Nice system Jason, congratulations and enjoy! Thanks for sharing. People need to know there are a number of really wonderful and magical alternatives to the small handful of well marketed and distributed brands that get the usual recommendations. And I agree that it is really a plus to be able...
I still don't have my own HT, but so watch quite a few movies at a couple of different buddies theaters. Most of the time we listen at -15 to around -10 At full reference, they just seem too loud.
Miles, I own a Titan and have a friend with a Force. He let me have the Force in my home for about 2 months. During that time we made many comparisons. Conclusion, they both sound equally excellent, the Titan just goes a bit louder. I've tried listening to subs by themselves but hate it. Just...
I've read that approx. 70-80% of most movie's content is center channel. Me, I'd get a great set of mains from a manufacturer that offers a good center to match. For me, music listening is still the main priority and you don't need a center for that, but you certainly need the mains. You can...
This is probably the first time I've ever read anything about poor service from AV123. Sounds like you were a victim of Murphy's law on this one. That doesn't help when you're waiting for a sub and "hanging". The fact that Mark personally jumps on it so hard is why I really love buying direct...
If the size constraint is an important issue you might want to also give the ACI Force a test spin. It is around the size of the James but a lot less money and having heard it a lot, I love the sound quality. It can move a surprising amount of air for the size. The bigger SVS I'm sure can out...
If you like the Sonus Fabers you really should check out the ACI line of speakers. I was a happy Concerto owner but found the ACI Sapphire III LE to be a very significant upgrade in a number of ways. Every ACI speaker I've heard has been wonderfully musical. Their lineup is such that could could...
Here's a link to the ideal setups: http://www.dolby.com/Consumer/HomeEntertainment/Setup/ You want to stay as close to the ideal as you can given typical room contraints. For example, I do think you want your rears to be quite a way behind you whether they are in the ceiling or in the rear...
A friend of mine ordered the Elts from ACI. He got free shipping AND they have a better warranty. He really loves the system. I've heard it, and it is really pretty amazing. Of course they have the 30 day money back warranty, but I don't think you'll need it;)
A system with five ACI Emeralds is really sweet. A former friend (that's another story) has that setup and it is really a blast to listen to. does a great job with music and HT.
I'll second the Emerald On wall recommendation. I've heard them, and they are really amazing. They also come in a variety of real woods, and look great!
Just to be argumentative, I'd probably never buy another pair of speakers from a B&M outlet. When you get the speakers home, they rarely sound anything like they did in the store. You have to pay them for their part of the deal, and from my experience, a lot of B&Ms make returns into a bigger...
Anything with plastic cabinets. Anything that is more marketing than sound. Anything I can't try at home. Anything sold-pushed by salespeople I don't like.
I enjoyed the movie in a theater. Thought the sound was only so so. Of course all the sound in that theater is so so at best. Looking forward to hearing it for real :)
Thanks Eric. I've never heard any of the Jaguars but I bet they are superb. I had a chance to hear Talismans about a year ago and I've had a case of severe lust and I've been saving my dimes and nickles ever since :)
Eric: Any reason you decided to go with the Titan instead of the LFMs with your Jaguars? Just curious (and jealous). Mike D: I like your newest newsletter. I think it is the best yet although I missed the recommended recordings section. You've created a better look with this newest...
I've always thought the Aerial was the sub I'd want if I had a really big room and money was no object, this might be very terrific competition at about 1/2 the cost. BTW, that sure ain't an amp on a chip, looks more like the guts of a Krell or something similar :D
The other thing you might want to do is check with the manufacturer. What is the warranty period? If it was three years and you're just past it, they may be willing to help you out. It might be worth it to them just to do something "extra" and have a happy customer instead of an irate customer...
What a bummer! If you calibrated your system, 0 db would be reference level which is pretty darn loud, at least to me. It sounds like it may be blown driver. If the driver is shorted it could be causing the amp to keep blowing fuses. Might save you money to do some troubleshooting yourself...
I agree with Brian, ACI should get more credit. They are certainly one of the original and real leaders in factory direct for audiophiles. Not only that, they build absolutely wonderful products. I spent a lot of time auditioning and trying subs before finally keeping the Titan. Frankly, in the...
I was checking into this a month or so ago. The consensus seems to be that the rears (I'm planning on 7.1) should be at the same height as the other surrounds.
Triad makes what are considered great sounding custom inwall speakers. Looks like ACI is also starting to get into that business: http://www.audioc.com/speakers/Custom/intro.htm
