I just realized last night while viewing my sony wega 300 series and my old 13"(?) mitsubishi (one located in first floor bedroom, the other in living room...both can be seen at same time if i just move my head) that the sony is missing a tiny portion of the vertical picture..both top and bottom...
What do you folks think of the sony grand wega series? How does it compare to other rptv, and how does it compare to plasma? Thoughts on the fact it is an LCD, which, I suppose, puts it in a different category than some others. Thank much in advance.
Man-Fai...well, then that explains it. I guess I'll just say that plasma, then, seems not be just a gimmicky 4" deep HD decorating statement, but (as far as I've seen) a standard for displaying hd content. Filmlike you say, that's exactly what it looked like..even though I argued here that...
"The image is much clearer on RPTV's than on direct-view displays, and while FP's may be nice, they're impractical most of the time for regular-person use (i.e. without a dedicated HT room, without 100% control on lights, etc.)." That's the second time I've read this in recent days - but it...
Can someone help reconcile this for me: Today I was gawking at tvs at circuit city. The tv that I am shooting for for my next, wega hs500 (actually I would like the 600), was next to the wall of plasma sets. A larger panasonic and smaller hitachi or something. Circuit city had some looped...
Jeff, based on what I read, I'm using your set for my 'gold standard'wish list. Do you have any ability to compare your drc, progressive sony to say...my 27" 300 series wega? I'm just curious how that drc, line-doubling, what have you, compares to the standard wega without such. For the sake...
I started a thread on this topic a couple days ago..still waiting for more replies. In the meantime... I thought,in a general sense, it was better to let the tv do the progressive work, as opposed to the dvd player. Although, I may have this confused with another function.
"and I dislike seeing side bars on 4:3 material on 16x9 even more." And there's something...if I understand this stuff correctly, when your 4:3 tv is receiving that 'pseudo' 16:9 picture, vis a vis mtv videos or a plethora of other programming, your picture is actually completely surrounded...
I understand that there are two sony wega models that possess the 'drc'. The 32hs500 and 32hv600. I also understand that the drc is another name, basically, for line doubling. I read a review on the '500', i believe, where the reviewer didn't like the drc because it made his set look pixated...
Matt, fair enough. I concede and perhaps should read more carefully. The CRT I was referring to was for direct tv, not thinking or remembering that it is available in other forms. I'm not sure if that was the info you were referring to that I never did address... I remain open minded about...
My mother's sony 32-fq75 (just three years old)has developed,in the lower left corner, a small pink/purplish tinged blemish. It looks as if the set was burnt..although that's not the best way to describe it. It's not the same pink bars that I get on my new wega..it's not that at all. It's...
Matt, First, please use paragraphs so your combative posts are more easily read. Second, my question "Just what do you mean when you refer to.."...is exactly that - a request for a distinction from the original poster. That is, did he mean compression in the general sense, or as in a...
"I also had to get used to the fact that what I was seeing on the 32" before was an illusion that wasn't real - it's compressed so small (comparitively)that it doesn't show most flaws you are finding now." I'm not so sure that that's a fair statement. And I wouldn't mind hearing someone speak...
For what it's worth..I'm in a writin' mood tonight. I'm as anal as they come (no comments please), I have a 27" wega 300 series and I a/b'ed the s-video and component. I took images and freeze framed and quickly compared. Yes, there is a difference (in my situation)in detail...and it is...
Ok...I'm familiar with the difference (on a 27" wega set) of composite,s-video, and component cables. There is a difference between s-video and component, though unless I freeze frame and examine, I don't know that I'd ever see the difference. The difference between composite and s-video, which...
Justin, for the record, I bought my dvd player just a couple months ago and was stumped over why my picture was so small. I had picked an 2.35:1 film to watch on my 25" tv. I called the local video store to see what I was doing wrong with my settings. No one ever volunteered to me what happens...
Here is a link to an excellent source for 'pictoral' info you requested. Some good stuff here for other members, too.

I recently bought the kv27fv300 (or something like that). I, too, had asked for help from forum members with the same thing. Not that I got a reply then, but, I realized that I wasn't the first to spot the pink lines. Mine are really only noticeable on the left side...they are there on the...
Neve campbell...yes..that's the one. "Made for tv movie"..well I guess that explains it, I was wondering why they chose this format. Ok..thanks to both for responses.
Mike, here is a link to the thread, started by yours truly.

I hope that works. If not just search threads under my moniker, there aren't too many. It's the thread that's headed something like "theater projection vs .."
I think the link...
Apologies in advance for summoning responses that have surely been posted previously. I have a sony wega 300 series and I, admittedly, like to marvel at the component video dvd picture when renting dvds. The set has the auto 16:9 mode and I know that is better than not having it, and I sort...
Continuing same discussion: I get the points raised referring to my 'own' concerns over clarity. Well taken, but, while I do seem to prefer direct view, I can still pine for a somewhat larger image. My question was would I 'really see' any picture clarity issues with an upgrade from 27 to...
Fair points...I don't mind hearing them. Here's a follow up question: If I go from my 27"wega300 series to the same in a 32"...will I get the benefits of a larger screen (especially for letterbox movies) but at the expense of less clarity because of upgrade in size. I am so happy with my...
More on my last post: Another thing I don't understand is that many folks spend so much money on their rptv systems. They then go out and buy the most expensive monster cables etc. They compare them as if they 'want' the best one for their money. To me, it's akin to looking for the best tv...
This reply will surely rattle some folks. It is not the intent, and it is only my opinion. I simply do not 'get' the rptv. It is last on the totem pole of the clarity issue, yet folks purchase them like there is no tomorrow. My question is...why? I understand that they are big and the...
Eric, the 'out' I am referring to would be, for example, just running a couple stereo speakers out from the tv - via the 'audio out'. This, would give me better separation, wattage if I want it. Of course, it could be powered by an ordinary stereo receiver. Incidentally, If I decide to use...
Eric,Wayne.. Thanks for replies. Wayne, sounds like prudent advice. I didn't 'think' I would be able to short cut to 5.1 While I'm a musician, and I've also had occasion to audition the 5.1 and dts at a relative's, I didn't give much thought to stereo separation improving just my wega...
I have a wega kv27fv300. The stereo sound is rather good especially because of the 15w subwoofer and the trusurround. It's not 5.1 of course, but it's excellent otherwise. My questions: If I purchased a Dolby 5.1(or similar ilk) receiver, would I be able to negate the purchase of all 5...
