My wife wants a Bose Wave Radio

Send her a link to this thread, then buy her the Cambridge and be done with it!:D

My wife wants a Bose Wave Radio

After auditioning both, I'd choose the Cambridge over the Bose. Both are priced higher than they should be for what they are, but you're paying a higher premium for the Bose simply because it has 'Bose' stamped on it! The Cambridge is the far better deal of the two in my opinion. Other's may vary!

Newbie question - RP LCD's vs. RP CRT's

One of the main bones of contention with the currently available LCD displays on the market is their lack of ability to produce a true black. One of the most important abilities for a display device to reproduce a good film-like image is the ability to reproduce good black levels. This is what...

    Unbiased CRT vs DLP.

As far as I know, there are no current DLP projectors capable of displaying a native 1080P image. TI's DLP chip capable of such a resolution, the xHD3, is not in any consumer projector yet. But, if you can hold out a little while, I would tout that as a better projector than a CRT for the common...

    Loewe vs. DLP

The Loewe is an excellent display, but the image size may leave you wanting more depending on your seating distance. James

    Why get TVs?

Sacha, It's great that a projector works for your room. However, in terms of picture quality, the X1 single chip DLP projector projecting a 50" image on a Stewart Firehawk is still not going to look as good as my RPTV, especially when viewing HDTV programming. Granted a combination X1 and...

    Why get TVs?

Here's another point while I'm at it. In my room, my maximum viewing distance is about 9 feet, which equates to about a 45" recommended screen size for optimum viewing. That is based on numerous optimum screen size formulae. I have a 50" display now, and it is on the verge of being too...

    Why get TVs?

If I had a dedicated room for my H/T (in the future I will), I would not hesitate to go the FP route, as it is, in my opinion, the best way to recreate a movie theater environment IF one has the funds. For me, spending any less than $5000 on a FP system yields a sub-par FP system. Outboard...

Pioneer SD643 HD5, Pull the trigger?

Pull it! Pull it! You will be happy going the Pioneer route, and the now infamous streaking problem is not a problem in the non-Elite line. Get it while you can!

    Why get TVs?

My $3000 Pioneer Elite RPTV looks better than any $3000 front projector/screen combo I've seen. To accommodate FP in my home I'd have to get an acoustically transparent screen, adding $1000 or more to my purchase. Just wasn't feasible or worth the price for me at this point. In the future...

Which $3K Pre/Pro would you buy???

If the purchase must be made soon, I'd also go with Anthem AVM20, as their product support has been exemplary.

    Unshielded - Safe Distance?

I'm using unshielded Paradigm Studio 100's and they reside about 8 inches from the sides of my Pioneer Elite 53" CRT RPTV. Not the best location for imaging, but there is no adverse effect on my display. James

Need suggestions for good inexpensive DVD player

If you're willing to invest around $180, the Pioneer DV-563A is a no-brainer. It is relatively inexpensive, but for what if offers, it is the best value out there. Progressive scan, SACD, DVD-Audio, and most other recordable formats are supported. Recent reviews were very positive, and as...

Best 16:9 RPTV for under $2000

Frank, For less than $2000, I would say the Pioneer SD533-HD5 is the best deal. It can be had for around $1700, and it is an excellent RPTV. Look up the reviews. I've watched the set many times and it provided a great picture. I'm still deciding between it and a Hitachi 51", but the Hitachi...

    Quick perception poll on brands

The question is too broad, as there are too many display types to rank the brands in order without considering a specific technology in the equation. One brand's LCD may best another's LCD, but their CRT's may be vice versa. Ranking the brands based on CRT RPTV quality the order would be...

What RPTV to buy for under $1800?

The Pioneer SD-533HD5 50" is extremely close to your range and would be worth the little extra, in my opinion.

DLP vs. LCD - The Discussion Thread that Combines Them ALL

Dan, I have heard that Sony requires 20 dead pixels to warrant repair work under warranty, but that was on one of their first largescreen LCD displays. The number of dead pixels necessary may be less with newer version of their displays. Regarding dithering: Dithering is a digitization...

What are the limitations of a Plasma?

The lifespan for a plasma is not a definite number in years. Over time the plasma display's brightness will diminish from it's original brightness, but the time frame for this to occur depends on your viewing habits (2 hours a day, 6 hours a day, etc). Realistically you should plan on getting...

DLP vs. LCD - The Discussion Thread that Combines Them ALL

Good points were made by David, and they are exactly why I went with the Pioneer Pro-530HDI CRT instead of a newer technology. Well, technically, I haven't gone with it yet. I'll be purchasing it in Nov. before the $500 rebate expires. Arguably, a properly calibrated CRT rear projection has a...

DLP vs. LCD - The Discussion Thread that Combines Them ALL

I'm afraid that when it comes to someone's comments on which format offers the best picture you will only recieve subjective opinions based, sometimes loosely, on definitive evidence. Most of your demands would be better served by a DLP, in my opinion, but it has it's limitations as well...

Scratch in center channel during high pitch sound

Dylan, After installing my new system about a year ago (Paradigm speakers and Anthem separates), I found myself hearing the same thing. There are certain DVD's where the dialog will sound that way because the recording is flawed. There is distortion recorded on the DVD. As Kwang said, the...

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

Mike, I have yet to see one at my local BB, and I was there yesterday. I ordered mine from Crutchfield, and the service was great. 2 to 3 day arrival if they have them in stock. I'm not sure about any other stores where the unit can be purchased locally. I have heard of others getting...
