Thanks for the input. I think I about have it figured out. I don't think I'm going to worry about the HDR as the standard isn't quite solidified. All my connections are high speed already. The few times I have as 4k hdr movie from oppo, I'll send the hdmi right to the projector. Everything else...
Velodyne calls their subs digital drive which is a digital amp as you reference. Since he might not have known about it, I chose not to confuse the subject and instead give a term that is used by Velodyne themselves that he can look into.
A great line available to you is Velodyne. They offer many sizes of subs with digital drivers. The digital drivers are on the more expensive side, but you could look for a well cared for used one. Good luck.
I'm thinking of stepping into 4K, but not sure what is happening when HDR is added to the content and how video/audio is passed (and what level audio) when streaming from Apple TV or Directv or my 4K Oppo. I have a 1080 TV, soon to be projector with 4k HDR and a 4K(non HDR preamp). Let's say I...
I've been pretty set on one brand of speaker since I started listening, Kef. My first pair with the Integra in the old house was the Reference 2~2s as fronts, RDMs on the rears and Velo for the sub. I'm pretty picky about the sound being clear at both high and low volumes and Kef seemed to do...
I've been using a DTR-8.2 in the family room since I bought it new and have been very happy with it. At the time, I compared Sony (way too bright) and Denon (close second, slightly warmer than Integra),but found the Integra to be the more open sounding and right for my speakers.
I was fortunate enough to be able to use both a Pioneer 47ai and an Integra 8.3 for an extended period. Both performed very well in most respects. What I could not take was the chroma bug. Both went back. If I were you, I would look for the best budget dvd player I could find that may also have...
After looking at many brands, I purchased Kef reference 2 series(not 200). The only other company that I thought was close was Thiel(2.3 at the time). Very similarly priced and sounding to Kef. The B&W (CDM9NT)after going back to the store a few times seemed to lack the energy that Kef and Thiel...
Mike_Thor, I think you will love your new Integra. They are one of the most neutral sounding receivers on the market. The power per channel issue is just talk. Listen and be amazed. The nice thing about a THX select receiver is that it has the same decoding chips as the THX ultra. The THX...
You should really test speakers with your music that your familiar with. The music should also be something that is comparable to what you listen to the speakers with a majority of the time. Take your time. Nuances between speakers are most apparent after listening to one pair for awhile then...
Kefs are known for a wide soundstage. They are brighter than some speakers but I dont think they are brighter than actual live music. Your comment about the resonating cabinet surprised me though. Kef is usually very good about not having that. Try placing a nickel on edge and see if it falls...
I am using the Integra 8.3 which I think is what you are referring to. I have not found a way to change groups on the front panel or by remote. But, the front display will show which group it is playing(seems to defer to dvd-audio when available not dts or dolby). It will also allow you to see...
I'm currently using Kef reference speakers. They are just a pleasure to listen to. They can appear overly bright with certain gear, ie sony normal line(not es). I use Integra (neutral sounding). When I bought mine, I compared them to Energy Veritas, Sonus Faber Grand Piano and B&W line (not...
I find that banana plugs work better when you have to swap equipment to test etc. If you connect with a spade and pull something out without disconnecting, you have yourself a tug of war. Bananas will pull out without damage to anything.
I believe that utilizing a line doubler image versus a progressive scan image are two very different things. Even with a line doubler, the television is still showing you an even field and an odd field. Whereas a progressive image is showing all the field at once. Unless you are scaling to...
I second the look at Onkyo(DV-SP800)/Integra(DPS-8.3). They are both built on a base Pioneer chassis but with slightly different characteristics. The timing on the component outs seem to have been correctd versus being off in the pioneer's(according to the Shootout). there is some talk starting...
Bill, Could you expand on all the combos you have tried? ie. digital out to digital in and results analog out to analog in and results swapping of cable and results
Stephen, I got to looking under the hood today. Power supply wire internal: 16gauge Power:has the same numbers as yours except two things SW2301532 TAM M0132 (Don't know relevance) Large filter cap:same numbers except Made for integra and N0124 repeated on one side Fan:Nider Beta SL...
Darryl, You are correct. The attached cord could be of the same quality as a detached. In general, all the attached power cords I've seen are no better than lamp cords. Interesting note. I'm borrowing a rotel cd changer this weekend. Same Kawasaki detachable power cord on my Integra 8.3 dvd...
The Integra line uses higher quality resistors and caps. Ask a service tech. The detachable power cord is of higher quality than any attached power cord. Ask the people who spend the money on custom cords. Same reason why you dont use 16 gauge wire to run to speakers. You use a higher gauge. All...
Again, I reiterate, If you like older Onkyo products, look to the Integra line to replace them. The quality is on a much better level. I think all manufacturers have kept original names that they ride on, then develop new higher quality lines as "flagship" products that actually represent what...
If you are interested in quality Onkyo products, I would like to suggest you look a little further up their product line to the Integra series. They are not as well known on these boards because they are not sold at online e-tailers. Local dealers will generally discount around 20%, again not...
The purpose of my post was to inform about many factors influencing my decision to buy and keep the Integra(Onkyo). Even over the poor rating from the Secrets Shootout. By the way, the Onkyo & Integra versions of this pioneer player do NOT suffer from the Y/C delay unlike their Pioneer...
I'm currently running the Integra 8.3 and found it to be a fantastic player. Yes, it has the cue. If this bothers you, then this is not the player for you. I thought for sure it was going back until I bought a Panasonic CP-72 and tested it. The panasonic doesnt have the cue but it also seems...
I'm no expert so correct me if I'm wrong. Sound is frequency. Frequencies combine together to make harmonics. These harmonics add to the overall characterics of the sound. Frequencies above 20khz combine with frequencies below 20khz and create harmonics which you CAN hear. This is supposed to...
