It's a small, black, rectangular spot near the middle of the screen. (It's small enough that I'm not entirely sure that it's rectangular-- it may be square). Moving the screen (by pressing gently on it) doesn't change the relative position of the dot. I.e., I don't think it's a dirty spot on...
Doug_E_P-- The DLPs also have pixels go out. The one in our local CC's showroom has one pixel out, for instance... It is a _lovely_ picture, though... Me
Grant-- you're right-- it does say in the manual that "When you select 'Receiver' on Video Label, your projection TV's input is fixed." Of course, that's only true on Video 1, and it's not actually fixed (well, it's fixed w/ respect to channel changing, but not TV/Vid...). So I don't feel too...
Bill-- that's a great point! I tried it, and the behavior only manifests itself on input 1. Thanks a lot for the suggestion. For anyone who cares: It only happens on input 1 when it's set to "Receiver". (Tried all the other possibilities). It does not happen on inputs 2, 3, or 4 when...
Steve-- thanks for the advice. It's always good to hear how people make their decisions. However, my next RPTV may well not be a Sony. Anyway, my point is that if they can't fix this unit, then replacement doesn't really help me. This unit is quite amazingly good-- if I'm going to replace it, it...
Wowzers! 58 minutes for a careful, insightful, well-written, and exactly on-target reply. Is it any wonder that I recommend this board to every single one of my customers with a brain? Steve-- given how good this TV looks (and after another day at work looking at other TVs, I've...
Sorry if this is a known problem, but I couldn't find anything (frankly, couldn't find any good terms to search on). I just got a Sony KP51-WS500 (WooHoo! Awesome!). It looks great, but after I named my Video 1 input ("Receiver"), I have the following behavior: When I'm on Video 1 and I...
Can't speak to downtown Seattle, but A) The best antenna is an appropriate length of wire. Have you tried that? Experiment with different antennas, in different places in your house... B) Your cable company should supply the STB-- if they don't, a random HD decoder probably wouldn't work. Me
That is an excellent price. Anything below $2100 would qualify as a good price. New models are coming out, but you're not likely to get that price on the new models anytime soon. PQ won't be hugely different (MHO only), but some features may well be added. Me
That's a great price for this virtually new TV. At our store, we haven't even taken our display out of the box yet, but given what it's replacing, I'd expect it to look pretty good. Me
Okay. I'd just about decided to get the Sony KP-51WS500* So anyway, I had my decision made, and then Sony announced their new lines. The 51WS510 comes out in July. The only significant difference I can see on the WS510 is the addition of a manual convergence option (from hometheaterspot's...
Alayn-- to answer your original question: Features-wise, the 140 is great (firewire, DVI, ethernet connectivity, built-in web browser, can even have a keyboard). The picture is quite decent. Tweaking is less easy, and there's not as much of a community out there. Biggest problem is the...
Depending on your room setup (and your walls), in-walls have the potential to run from sounding very good to very bad. When they do work, they're an awfully inexpensive way to get pretty decent sound with a very high WAF. When they don't work, they can sound pretty terrible. You can get a...
The cables the tech brought me weren't bad, but they certainly weren't top-notch. Actually, I've seen them on-line somewhere, but can't for the life of me remember where (I've been at a lot of sites in the past 24 hours...). I do remember that they weren't terribly expensive. Anyway, they're...
If anyone else cares: Short S-video cables at MCM They have 1, 2, and 3 foot, in both "gold plated" and "nickel plated". I have no idea how good these are, but I'm going to order a few and see how I like them, and make my own audio cables using John Krutke's instructions. Looks like neato...
Thanks a lot! I missed that thread, and it's very cool. Jay-- you should be able to find a 6" phone cord at the Rat$hack. At least, they had them when I slaved there, Me
I'm trying to find some short S-video and fiber optic cables. Requirements are A) 1.5 ft (=.5m) or less (I'd like some of the S-vids to be .5ft = 15cm) B) Less than $10 Best I've been able to find so far is some TecNec s-vid cable from MarkerTek. My apologies in advance if this is a...
It doesn't have pre-ins (not really), but it does have a set of 8 analog inputs that are essentially unfiltered on the way through the amplifiers (the 325 doesn't even allow the option of doing bass mgmt on those inputs, unlike its big brother, the 525). So, Whitney, the answer is yes. Take...
I have the 3911, but I don't know how comparable that is. It's a pretty decent VCR, easy to program, pretty good rewind/ff/etc. Missing some stuff, but for $150, it's pretty good. The difference is pretty impressive, especially if you have a good source (I use my HDTV cable box). It's not...
The HK AVR 525 advertises the ability to decode HDCD. I'm not saying this proves anything (unlike some on this board, I don't believe that the presence of a commercial product purporting to do something proves that this something is necessary or even exists), but I tend to believe that anywhere...
So, you're saying that in order to keep y'all coming back into CC and making people spend fifteen minutes (cost: $2.00 even at BB wages) setting aside a DVD that CC never makes more than $1.00 on and are currently selling at $2.00 under cost, CC has to devote even more floor space to our lowest...
I'd look at the last few posts in this thread-- especially the web sites referenced therein. It was near the top of the list when you started this new thread. Me
But isn't the bandwidth halved again because there are half as many color lines up and down? Or does that just happen in the encoding? Sorry for the simplistic answer above-- you're clearly asking a smarter question than I can answer. (Oh, but a component hookup can definitely handle it--...
Oh my gosh. I can't believe I didn't check R$ out. Aside from the fact that it's Rat$hack, that's a great answer-- more than I was looking for. Thanks a lot, Grant! Anybody else have any ideas? This will definitely do, but I'd prefer something a little higher quality than I'm used to from...
