The time has come where I am downsizing (considerably) my setup and I’m looking to sell off a few pieces:Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player. SOLD Outlaw 990 Preamp/Processor. About 3 years old, works great, never had a problem with it. All accessories, manual, remote(s) included. Original owner...
Background story: I've devised a bit of a 3 tier upgrade plan to help my parents upgrade their a/v setup. Their TV is pretty decent but most of the audio stuff is a little outdated (H/K AVR70 receiver, pretty mediocre speakers). So over the next 3 holidays I laid it out. 1. This year -...
I bought the 990 last year to go with my Carver AV-105 amp, it replaced a Nakamichi AV-8 receiver that had been doing the pre/pro duties. Overall, I am really impressed. I looked at an NAD and a B&K at the local hi-fi place (bought some stuff there a few years back) and decided on the outlaw...
FYI, refilling toner cartridge's isn't always possible or reccomended. Some companies integrate the drum and other components into the cartridge which make it more than a tank of toner. Not sure if that is the case with the samsung or not.
Nothing beats a laser printer when you are talking about cost per page. Sure the toner cartridges are expensive, but they are usually good for a few thousdand pages, not a few hundred. I had a laser jet II for about 10 years or so, it was nice only having to replace the toner cartridge every...
That's correct. My old TV (KV-27V66) isn't prog scan or HD ready. I haven't watched a DVD on the XBR (that I am getting) in awhile, I thought I remember scan lines being an issue, but maybe I am just confusing myself.
I am picking up a (used) Sony XBR (KV-36XBR450) and I should probably get a new DVD player. My old Sony DVP-S560D is a good player but doesn't have progressive scan or any of the newer features. I am looking for a player that can upconvert through component, as the TV has no HDMI (obviously...
Well I got the turtle beach today, installed it. Works as advertised, which is definitely good for games. The only thing I wish was that you can make profiles for specific programs, so I could use DDL for games but use PCM out for music.
Thanks, I guess I have to decide whether I want to run a bunch of analog wires or buy a new soundcard. I am using the onboard now, so that probably wouldn't be the worst thing.
This is more of a "affirm my assumption" than a question but here it goes. I have my PC conected to my pre/pro via a toslink cable. The PC I built myself, and I will admit I am a bit more knowledgeable about PC's than HT stuff. The digital output seems to work ok for the most part, all 2...
I have been looking at getting a few sound absorbtion blankets for my (cinder block) walls. I noticed that they look remarkably similar to the "quilted pads" that U-haul sells for moving. Anyone have any experience with either or both? Anyone heard of using moving blankets for this purpose...
Well, with both feet finally in the grave, I have to replace the Nakamichi AV-8 I was using as a Pre/Pro needs to be replaced. I am looking at spending $1500 max. I have no problem with buying used as long as it is a high quality item. Having said that, I would be more inclined to spend say...
My sister has a 19" IBM CRT that she is looking to unload I believe she was asking $50. The shipping would be from NYC and on the ~60lb monitor that might be a killer. Let me know if you are interested. -Pete
I know this is a little bit of a rehash of stuff that has been in a few other threads recently but I am rewiring my HT tomorrow and I am trying to make sure I am using the best cables that I have. Coaxial video cables are 75ohms as are digital coax. But Audio cables can vary in their...
I am moving my (simple) HT to another room and I am somewhat worried about the speaker placement of my front speakers. The wall in question is 12.5ft wide. On the wall I have to fit: Desk: ~ 4ft wide 2 Floor standing speakers: 10in wide TV stand: 33in wide Sub: 12in wide I have thought of...
I like to think I know what I am doing when it comes to this stuff, but I figure someone knows more and could answer some questions for me. In a few days I am going to upgrade the DSS in my parent's house for them. Currently they have a single LNB single room system that is about 4-5 years...
Thanks for the responses everyone. I suppose if I pulled my head out of my arse and looked around I could have found your laser disc primer before I bid on any of this. I also bid on a marantz and a yamaha which I didn't win, I guess it's better that way, as you don't seem to think they are very...
About 3 months ago, I started thinking over getting a Laser Disc player. I figured there was a large and somewhat inexpensive library out there, and the players could be had on e-bay for somewhat cheap. I didn't really know what to look for in a player and ended up bidding on a Pioneer CLD-S201...
I use a Sony DVP-S560 (about 18 months old) and for me it's quite simple. -After the DVD loads up (usually a min or two of BS) at the main menu I just hit "play" on my remote and it plays the movie. Sometimes, a title has both the Widescreen and 4:3 versions on that one side so you have to...
