I did some further testing and this is what I found. I am using two speakers for the L/R Surround Back. I disconnected the the right back surround allowing only the left to act as a single center back channel. I changed the set-up for the surround back accordingly. This configuration worked...

Everything is correct as far a speaker connections go. The only time the surround back is disabled is when I turn it off in the set-up menu or listen to 2ch.
