I figured a front projection was out of my price range ($2,000 or less). Not true?
Does anyone have experience with the Mitsu rear projection -- 65''? I've heard that the picture quality is about as good as a plasma looking at it straight on. But I find that difficult to believe. I wouldn't be...
I'm putting together a new home theater system for a room in my basement. I'll be sitting about 12 feet from the TV (because I have a sectional couch). I initially was going to get a 54'' Panasonic Plasma, but now I'm concerned that it won't be big enough to really feel like I'm watching a...

The receiver I was planning on buying was an Onkyo TX-SR706. Please forgive my ignorance, but is a "BD player" a Blu-Ray player? Or something else.
And when you say: "The difference between HD and SD DVDs is staggering", does that mean the difference between playing DVDs on a regular DVD player...
The DVD player is less than 1 years old, a Sony HDMI DVP NS700H. Not sure if it's able to upconvert 1080p internally -- any ideas if it does? I'm also buying a Panny G10, if that helps.
If I don't have the 1080p upconvert ability through my DVD player, would my Panny do a decent job, if I ran...
I'm looking to buy an Onkyo TX-SR706 (only $540 right now) for the new home theater system I'm building, along with a 1080 pi Panasonic Plasma. I've heard the Onkyo produces great sound, especially for the price. But have also heard from some sources (including CNET re: the SR607) that the...
Thanks for the nice comments! I wish you guys could see it in person....my dumb camera can't capture the ambiance. I'm sure you all know what I mean. Brac, the equipment is behind the curtain on the left of the TV. My remote is powerful enough to go right through it....and the curtain is...
Well, it's been done for a while (almost 2 years) but I finally got around to posting pics. I've been inspired by a lot of you on this forum and have had some original ideas, but I guess in 2 years passing, the ideas aren't so original afterall. :) Sorry about the pics, some are fuzzy, dark...
Hi Daniel, Oh boy, sounds like you're in a pickle. Home theaters and apartments do not mix well. I know, I've lived on the top floor, bottom (cement floor) and middle, and every single place I've had "The Note" left on my door. My solution: I bought a house and now can crank my sub up to the...
Jeff, The center channel speaker, as well as my front left and right, reside behind the curtain. I figured since an IR signal can penetrate the curtain, than sound can as well. But, psycologically, it bothers me. :) So, here is what I plan to do: For the center channel, I have planned to build...
Holy smokes, that's alot of dry wall!! Would anybody have any tips on how to sand the mud down and not get dust everywhere. I just put up two walls in an already finished basement and don't want to get dust on my TV and Pool table! Could I wet-sand drywall??
Jeff, Wow, you and I think alike! I just did the same exact thing for my Tosh 57" widescreen rptv. I found some plush red velvet curtain material on ebay for a great price. (type "velvet curtain in the search and you'll find great prices by the yard) With the help of my mom (she's great!) we...
I second that. Lowes delivers (charged me $35 for everything). So, make it a one time deal. If you want to save some money, Lowe's and Menards have trucks you can rent for about $20 for 2 hours. Good luck!
FYI: Best Buy was selling it for $199 plus tax. Ecost.com had it for $108.00 plus free shipping and no tax. I've had it for over a week and no problems yet. I also checked and they are not refurbished. Just thought I'd let you know...
I have a Toshiba 57" RP HDTV. I currently have it in my basement with absoultely no natural light down there (no windows). What is the optimal light setting to watch movies to achieve the best performance from my TV and most importantly, not cause damage to my eyes? Overhead ceiling lights...
Wow, ok, I feel slightly less stupid than a few days ago, but still confused.
My reciever is a Sony STR-DE445 - Dolby Digital etc.
Speaker package is a Yamaha 5 speaker satellite package:

Sub is also a Yamaha (shown in link)...
Marc, You read correctly. It is also a dolby digital reciever. Ok, so I am going to set all speakers to small EXCEPT the front left and right...which will be set to large. Then on my reciever, I will turn the sub option off on the reciever. hmmm, I guess trial and error will tell. Thanks...
I have a sony reciever str-de445 and when setting up my HT speakers, it asks it gives me three options: Large, Micro or Small. I've searched on this forum and found that Small is best, but what about Micro? My current speaker are Yamaha's and are all the same size (about 12x5 inches)...
Jeff, If you plan on going with a Plasma TV, for that size room, you would want a large one. Which, of course, costs 10K plus - Just for the TV. But who knows...they might drop in price sooner than expected!
