I just picked up a new in the box Yamaha 5660 for $169+tax and an open box (only missing the manual) Panasonic SA-XR25 for $107+tax (20% off open box discount). Anyone want to buy a used Pioneer 811? :-)
I also have the 811s but paired with a Dahlquist 5.1 set up. I just added an Audiosource Amp 2 for the fronts that I got for $249 shipped from J&R through Amazon. Overall, I like it. It is low profile so it fits well on my shelves with room overhead to keep it cool.
I definitely notice more...
All this talk about separates has me thinking now about an upgrade (damn!). My current set up (811 and Dahlquist) was my first HT experience and I tried to get decent quality on a pretty slim budget. I always thought I would upgrade amplification in the future. Looking into Parasound has me...
I also have the 811 and, for me at least, I find that music is better WITHOUT using Midnight mode. For DVD's on the other hand, I like Midnight mode for a nice overall boost without waking up the kiddies :) That said, I think the 711 should be loud enough for you, unless maybe, you like...
I currently have a Toshiba 27" standard (very curved screen) analog TV that I bought about 5 or 6 years ago. It was the only affordable 27" at the time that had component inputs. It has been a great TV, but I recently spent a few bucks on an HT sound system (AV receiver, 5 Dahlquist...
I ordered my DLS sub right after Christmas and have also been having some screwy problems with the auto-on. Also, just recently, I started to get intermittent popping noises from the sub when playing sources at low volumes. After stumbling across this thread, I just called, talked to Eric, and a...
I see they use Motorola DSP's in the higher-end Elite receivers. Maybe Motorola cut them a deal by going with them across their line-up and it enabled them to use Motorola in the "consumer" level models, too. I would still like to know if they are any better than the Crystal DSP's.
I just picked up the RS analog SPL meter to calibrate my new HT setup. Can someone explain how the correction factors are used? BTW, I'm also using the Video Essentials DVD.
This sounds a lot like the current 811. Upgrades from the 811 I think are the Motorola DSP (I think the 811 uses Crystal?) and the Pioneer auto-calibration feature MCACC. I don't see anything else in the list you posted that is different, although there may be more. I also believe the 811 MSRP...
I just set-up my first HT and I've been experiementing with different speaker size settings, etc. to find the right sound. I'm using the DLS sub and have a question about it's operation. I have my fronts set to "large" and the sub setting on my receiver (Pioneer 811) set to send low...
I've had my 811 for about a month now and have been very happy with the sound quality in both music and movies. I have it combined with 5 Dahlquist speakers and the DLS sub from Parts Express. The only thing I can compare it to is my friends Pioneer Elite reciever and while his system sounds...
Can anyone comment on if there is any advantage to having a unit with a more recent production date? Do receiver manufacturers make production changes or updates during the life of individual models? I'm trying not to be anal about this, but I'm curious. So far, my unit seems to be working...
I was wondering about manufacture dates because I just bought an 811 in December and it was manufactured in April (I believe that is when the model was first released). I bought it at Circuit City and I was surprised that it would have been around that long.
I wanted to post my experience on the Pioneer 811/Dahlquist question. There was a post a while back where someone had problems driving an HT setup using this receiver and the new Dahlquist speakers. I have 2 QX8's, 2 QX4's and the QX50C center. I received my speakers recently and have not had...
I wanted to post a quick follow-up on the Pioneer 811/Dahlquist issue. There was a post a while back where someone had problems driving an HT setup using this receiver and the new Dahlquist speakers. I received my speakers recently and have not had any problems driving them with the 811. I...
Thanks Marc for the quick response. Per our phone conversation, I didn't realize that the visible "speaker" was just a dust cover the actual voice coil, so sound quality should not be affected. And, by the way, in the short amount of listening time I've had, they do sound excellent. I'm looking...
Yes, I got them from Marc, and I'm certain he will be helpful about it. Interestingly, there are no unusual marks or dents on the woofer center (like it was pushed in), it almost looks like it was made that way. Anyway, I'm a complete newbie at all this, so my first reaction was panic. :)
I...
I just unboxed my new Dahlquist speakers and while giving them the once-over, I have found that the center of the woofer on one of the QX8's is pushed in. I looked at the other one and it definitely should be out. I think that would be convex as opposed to concave.
The question is, how big of...
Thanks for the info. I was able to move a couple of things around, adjust a shelf and now I have about 6" above the receiver, I hope this will be enough. If not, it should not be a problem getting a fan panel to fit in the back of the armoire. I will see how this goes.
