    Fanny & Alexander trailers missing?

The Criterion "Fanny & Alexander" 5-disc set is amazing, but the Web site and the back of the box indicate that there is a gallery of Bergman trailers on disc 5. I spent probably 15 minutes going through the disc every which way and can't find the trailers - am I missing something or did they...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Martin Scorsese Collection (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).

Hey Gil, great review of "Mean Streets!" I completely agree with you, it's one of Scorsese's best movies. Anyone looking to just buy "Goodfellas" should reconsider purchasing the whole set for this one title, and also for "After Hours." One small quibble - the voiceover at the beginning ("You...

Easy Rider 35th Anniversary Edition - worth buying?

I've got the original "Easy Rider" special edition, and looking at the specs for the new 35th anniversary edition it seems that it's just a repackaging with superfluous extras (a soundtrack CD and a BFI book). Is there any point in upgrading? A new transfer or is this just the same one? Thanks!

    "Rumble Fish" OOP?

I had "Rumble Fish" on back-order through DVD Empire and received an e-mail from them indicating it was no longer available. Does this mean an SE is on the way or should I snap up a copy wherever I can?

Warners Chat - LIVE Transcript Questions and Post Chat Discussion

OK, granted, Fearless was not a box office behemoth and is not going to be the top-selling DVD of all time, and the voices of a few cineastes at the Home Theater Forum are no bellwether for public opinion. I'd even concede a 2-disc special edition is not necessary, just give me the movie on a...

Warners Chat - LIVE Transcript Questions and Post Chat Discussion

Limiting my question to just one film was a tough decision, and then they tell me there are no plans for an OAR DVD! Ah well, a ton of great info was revealed anyway, and it was a great chat. If you look at the 2-disc special edition request thread, though, you'll see there are a lot of people...

Warner Brothers 2-disc DVD Survey + complete 3/8/04 Live Chat Transcript

Is "Point Blank" a Warner Bros. title? If so add my vote, it's one of the great films of the '60s and should be on DVD in OAR! My wishlist (never on DVD): Point Blank The Passenger Night Moves O Lucky Man! Petulia Ride the High Country The Magnificent Ambersons The Butcher Boy A...

Free MGM DVD: How long after check clears does it take?

Does anyone have the phone number for MGM customer service? I sent my check on August 14, it is now October 7 and the check hasn't even been cashed yet. Am I being too hasty or should I be worried? The offer I mailed in for was MGM SE DVD Offer 3710. If anyone has the phone number I'd really...

Used DVDs - what to do?

I've been collecting DVDs since 1997, and since those fond years of limited selection, when I'd purchase a film I kinda liked just to have something on DVD, my taste has changed considerably. I've recently done some 'house cleaning' by watching all those movies I wasn't sure I really wanted in...

    Any Classic Film Recommendations?

Not knowing your taste in films, it's difficult to make recommendations, but if you're open to watching subtitled movies (or speak Japanese) then Kurosawa is a great choice. I'd recommend "Seven Samurai" or "Yojimbo." "The Bridge on the River Kwai" forms a natural sort of companion to "Lawrence...

Night Moves - come on Warners...

Yeah, what's going on with this film? This is definitely among my most anticipated titles to get on DVD, but there isn't even an entry on Amazon's Web site to request it! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a very popular film, but I think it's among the best movies of that era. Anyone know if...

New Cover Art - Monty Python & Holy Grail (CE)

Brief, but to the point. I'll stick with the copy I've got.

    The Conformist ?

Are there any updates on the status of "The Conformist?" I've been dying to see this film for years now, can't seem to find a rental store with a copy either. Anybody know where I can rent this in the L.A. area? Don't have a laserdisc player so would have to be on VHS.... Thanks!

    Ali: Director's Cut

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but in today's Hollywood Reporter it states that the MPAA gave an R rating to "Ali: Director's Cut" to Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. Anyone know any additional info about this? I assume this means we'll see it on DVD soon.

New Cover Art - Monty Python & Holy Grail (CE)

If they don't I'll be severely disappointed. $50 for yet another version of the film? I love the movie, but there had better be a good reason to upgrade.... Are you listening, Columbia?

"Hiroshima, Mon Amour" and "Ali - Fear Eats the Soul"

I got shot down for asking about a review of the new "Manhunter" DVD, as I didn't remember the search feature. Well, I used the search feature and found out the details on that release, but couldn't find any reviews of "Hiroshima, Mon Amour" or "Ali - Fear Eats the Soul." Can some kind-hearted...

"New" CABARET - Whats the difference? Answer: none (MERGED THREAD)

Just read on The Digital Bits about the Warner Bros. "Cabaret" announcement (with new box art). It looks like this is coinciding with "Chicago" coming out on DVD, but it doesn't say if this is simply a reissue with different art or a new release (if so, hopefully with a new transfer!). Anyone...

    MGM announcements - questions

Just read on DVDFile and The Digital Bits about the new MGM DVDs coming out in the next several months. Unfortunately there's not much detail for some of the films. "Images" - is this the Robert Altman film from the '70s? IMDB lists it as a Columbia release. I assume "Eureka" is the Nicolas Roeg...

    Cassavetes on DVD

Over the past couple of years I've had the pleasure of introducing myself to several of the films of John Cassavetes (my favorites so far are "The Killing of a Chinese Bookie" and "Faces"). The Pioneer DVD releases are all full frame, however, while the Anchor Bay release of "Minnie and...

    "Nosferatu" and "Intolerance"

At the moment I've only got a couple of silent films on DVD ("The Passion of Joan of Arc" and "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari"), but I'd like to purchase Murnau's "Nosferatu" and Griffith's "Intolerance." Things have become awfully complicated lately with two versions of "Intolerance" on the market...

    Warner Bros. flipper discs

I don't mean to be picky, but not coming from the LaserDisc side of things I prefer to have the whole film on one side of a disc (except when not possible without sacrificing quality, as in "Gone with the Wind" or "Lawrence of Arabia"). I held off on purchasing "Goodfellas" for a while because...

    FEARLESS (Peter Weir)

Any idea if we'll see a widescreen version of "Fearless" coming out anytime soon? I've been reluctant to purchase the P&S version on principle. Why oh why did Warner Bros. choose to make this a P&S release?

    Video projector for larger venue

Neil - Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know the exact dimensions of the screen, to be honest, but as a guess I'd say 15' x 12' or thereabouts. The source would be a standard DVD player, so it doesn't need to be HD. Thanks again. Best, Matt

    Video projector for larger venue

Hi all. I'm trying to find out how much a video projector of adequate quality (not top-of-the-line, but adequate) would cost that would be suitable for, say, a 120-seat venue. I know very little about video projectors, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
