    Elf Spires plans

Hello all, I bought a pair of floorstanding spires (just the kits) last summer. I'd like to start building them pretty soon. Does anyone have the plans handy to construct them? Thanks!

    CD deck problems.

Hi there, I'm having some problems with my CDM-7871 alpine deck. On some cd's it'll skip during later tracks (usually track 10 and up) But for the first couple tracks it's fine. Other cd's, it'll play all the way through, no problems. This happens with burned cd's, and authentic cd's...

    DTS/Dolby Digital posters.

My girlfriend is going to paint me some DTS/DD posters, and anything else I can think of for my theater room. Does anyone have any good pictures of such posters that she can get some inspiration from? Thanks.

DIY MTM speaker + NAD amp = 'hot' tweeter

Brian, I'm not really too sure how old it is. I bought it through Creative Sound Solutions about a year ago. Took me quite awhile to get them all built up :) The x-overs did come fully assembled. All pre sauldered and everything, if that says anything. I will contact Adire though, thanks!

DIY MTM speaker + NAD amp = 'hot' tweeter

I've been wondering about this forwawhile. My Adire Kit 281's have always sounded a bit bright to me. I was orginally suspecting my room, but after aiming them all over the place I couldn't really get the brightness to decrease or increase. I then suspected my NAD PE2200 amp. Tested it with a...

Anyone ever got their speakers powder coated?

Ugh, I had no idea it involved baking. I guess that'd screw the glue up pretty good. Darn.

Anyone ever got their speakers powder coated?

Anyone ever got their speakers powder coated? The other day I saw a truck with an add of powder coating on it, as my kit 281's still need a finish I figured mayhaps I could get em powder coated. Called the people up today, it'd cost about 300 bucks Canadian to get both cabinets done...

    Tempests + BFD = Hum

Awesome awesome AWESOME. I unfortuantly couldn't find any cheater plugs in town, as they've been outlawed by the CSA (Canadian Sales Association) So I ripped the ground pin off. Bye bye hum. I can jack the volume as loud as I want on the amps and hear absolutly no hum. You guys rule, thanks!

I just don't know what to do.... How to finish DIY Speakers..

Brett, I've been looking for a way to finish my speakers as well (Adire Kit 281's) I think your idea is very very cool. Would you mind terribly if perhaps I finished mine in the same fasion?

    Tempests + BFD = Hum

Haven't tried a cheater plug on any of the devices yet. They usually sold at general hardware stores? Thanks. Anything else I should pick up on my way home today?

    Tempests + BFD = Hum

Sorry, I meant I am using the -10 volt settings.

    Tempests + BFD = Hum

Well, I just installed the BFD today and now I'm getting quite a bit of hum from my subs. My setup is as follows. Nad T752 to BFD (DSP 1124) to either a plate amp or a stereo amp. When the subs are calibrated to a 'proper' volume (around the same dB as the mains) I can hear both the...

    Raw Acoustics?

I'm definatly going to DIY NW on the 22nd. And I'm hoping Craig goes. Seeing that monster tumult would be *awesome* :) I'll be sure to bring my rat shack digital SPL meter so we can max it out :P

    VSAC coming

Hey, this VSAC, I haven't heard much about it. What is it? :) I'm thinking it's a DIY gathering? Thanks!

What SPL's do you see with your DIY subs?

I'm jsut generating my sine waves from winisd off my computer. (Running a digital connection from the computer to my receiver, through my game theater XP) Not a bad setup for computer sound. For now I'm just running one tempest so I'm only running the AVA250, when/and if I do build the...

What SPL's do you see with your DIY subs?

What type of SPL's do you guys commonly see (or have the capability to reproduce) with your DIY subs? I originally bought 2 tempests, with the intention of building two sonosubs. I completed the first, and I can't imagine needing a second! If my friends ask for some demo's, I usually crank up...

    Considering building another Tempest.

Justin, I'm not an expert, but I'll try my best. 1) You probably wouldn't gain a solid 6 dB. If you ran the sealed amp a little 'hotter' then the vented (to make up for the extra output of the vented enclosure) You'd probably gain close to 6-- although, as the frequencies got lower and lower...

    Push pull Sono sub?

I wouldn't even know how to begin building a transmission line in a sonotube. I'd like to keep this fairly easy, if it's at all feasable.

    Push pull Sono sub?

Hi there. I own 2 tempests, only one in use. It's in an adire alignment sonotube. I was originally planning on building a second in the same design, but looking at the size of the beast, I'm not to sure if I'd be able to fit it! Plus, reading a thread recently in this forum, about having...

    Tornado nut mounting procedure

    Tornado nut mounting procedure

Thanks guys, I used a C clamp, and pressed them in great, I guess with the more evenly spread presure the teeth managed to get in nice and tight. Sadly after doing that, I put my front baffle on, and now with the tornado nuts in there, a few of the screws don't line up. (They slide in with...

    Tornado nut mounting procedure

Hi all, tonight I finally started pounding in the Tornado nuts. Much to my dismay, they didn't go very smoothly at all. (These are for an adire Kit 281) They were extremely hard to pound in (I was very afraid I was going to 'break' the rabbet for the AV8s, I could see it flexing) Also, out of...

    Some sonosub questions

Thanks for the replies guys. Sadly, I have already bought the tube, and cut it to length. And the 20" diameter is hard enough to work with! If I were to port one end of the tube, would the length increase or decrease? And if so, by how much? I'm not to sure if that long of a port is...

    Some sonosub questions

Sorry Tim, your quite correct, I feel like a noob :) It's the Tempest. Expect to hopefully be giving it a healthy 700 watts or so. (Not that I'll ever need 700 watts, but when power is on the cheap, why not! :)) Thanks again everyone.

    Some sonosub questions

Any other reasons then it being top heavy? I'm not worried about these suckers tipping over. Also, the top will have a disk a couple inches above it, so the woofer won't be exposed. (I have a cat of death, he'd tear it up within seconds! :)) The tube is 20" diamater. I'm not sure what...

    Some sonosub questions

Hello all, I'm about midway through my sonosub design. I'm going for the Adire Alignment Design (Only took me 2 months to decide on a design! :)) So, I've cut my tube so I'll have approximatly 214L (How much leeway would I have on the total internal volume, can I safely be 10L out of spec...

dual tempests + 1400 watts -- what enclosure?

Hi all, I manage to have two tempests sitting around. (IB setup didn't work as I planned) and an amp that'll be able to give em a nice healthy 1400 watts. (QSC RMX 1450) Well, haven't bought the amp yet, but will hopefully soon! While I'm waiting for the amp, I want to build an enclosure for...

    What designs for my tempests?

No worries about the size of the port. I'm a little confused, using a 4" port, I was getting a length of 23" or so.. (Using WinISD pro) Sides, it _is_ a big piece of sonotube. To make up for the lost displacement, I can add a few inches to the overall length of the tube. (20" is very cost...

    What designs for my tempests?

Hi all, I happen to have 2 tempests that need an enclosure. I also have a 250 watt plate amp. I'm very interested in the thought of a sonosub, and can get sonotube rather cheap in my area. I of course want tight bass for music, and loud low bass for HT. I was thinking of building 2 sonosubs...
