The Orb stuff is nice, but pricey for small rigs.I like Polk Audio Sub/Sat systems for small setups. I say small setup usage, because any decent size room will stretch those cube/orb speakers into destruction on heavy movie tracks.Polk 6800
The thickness of the conductor is less important than the shielding around the conductor. The low level signal is never in jeopardy of over powering a 22-24 gauge wire. 1-2 volts is all that line levels usually carry. Keeping noise out of that signal is the important element.
Wilson, If you like the tower look better, then go for it. I have found towers to be more stable than bookshelfs on stands myself, too top heavy. Pricing on bookshelfs with good stands come closer to the tower price anyway. Personally, I don't like mounting to a wall either, since the...
I agree, that speakers should stay with same brand if you like the B&Ws. This is for an even transition from channel to channel. For a projector, you need to do alot of research to see what technology looks best for you. They each have pros and cons to their design. You need to consider where...
They wait so long between products that many lose interest. The products are top shelf, but few and far between their intros. Try AV123.com they put out a steady stream of solid gear.
The zoom feature doesn't hold enough difference in size for you? I set my PJ back as far as the screen will allow at maximum zoom and then the zoom ring allows me to get a smaller more detailed picture when needed. No need to move the PJ.
No ground on the sub wire? Then it may be coming in from a source on your sub cable. This could be caused by a TV cable, phone line, or ethernet line hooked into a power bar or any other component. Find a switch that causes it regularly and try unplugging stuff until it goes away. It really is a...
The ground lifter is for your gear and just isolates the ground from the component that is amplifying the pop. This is a cheap method of testing if the ground is an issue. If it doesn't fix the popping, then it is coming into your system elsewhere. I mention grounds, since they have always...
Its probably not a outlet. It is probably a light socket or fan wiring that is losing ground. Use the lifter to find the problem, not as a permanent fix. I have to use one on my projector, since it is on a different circuit and the ground is made through my VCR Tv cable then out through the...
To find the grounding problem within your house that is causing this may require an electrician to check all items that are on the circuit. Something has lost a ground, and the static is seeking the ground through your sub. It sounds like static electricity working its way through your sub...
Here is the wire I used inwall. 14 Gauge is 14 cents a foot,16 guage is 9 cents. Carol Speaker Wire If you want a better quality inwall cable, this is the best I've seen, but it is pricy at over $1 a foot. Cobalt Inwall Wire
It won't matter what direction your sub faces; up, down, sidefiring is all the same as the wave lenghts that the sub produces are longer than your room and find their way out into the room regardless. The location of the sub in your room (corner, close to walls, etc.)has more affect.Tweeters...
If you plan on running it inwall, get wire rated for "inwall" usage. If by chance, you should experience a fire, you don't want to be held liable for not meeting codes. That could take all the fun out of good HT.:) It doesn't have to be expensive, just heavy enough to handle the load...
If you didn't work for a dealer, I would suggest that you buy the gear that you dream of owning, since you would lose $$$ at each resale. You might be okay along the upgrade path if you are buying at discount. The 90's and 100's may tax your receiver some, but you can always add a 2 channel...
Keith, Sorry that I hadn't kept up with the brisk sales of the Altas drivers after the price drop. I see that Chad had around a dozen left at the first of this month, and I am sure those are gone by now. On that note, I would recone or ebay one cheap, then buy a new model 6 months from...
The most expensive speakers at the best price won't be any good for you if you don't like how they sound. Don't buy on price or discount. Don't buy from a catalog. Don't buy what anyone suggests, we don't know your ears. Speakers are the single most important audio decision that you will make...
Replace, reface. Take your pick of the terminology. They aren't going to continue to make old versions of their amps any longer. The 770 and 7100 may just be refaced to look updated, as they are good amps, but a company that intentionally matched their product line, will most likely continue...
The 770 is being replaced with the model 790. Balanced inputs, 300WPC, dual power cables to handle the 2100 watts and looks to match the 990 pre/pro. Other models to replace the 7100 will be coming later this year that should hit the sweet spot of 100-200 WPC, but they have yet to be...
Receivers are only affected if video switching is required. Alot of people don't even use their receivers today to handle switching since another piece of equipment in the chain can cause degrading of the picture.
Going into a smaller room? My system got an upgrade simply by downsizing the room. I went from 31 foot long 7.1 setup to a 16 foot 5.1 room and the smaller size gets all it can handle with the same components that were stretched filling the basement room I had it in. Try it out before you...
Make it a 6 foot tall rack on a 12 inch tall lumber foundation. Depending on your location, I've got 8 3/4 inch 6 ft. threaded rods with nuts and washers for almost exactly what you are planning. I went front projection instead of flexy unit. I live in Okla. and would let them go cheap. I've...
If you are worried about interference, you might try a Cat5 based speaker wire setup. TNT Audio has a great DIY section on cabling.Triple Cat 5 Speaker Wires Just a thought, DG
I did Dual Adire Shivas in the bottom of my Hide-a-bed couch. The bed portion had seen better days and this allowed me to build a 10 cubic foot ported box that holds the 2-12 inch subs. Yes, you can feel the bass. I drive it with a 320 watt plate amp and have it tuned to 17 hz for great home...
At the $500 pricepoint, I would go with the one that offers the features you want. You won't hear a great difference in sound in any of those you mentioned through the sub-sat setup you chose. Any of those receivers will drive the setup to its limits.
Consider used, The RTi lineup has been good for the past 5 years or so. The looks stayed the same until just this past year, just try and match tweeter material types if you can to get a timbre (tone) match. Polk carries all replacement parts of you should ever need it.
