I remember how it used to seem like it took forever for a film to go from the box office to home video. Then, there was a period of time in which it could only be rented before finally going on sale. I have a few questions about this: 1. How long did it used to take in VHS infancy (1980's) to go...
I haven't watched the whole disc, but I did notice, in the first "episode", the background seemed to have a faint flicker or pulse. I don't believe it's my display, because I don't find this phenomenon on any other discs. The pulsing stops when I pause the movie. I'm using a PS3 & Samsung...
No, it will not pass 5.1. The HDCP handshake tells the output devices (DirecTV HD Tivo and Denon DVD-1920) that the input device (Sammy) is stereo (2-channel), therefore only stereo is delivered. It will pass 5.1 from the built-in ATSC tuner, though.
When you initially described it, it sounded like possibly a bad cable. Are you using HDMI or component? The vertical lines may be a result of your poking around the internals. If they almost look like a big bar code, then it's likely a board problem. Sometimes it's temporary, as in a result...
This thread is great! As you can see by my post-count, I'm a lurker (albeit, long-time lurker), and I just found this thread. Definetly made me laugh! Mike, since so much time has passed, surely you're ready to upgrade anyways. I mean, you'll be saving money on rent, right? Just playing...
My HLN packaging had an insert that addressed the normal "feeble sound" that may emanate from the set. In fact it has 3 fans. Many variables contribute to whether or not you'll be disturbed by the sound: distance, ambient sounds from your home or home theater (hard drive of DVR, refridgerator...
I have the Samsung HLN617W. It's recently developed the "whinning noise" which is apparently indicative of a color wheel problem. I have an extended service plan through Circuit City. They authorized repair to some shop with which I am not familiar. After many delays (the repair shop kept losing...
I've seen those (I actually use 'em for my surrounds), but I really need something that comes off the wall a little further. That's why I was talking about a "2-joint" arm. You know, like plasma mounting brackets...
I have an Infinity CC-3 center channel speaker. The weight is 16 lbs. Placing the speaker on top of my Samsung HLN617W is currently accomplished by wedging a Macallan 18yr (scotch) box under the speaker. (Heheheh). I really want a wall mount solution. I would love to find a wall-mount...
I have this player. Circuit City price-matched Sears (of all places) for $159, so I took the plunge. Pic quality is great on my Samsung 61" DLP (HLN617W) using DVI. The HD841 does have issues with DTS formats: there are occasional brief (

I'll bet the difference you're hearing is the compression that is inherent with surround formats... The audio format of the trailer is probably different from that of the feature. The trailer is probably Dolby Digital 2.1, where the movie is probably 5.1. I could be wrong, but I think that...
I'm about to take the plunge and purchase a 61" Samsung DLP RPTV Model HLN617W. This is at the upper end of my budget for a TV, but I currently have a 7 year-old Toshiba CF36G40 (36" 4:3 CRT), so it's time for an upgrade. I've heard good reviews both regarding the "HD2" technology and this...
My DVD player's digital audio out is optical. It does not have component video out, only S-Video. (I had to modify this post, removing the link to a pic, so I hope you can envision this...) The place for DVD inputs has S-Video with analog audio inputs grouped with it.The receiver's digital audio...
