    Projector: Which is Which

I'm not familiar with the models you are listing here. Are they "business" units? Gordon

New to projectors...any tips or advice?

Great advice! I stayed away from DLP for concerns that my wife is very sensitive to visual anamolies. She felt strain and got a headache from 15 min of watching a DLP-based rear projection TV. There is a bit of debate over the % of people who have problems with DLP. Estimates range from...

Frequency waterfall charts of a few familiar favourites

Wow! You guys are incredible!! You picked exactly the spots that KICK some bass! I can't believe how quickly y'all posted this! Thanks!! It's SO COOL to see charted what I've been hearing! I set my system up with tones down to 10zh (dangerous to do!) and don't believe in filters ;), so had...

Hey, I'm WITH you guys re:comparing levels of sources mixed and played back at differing levels! . Was thinking the same, but stayed lurking. It's all relative. Can anyone do "We Were Soldiers"? I used the "Broken Arrow" scene where the bombers were called in right on top of the command...

    Incredibles killed my sub

Hey BrentL! This is a factor that is rarely mentioned - Concrete floors and Bass effect. I ran into the same thing. I kept going for higher and higher levels to compensate - including the dreaded "Clack" of bottoming out to get the full "effect". I finally went totally overkill with a pair of...

    SVS owners.........

Kevin, You're just a short jog from me! I'm less than 5 min from the 222/30 interchange. C'mon over! PM me or email to [email protected] and we can hook up. I love to show off the Rockets. Did all the work yourself? Cool! Me too. Not too fancy, but it works. Maybe we can compare notes...

Yeah, Man!! I'm a serious Rocket Fan!! Beautiful and wonderfull sound. I have the original RS750's. Never got around to returning them for the Sig upgrade, which tweaks their hi-freq performance a bit. Gotta love the service and value from AV123 AND SVS. Both companies get all the thumbs up...

Hi JohnEF! Overkill is certainly relative. I ended up with PAIR of stacked Ultras in my 12x20x7' room. Pushing them with a Crown 2K amp (1k/sub). Love it! Pictured Here Gordon

The Rocket RS 750 Signature Speakers Are Here!!!!...

Frank, Great thread! Thanks for posting at av123. I haven't visted HTF for a while. Cool! Suggestion - get the risers for the 750's. These things open up a lot when you get the tweets up to ear level. Also- If you decide to go with Bigfoot (Yep- The RS200 center speaker) and the...

Edward's got that right, Kaj! I've got significant output somewhere under 16 (have not been able to really measure it properly), but at those freqs, it's more of a fluttering pressure than a sound. Any sound you DO hear is coming from the induced vibrations and rattles from your house! Gordon

Just Received my SVS PB2+; Realized I had a Boom Box

It's a loud "CLACK". Unmistakable from other room-shaking rattles/noises. Makes your hair stand on end. Don't ask me how I know this. :b Gordon

Thanks Steve'nn! Yeah, Sweeet Nancy is none to pleased that I posted the first shot, but, man, you've got to have FUN with this stuff!! ;) I was looking for the "big bass" with my system cranked to find it in the whale scene - nothing - and then it hit, enough to have me scrambing for...

Frequency waterfall charts of a few familiar favourites

What I find fascinating is how different folk's opinion of "where the low stuff is". There was a thread about Finding Nemo and a debate on where it was. One camp thought Darla tapping on the fish tank was IT. Another thought the whale scene was IT. I suppose this must be due to how different...

    Sub Placement and impact question

The Rane is a good unit. Getting it at cost is cool. What allows the BFD to be so inexpensive is that it's a DSP unit, so all filters are software-set in the digital domain. I would worry about the A/D and D/A for full-range high-end audio, but for sub EQ, it's a pretty cool solution IMO. Of...

New Klipsch RB-75 bookshelf speakers review

Thanks for the link! I've been looking for reviews of em. If they had been out just a couple months earlier, I'd have them in my HT now. No worries, as I'm very happy with what I ended up with. Congrats on your purchase! Very cool. Gordon

    Center Channel

Another vote for the Rocket line, starting with Bigfoot and building from there. Onix built an incredible HT speaker line and did it right- by building a center channel that is all that. Seriously. By starting with just that one, you can audition the Rocket offering and only risk the shipping...

I'm surprised no one is talking about the whale scene in Nemo. I thought it tromped all over the Darla bass! :)I had it cranked pretty loud and it scared me :b :D Gordon

FP is definitely for me; Have tons of questions!

You could consider a DaLite model C that is a self-contained rollup that you could hang the case from the ceiling in front of your RPTV. You could hang a homemade, but be careful with wrinkles and waves. Screens ARE a big part of PQ for a projector, so if you can swing a "real" one, it might...

FP is definitely for me; Have tons of questions!

Hi Mitch. yeah, the PLV-70 is "long throw". I don't know a lot about other options. You may want to visit www.avsforum.com and head to their "high end digital projectors over $3500" section. You'll find threads about the JVC unit and other options. I'm not sure if it is PC to refer someone to...

FP is definitely for me; Have tons of questions!

Right-On, Neil! Anothe great option for that size would be the JVC-?x21 Dila. It's got good brightness, great resolution and smoothness. Black levels are reported mediocre, though. The higher-resolution DLP's might be an option, but I'm not too familiar with them and light output at the size...

Slipshod way to calibrate a sub?

Get the meter and use the "free" test tones like Stephen recommended. It's next to impossible to use your ears at those frequencies. I know, I was running mine way to hot "by ear" for a while. Gordon
