Went to tweeter to check out the sony 34" widescreen XBR800...and the guy was really selling me on the 40" xbr8-00 4:3 set. Saying that you would get a bigger 16:9 screen plus the 40" for 4:3 viewing...cost was about the same if you include the stand. Any opinions? -Dan
Thanks for all the responses! I am considering getting the sony 34xbr800 (or the newer model in the summer). I have a 20" tv now, so I am expecting anything bigger to be a substantial improvement. The room viewing distance seems exceptionally long to me, so I would assume that when I...
He has a sony 32" plasma screen....I am considering getting the sony 34" xbr...what stretch modes are available for this model and how do they differ? Thanks for all the responses! -Dan
I am considering getting a 34" widescreen. As of now, I am sitting around 12 ft. from my tv. This seems extraordinary far, but it is the way my apt. is setup. My concern is when I move into another place, I probably won't be sitting this far away. What should I do? -Dan
Hey, I was curious to know what viewing mode all of you watch 4:3 content. I am considering purchasing a wide screen tv, but after watching a friend of mines in "stretched" mode I am not sure I can deal with that. Sometimes it looks ok, but others it is really obvious that it is stretched...
Unfortunalty my tv only has coaxial connection, so I had to get a RF modulator (i know, I am saving for a new tv)...does it degrade the picture quality at all? Thanks.
well, after reading up on interlaced pictures, i think that it is just what that...a crappy interlaced picture...I only notice it when I am sitting close (really close) to the tv, which is good because i don't think there is something wrong with the player. Unfortunatly i don't have a tv with...
Can someone answer me how wide these bars are? This is my first dvd player and while watching a movie in interlaced mode on my 20" tv using composite connection I can see flickering or what seems like rolling thin (1/16")black/white horizontal lines evenly spaced . I am wondering if this is...
I just got a cp72...I am trying to locate these horizontal lines...question...how thick are these horizontal lines? Are they thin? I am running the player in non-progressive mode through an RCA connection on a 20" tv. I am not sure if what I am seeing is the shitty non-progressive picture or...
Anyone know of an online retailer that would have some left? I found a few but they are a bit more than what I've heard people are buying them for. Thanks.
I bought it at J&R...I'll be in the city tommorrow so I'll take it back then...unfortunatly they don't have anymore in stock so hopefully they don't give me a hard time about getting my money back. I am also a bit skeptical about getting another one, although I will most likely give it another...
Is there something wrong with my unit or is it me? I just got this today and all the buttons on the unit itself except the disc exchange, disc skip, and open/close are NOT working. I can use the remote and everything works, but when I try to use the buttons on the machine they don't work. The...
For those that have had a poor grounding problem on the cp72, how can I check if I have the same problem? Unfortunatly I don't have component or svideo connection to the tv yet...can I still see the problem if I have it? Thanks! -Dan
thanks for the clarification...got a bit scared there...yeah I here what you are saying about the widescreen, however I get just as much viewing area with the 36" 4:3 than with a 34" 16:9...and the black bars don't really bother me...I mean when I watch stuff on tv now that is pseudo-widescreen...
are you sure we are talking about the same models here? I don't think there is a 600 or 700 model for the sony 36" kv-36HS500 CRT television. I searched for threads on this flicker problem and it only seems to be for projection tv's...please clarify!
I am considering purchasing this set...how do you like this model? Did you consider XBR, if so why did you choose the HS500? Did you consider widescreen, if so why did you choose 4:3 over 16:9? Anything I should know about this model before purchase? Any opinions are appreciated, thanks! -Dan
i am about to purchase this set as well (24 months no interest!!!) Did you consider getting the XBR model instead? How does the DRC option look when enabled?
Seems strange that panasonic is offering both of these rebates, however both require an original UPC label from the box and both go to different addresses. Is it possible to receive both of these offers or do I have to choose one since I only get one UPC label on the box. Anyone look into this...
My tv does not have component or s-video connections, however my digital cable box has s-video...will i get a progressive scan picture using the s-video connection on my cable box and then run the coaxial from cable box to tv? Thanks! -Dan
Any opinions...I'm about to pull the trigger on the cp72, now there is this hoopla about the new models...although they don't seem to have anything spectacular over the current models...anyone have inside info on the new models? Thanks! -Dan
WOW! Thanks for all the responses, everything is so clear to me now...ha! The more I think about it, I can get a 36" 4:3 Sony HS/XBR model for cheaper than the 34" 16:9 XBR and still have almost the same size 16:9 screen and still have the 4:3 for current viewing? I mean, in the future when...
