Incredible contest, thanks HTF!
We have an unfinished basement just waiting to get started, and my plan is to make it Atmos-capable with built-in ceiling speakers for 2 rows. Winning this beast as the heart of the new system would put us a lot closer to starting, and would make an absolutely...
Looks like DVD Spot worked out for me, I have most of my movies up there now, and might even add a few of the ones that aren't in their database. Thanks for the tips everyone!
Well, I've signed up at DVDSpot and started to populate based on memory. I'll have to figure out how to direct link to my profile... Testing in my sig.
I just found DVDspot (www.dvdspot.com) which seems to fit the bill quite well, does anyone use it? Naturally I'd find a good one right AFTER I make a post. :frowning:
I've been looking around for a decent online catalog for my DVDs, and I can't quite find what I'm looking for. I know someone here will have the answer, so after searching and coming up empty, I'm hoping I posted in the best forum. What I really want is something simple, that can be accessed...
There's also the TC Sounds TC2000 or TC3000 (www.tcsounds.com). Someone created a chart with most of the major subs in a $/Litre displacement-for-the-buck format, but I can't remember where it was. Someone else will probably know.
That is a pretty tight budget, and will be tough to get what he wants, especially new. You might have some luck on ebay or on the forums where there's a buy & sell section. Otherwise he might want to move down to an 8" or a 10" woofer that would work with one of then smaller 100 watt amps. If...
I'm no expert, but I'd think a rumble filter at 28 or 35Hz would be pretty counterproductive in a subwoofer application. Generally, they are applied (I think) to protect the driver from overexcursion at the very low frequencies, and are basically a bit of equalization built in to roll off...
Yeah, that's where I saw it, I just figured since it didn't come up in a search over here I'd post the link. The DIY'ers seem to have moved, but you never know there still might be a few stragglers who haven't caught up yet. I'm still just a lurker in one or two of the other ones myself. And...
I ran across a link to these today and thought there might be a few people interested in them. For CDN$60.00 they look like a few of them might make a great low budget IB? http://www.mach5audio.com/product_in...b5fda3922ce62a
I wouldn't expect anything less from someone on the forums. :) Whatever you do end up with, I'm sure you will love it, and remember to post and tell us all about it.
John, I don't know if you have a dealer in mind, but I pop into Brack Home Entertainment every once in a while to ogle equipment and I've chatted to a few of their salespeople about the Rotel gear. They have (or did last time I was in) some nice listening rooms set up and would be worth a trip...
Check out the local Home Depot or whatever and see if they have small diameter sonotube. I ended up using a piece of this to get a 5.5" port on my sub. It's not a ton smaller than a 6", but it will give you a little more room to play with. IIRC they had a bunch of sizes, in between 4 - 8 or so.
I put this list together last summer, of the bigger driver contenders at the time, mostly based on info from the forums, and I'm not sure how many are still active in the market. For a while it looked like there was going to be some serious competition, but it seems things have faded out a bit...
Sounds like you should be in good shape, I've heard nothing but good things about those M&K's. And at least with your Denon the 80 watts you are getting are probably pretty clean. I love mine and will hang onto it until I move up to seperates I think.
Derek, that's great, I'm glad you're happy with the Tempest. Sounds like you're doing exactly what I did, and getting too excited to finish the box, too. :) Mine was in the room as raw MDF for a while, but it was worth it to hae my project brought to life. Can't wait to see the pics. Out of...
I think mine is a combination of the rumble filter, and the tune. I was going to disable the rumble filter, but with my box tuned to 19 Hz, it would quickly unload below that frequency, so I am going to keep it. If I had tuned lower I could remove it without worrying too much.
You might want to tune lower for HT, especially if you're going to plug the ports for music. My Tempest (210L) is tuned to 19 and the one thing I'd change if I did it again is tune lower to probably around 15Hz. I start to roll off a little too early, and am not helped much by the 19Hz rumble...
Jesse, I'm glad you like the idea, I really wanted to see how Brett's turned out but I don't know if he ever finished them. I know with carbon and everything it would be pretty costly (and complicated) but you can still do it in a more simple, subdued silver/black/gun metal combo, or something...
If you're convinced you want to go with paint, have a quick look at this old thread. http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=171107 I remember Brett DiMichele was looking for interesting ways to finish a DIY speaker project, and I think it was leaning towards nice glossy automotive...
Ryan, you could do like I did and just leave the Vegas in as your main L & R channels and have them set to "large" for a little while, if you really feel you need the bass. Then in a little while you can put together the money to get your sub project going. Actually IIRC, Parts Express has a...
Joe, your Tempest's response looks great. I wish I had tuned mine lower. I guess I will just compensate with a bit more EQ since I don't really have any more placement options. Derek, is there anyone you know who is more comfortable with electronics that could do the rumble filter mod for...
That sounds like it could work really well for you Derek. I would recommend that you do lower the rumble filter to 12Hz, and tune your enclosure low. My amp starts stealing my subsonic bass, which makes it hard to even compensate for with EQ, but if yours kicked in at 12Hz, I think that's a very...
Derek, here is a graph of my sub's in room respones before (blue) and after (orange) calibration with my BFD. It starts to roll off around 25Hz or so, but the severity of the drop is probably due to the 19Hz centered rumble filter in my Adire AVA250 amp. I had thought about defeating...
