I bought the original korean release from megastar and loved it. I think it says region 3 on the box but is actually region 0. fairly decent transfer and subs from what I recall.
my tv (a toshiba 27afx54) doesn't have per input settings, and the black level noted in the yamaha level doesn't seem to change the black level output. from what I can tell, it's simple a black level expansion setting. My panasonic did have two settings for its black level which is how I got...
After buying a new dvd player (yamaha s550), I notice it's brightness level is much lower than my old player (a panasonic rp62). if I raise the brightness on my tv up to the right point for my dvd player, cable tv is way too bright, as is the xbox. the yamaha lets you adjust the...
Any feedback on a very good quality all region multi format player? I'm thinking about the yamaha s550 or s5750. would like it to play divx, be black, and put out a really nice picture (480i).
I'm running studio 60s/cc with a 1802 and it's really not the worst thing in the world. So far, I've been quite pleased with it even if more power could make it sound even better.
I liked the connoisseurs quite a lot when I listened to them. I still chose paradigm studios over them, but I still recommened that people check them out when shopping for speakers in a slightly lower price range than I was. Very nice speakers, very nice price.
I've watched the CE disc a several times now on two setups and didn't run into any lip synching problems with any three of the english audio tracks either.
I own paradigm studios, don't think rockets are nearly as attractive as everyone else does, agree that axioms are butt, and I get a hard on looking at the bare front maple / silver energy connoisseur speakers. They sound quite nice too. If not for my paradigms, the energys would be next in...
hmm... this might explain why I've been waiting for titans to show up for 3 weeks at my local shop. I'm thinking they'll never arrive with those new ones showing up soon.
I'm running my studio60s and CC with an 80W denon 1802 and have found that it still sounds great. While I think more power would be useful, if you're not pushing it too hard, lower powered receivers can still do a pretty good job with the studios.
only mildly related, a repairman sent by my landlord knocked one of my studio20s off it's stand and it tumbled into the wall. End result: Very minor cosmetic damage to the s20 but scrapes and a hole in the wall larger than an inch wide. I'm glad my s20 is built tough.
another few notes. I'm a paradigm studio v.2 owner, but still really enjoyed the sound of the energy connoisseurs. I chose the paradigms over the energys, but now that the v.3 studios cost 20% more, I see the connoisseurs as fitting in a price bracket starting a bit below the studios. I...
I spent some time listening to the C1s and C3s. The C1s are clear and detailed, but a little harsh compared to the C3s. the C3s are rounder and fuller sounding and smoother (odd, considering they are supposed to share the same tweeter). but the price difference was fairly large. $340 vs...
wow! they look quite short. could this be the digital amplifier lineup hinted at by denon earlier? the numbering system change is quite dramatic, hinting at this too.
Would I be a bad person for suggesting the Studio 60s to look at as well? I chose them since the 40s + stands cost about the same as the 60s did, and I found the 60s physically more attractive. Heard both though, and liked them both very much. Just an option to consider.
I have a denon 1802 running my studio60s/20/cc/pw-2100 setup, and picked up an xr-25 for my brother. I of course had to try it out after all the hype and was initially disappointed with the sound, until I realized the treble and bass settings were cranked in the opposite directions. After...
haven't had time to read this whole thread but wanted to jump in with some notes. Great Chinese movies: Infernal affairs 1, Hero, In the mood for love. Korean: Friend, memories of murder, volcano high, my sassy girl. Japanese: beat takeshi's Zatoichi overrated: shiri (terrible), battle...
I went from Titans to Studio60s and 20s (v2s) and I found a huge difference between them, even when using the same amplification. I'm inclined to believe that if you're not hearing much of a difference, the amplification or room treatment is really killing it. For headphones, I use grados as...
if it helps, I'm driving my v2 studio60s/cc/20s with an 1802 and while maybe not optimal, still blows people away. very sweet sounding, with more headroom available once I get a more powerful receiver
i can't compare sound, but here's a point. Paradigms in vancouver usually get a bigger discount than athenas (at futureshop). The paradigm dealers I know will knock quite a bit off the price (last I saw, titans for $235CAD, atoms for $180cad), whereas the athenas don't tend to get much...
i was changing my setup a bit and needed a coax cable for my dvd player to receiver. I just used a cheap sony stereo interconnect (I mean really cheap) as a standby until I could hit the shop for something nicer, but it worked fine. hit radioshack the next day and picked up a 3ft composite...
i was spoiled by my dealer offering ~25% discounts without any hassle. shopping for other brands / at other stores isn't as satisfying these days. his trap worked :)
I've got an old kenwood vr-405 that I used one night with my studio20s. They sounded really lifeless compared to my denon 1802. Best if you can try it yourself, but I found the denon to be a big step up from the entry level kenwoods
I've had dropouts when using digital coax when a bathroom fan turns on or off, or flourescent lighting is turned on or off. It seems to throw out enough interference throughout the house that I lose the signal for moment. I had to go to optical cables.
I can't buy the argument that people shouldn't buy paradigm because they have some bad dealers. The argument should be to research your dealer first before buying. My own dealer offers incredible service and great pricing on paradigm and denon gear.
