OK, thought I'd update the list on this saga. Turns out that lowering the gain does very little to remove the hum. I also used my old Monster sub RCA cable to see if the hum was indeed caused by the wiring, and upon hook up, it was gone! Using the good sub wire eliminated the hum completely...
Well, stopped by HD last night on the way home and picked up a cheater plug. The humming was reduced tremendously. I actually thought that it had eliminated it entirely, but then realized that there was still a hum when I shut down the system (sub is on constant on due to the amps inability to...
David-S, I thought of that, but I don't have cable. We're exclusively Dish Network, and I believe that the dish is grounded at the point of entry to the attic (I'll have to double check that one!). Antony
Hi all, Here's the history: built a beautiful end-table enclosure to Adire ported specs for a Dayton DVC 12, and am using the PE250 plate amp. Everything sounded great! (Was using a 16 foot Monster sub cable). Then everything went into storage while we moved into our new house. The...
Thanks everyone. Joe Hsu, sorry, at the time of building my brother borrowed our digital camera for a trip. So I only have 2 other pix, one of the underside without amp and sub, and one of the inner braces as seen through the sub hole. I really just followed the blueprints provided on the...
Many thanks to Allen Ross for hosting the pix for me. Here they are: http://www.umit.maine.edu/~David_Ross/sub/1.jpg http://www.umit.maine.edu/~David_Ross/sub/2.jpg Like I said in my earlier posting, this is a Dayton DVC12 with a PE 250W amp and 4" flared port. It was built to Adire...
I know that has been discussed before, but I cannot find the thread searching the archives. I just got my sub built (and love it). The only problem is that my PE 250W amp doesn't turn on when in AUTO mode when watching Dish or DVD's at low volume. I understand that the turn on senses...
Hello Everyone, Thought I'd share some pix of my sub! I gathered the parts back in November, but had to put the project on hold to get the house ready for sale. Now that it's on the market, I got my wife's approval to work on MY stuff. It's a Dayton 12DVC with the PE 250W plate amp and 4"...
Hello all, After seeing how well my Shiva sub enclosure is coming together, I have started to think about other projects that I can build. Right now, my HT set up consists of the M&K 750THX L/C/R trio powered by a Pioneer Elite 45TX (and no, I have not experienced any shut down issues with...
Thanks for the suggestions. I guess it's time to do some drywall patching. That was actually my first impulse, but was looking for an easier way out. I know the wife is not going to like it when she gets home to see me doing all of that drywall stuff ;) Oh well. So my side surrounds (am going...
Hello all, this is a re-post from the DIY section since I didn't receive any responses. I'm a bit confused about my current surround set-up. I'm running the M&K 750THX fronts (L/C/R), and am using some cheap (Nutone?) in-walls (6" mid/1" tweet) mounted in the ceiling. These were already...
Hi all, I've finally received all of the parts for making my first HT sub (I've built many for cars over the years). I'm planning a ~3 cu ft vented enclosure (Adire Alignment) for a DVC 12 powered by a PE250 amp, using a 4" flared port tuned to about 23Hz. Last night my wife pulled the...
I've been running the M&K 750THX system (4ohms each) on my new Elite 43TX (granted not the power, etc of a 49TXi, but also not rated down to 4ohms). I simply set the unit to 6ohms, and listened away. After my first night of prolonged movie watching, I noticed that the unit was much warmer...
Sorry for the smiles. Didn't mean to insert them. I started the reply before a meeting, then clicked the mouse to send (not knowing that the cursor was over the smiles).
Hello,
I've owned a 43TX for about a month now, and love it! It replaced my ProLogic-only Denon AVR-2000 (so really, anything would have been an improvement for movies).
I debated long and hard between the Denon 4802, Denon 3803, or the Elite series. After doing a side-by-side audition of...
That's a beatiful enclosure Jack. Makes me start to reconsider my original finishing plan!! Quick question, do you think I should use a PR rather than venting?
OK, here's one last question for anyone with experience. Since I've now ordered the Dayton DVC, and am planning on using a 250W amp in the box described above, would I suffer any disadvantage in sound/output by having the driver "front-firing" rather than "down-firing"?
Thanks again. That was exactly my conclusion. I just finished placing the order (checked out @ 5:53pm EST !!). I do have a few more questions for you (since you have the same driver), but they could be asked and answered privately. Antony
Thanks for all of your replies. Ryan, I was actually planning on the Adire alignment vented. I didn't realize that the sub and bracing took up so much volume. I could probably increase overall dimensions by an inch all the way around. My target is approx. 3 cu ft of net volume without...
Hello everyone, It's time for me to start planning my DIY sub. I was originally planning a Shiva in the Adire vented alignment (will be about 89.25L internal volume without taking into consideration volume of bracing and driver) using an AVA250 plate amp. The above is all due to size...
I agree with you both. I just added that part in because I see so many people referring to listening to reference levels. Comfortably, I usually listen at around -25 or so (when the baby's awake, that is).
Hello, I picked up a 45TX 2 weeks ago, and already had the M&K 750THX main speakers (all 4 ohm). So far, with the AVR set to 6 ohms rather than 8 ohms, I've not experienced any problems. I do have a 120mm computer cooling fan built in to the entertainment unit housing the AVR, though. Also...
Well, technically I could mount 1 or more subs in the ceiling, using the space between the floors of the house for the IB, but I'm not a huge fan of IB installs. I even entertained the idea of tearing a good 6 foot section of drywall out of the ceiling and mounting a custom MDF box between the...
Hello, I'm relatively new to the forum, but really enjoy reading everyone's responses. Here's my problem: I'm running no sub, and seriously need one. My wife doesn't want anything "visible" in her living room (my HT). Our system: Pioneer Elite 43TX running M&K 750THX L/C/R with in-ceilings...
