I have been enjoying our Denon 1803 for a few years now. This past week, my wife pushed some buttons, not sure which, nor if that is what resulted in this happening or if it was just coincidence. With the Optic 1 input set to DVD in the Setup screens, and a working until now optic cable plugged...
Debbie and I have the 12" Sony SAWM40 120 watt subwoofer stuffed with just under a pound of polyfill. We set the 1803 at 80db for the crossover. All speakers are set as Small in the Denon, and the SW is set at Normal. On the subwoofer itself, we set the crossover wide open so it plays everything...
Dave, take a look here:
http://home.columbus.rr.com/jetersne...samw40faq2.htm
I followed these instructions, takes about 10 minutes, a very simple job. Found Polyfil for about $2 a bag at Michaels, a craft/hobby store here in southern California. About 3/4 of a 1 pound bag actually filled...
Sorry Phil, but even though I am a newbie to the world of HT, I have to disagree. Our S-Center sounds just fine with our N38II fronts and N24II surrounds ... no horrible clashing of sounds between the different lines, nor teling that they are different. The S-Center, with it's four drivers and...
Rob, we have a Denon 1803 complimented with the JBL S-Center, N38II fronts, and N24II surrounds. The S-Center does have a 1" Titanium tweeter as opposed to the 3/4" Titanium Laminate tweeters on the N series. It also has 4 drivers instead of the N-Center's 3 drivers, having the addition of a...
That's it ... we ARE done, complete, have the system we are sticking with .. all the final pieces. The Sony SA-WM40 subwoofer was the final step. The bags of fiberfill are sitting behind me, under my office desk, and will go into the subwoofer this coming weekend. The final system is: Denon...
Adam, my wife and I are also new to HT. We said that my wife's ears are plenty good for matching the speakers as she has very sensitive ears. Mine are lost causes. But with her great ears, we figured we didn't have to spend more money for fancy meters when we already spent too much on the other...
Hahaha Jeff .... When I get stuck in gridlock I sure do .... and to correct any who still think the saying goes "Music soothes the savage beast" ... it really is "Music soothes the savage breast" really .. the below is quoted from a trivia quiz answer page: "12. Who wrote "Music...
Thank you, Derek. Actually, it was all Debbie's idea right from the start. Our 18 Year old Zenith was biting the dust and we needed a replacement. Debbie was into the surround system the whole time. My major contribution / difficulty... was convincing her that 32 inches was NOT too big. She...
Geoff, thank you ... and also all those who helped us get there. I made a slight change to the previous post at Debbie's request. Regarding the Klipsch center, and her reminder about how it rated. It's rather amazing that we have learned a whole new vocabulary, and feel part of a whole new world...
Geoff, the TV is inside a big hole in the entertainment center. The center channel speaker sits on top of the TV. Scenerio #2. However, one of the first suggestions we ran into was to swap speakers to eliminate the speaker itself as a possible cause. In fact, that was Onkyo's technical support...
Aaron, when we first heard the speakers, they were connected to the same receiver we started with, the Onkyo TX-SR600. However, it was in a large store, and the volume was set pretty high playing LOTR. When we got them home though, with the initial Onkyo 600 we had bought, the dialog sounded...
We have tried the Denon 1803, the Onkyo TX-SR600, and the Yamaha 630 in house using JBL S-Center, N38II Fronts, and N24II Surrounds. The 1803 has the clearest sound of the 3. The Yamaha was reasonably clear, but harsh sounding, too bright I believe is the term in HT. The Onkyo, was a bit clearer...
Parker, the one thing Debbie insists on is buying the receiver locally. She'll order the speakers online, but wants the opportunity to carry in the receiver to the local Good Guys for service if need be.
