer regarding my situation and he said that filing a small claims suit would almost be not worth it. However, he suggested something far more interesting. Since I had...
I am not interested in buying but just wanted to say that you did a gorgeous job on those speakers. Building a sub to that exact alignment myself but I don't think mine will turn out that good looking. Great job. Free bump!
Mark, I wish I had the room for that behemoth, but my tiny apt (and my weenie neighbors) won't have any of it. 85L Vented Shiva for me :emoji_thumbsup: . However, my father is in need of a sub, but I know he was hoping to stay around $250. I will pass this along to him and see what he...
Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it. Wendell, Did you think the Axiom's were a bit bright initially and thats why you switched out the crossover? That is my overwhelming concern with these speakers is their metallic woofer and tweeter being too bright. Niraj
Thanks for the replies. Thats pretty much the impression I'm getting from reading search results... The NAD is a more detailed and forward reciever and the HK is more warm. I think I'm leaning towards the HK since I plan on getting some Axiom/Ascends (relatively bright speakers). Jonny...
I have heard the 525 and liked what I heard. Its a good warm sound that isn't too fuzzied and pairs well with just about any non-laid back speaker. Good features, good build quality. The nad though, I have not heard nor do I think there is a dealer in the area. To those of you who have heard...
