Official Playstation 3 Blu-Ray player Thread

I just picked up a 60gb sat. Was checking Best buy and Circuit City nada, I went into Target on a whim and bam! 10 of them sitting behind the counter in the electronics dept. I have it hooked up to my Sanyo Z5 and have watched "into the blue" & "Ice age the meltdown" I thought they looked...

    HDMI 1.3 not firmware upgradeable!

Frank@N, I believe you would need both C & D. If I understand the article correctly the 1.3 chipsets will be able to pass the new audio codecs. I dont think the upgrade to 1.3 has to do with the video portion of the signal. There is another post about the release of 1.3 you might want to...

    HDMI 1.3 not firmware upgradeable!

Right now I just dont see the point in going HD if You are going to get the advanced sound codecs. I guess I am waiting until its all sorted out. The whole "one cable" solution that is supposed to be HDMI doesnt make sense to me. Since my display is just that a display why do I need to feed my...

Any good 18" drivers available at reasonable price?

"Mark: Thanks for the email. The Assault series will not be offered. The reason is that the Assassin series was able to do what the Assault series was going to do and for a lot less money. Dale Kuypers Ascendant Audio" There is the email I recieved when I asked about the assault...

Any good 18" drivers available at reasonable price?

"That's too bad. I wonder if manufacturers are steering away from 18s because the recent 15 inchers can move so much air." I am not sure. What really struck me as odd was in Dale's email he stated that the assassin line was better than they expected so they weren't persuing the assault...

Any good 18" drivers available at reasonable price?

If you are referring to Ascendant Audio's assault series it isn't going to happen at all. I contacted them awhile ago and recieved a response from Dale stating that they pulled the plug on the assualt series altogether.

    Good musical sub plans?

Andrew, There is a servo kit you could get from rythmikaudio.com. I haven't personally heard it but if you look/search over at HTguide.com you should come up with a couple of people you could contact. I have built a sealed 15" using a parts express Quattro 15" and a rythmikaudio basic 250 amp...

    Any HiFonics amp owners here?

Jacob*c, Thanks for the response! The BX1500D is one of the amps I am looking at though I am not sure I need that much power. Yeah I have read about the amps not putting out the rated power. From what I have read they put out pretty close to rated power. I figure I can pick one up for about...

    Any HiFonics amp owners here?

I was wondering if anyone here has or is using the Hifonics Brutus series amplifiers? I am looking for a reasonably priced 1 ohm stable amp for powering subs. The brutus series look nice for around 280.00-380.00 depending on model. They range from 500x1 @1 ohm to 1500x1 @ 1 ohm.Probably only...

Anyone have experience w/ LT circuits?

ThomasW, Thanks for the reply. Well I guess I am SOL as I don't have any measuring gear other than a rat-shack meter. :frowning: How much would it cost for a measuring/testing set-up?

Help choosing woofer and tweeter for DIY project

AscendantAudio has thier new MT kits on sale for $99.00ea. Don't know if that is what you are looking for. There isn't allot of info on the site right now as they are in the process of updating it. You could give them a call to get the details.

Anyone have experience w/ LT circuits?

Alright I downloaded John Murphy's LT excel sheet. If any of you have used it I have a couple questions. 1.In the notes section it asks for the F and Q of the exsisting closed box speaker. This is the Q of the box and Fb or F3, correct? Would Unibox's calculations be good enough? Or is...

Chris T, Thanks for the link.I checked it out and I have to admit it was a little overwhelming.:b Going to have to look at that some more and read and re-read. Its allot to take in.

Anyone have experience w/ LT circuits?

Thanks for the link Chris! I also found a excel spread sheet at John Murphy's web site. The only problem is the rythmik audio LT has a 2nd op amp in it so I guess I'll have to contact them to see how to calculate that part of it. rythmik LT Looks like the spread sheets will do the first...

Anyone have experience w/ LT circuits?

I have a couple of Atlas 15" subs I would like to try one out sealed but the recommended cabinets are quite big like 6 cu.ft. I was wondering if I could get one of these bad boys in a 3cu.ft. cabinet with a LT circuit. I was looking at the Rythmik Audio site and one of the amps the 350 is...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

Greg, I am under the impression that you think the only (serious) HT's are THX certified. Is that what you think or am I misunderstanding you? I'm not trying to aggravate anyone. Just curious you mentioned in a earlier post that you prefer compression horn speakers. Why? I haven't heard...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

Andrew, I tried to find one on B&W's site and was unable. So I assumed he was refering to the specs I did find which didn't provide much info at all. I totally agree with you about listening for your self. I also agree with you about "reference" level. I usually watch around -10 under...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

I forgot to ask how can you tell this from spec. sheet and xo point? I mean wouldn't you have to actually listen to them to tell how well they handle directivity? I mean without intimate knowledge of the actual xo or testing them how can you be sure?

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

I agree if someone doesn't know or care to learn about it that THX equipment may be the right choice for that person. However for Vaughan's manager to reject the idea of the customer to use his B&W's seems rude and insulting,to me. If the guy likes the sound of the B&W's he may well enjoy a HT...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

This makes no sense to me at all. No matter how good they reproduce sound they are no good for HT?! HUH?? According to THX the concept is to make every seat in the theater sound as good as any other.Sounds like a good idea to me,at first. What this means to me given the extreme off-axis...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

Vaughan, Your manager needs to "unlearn what he has learned"- Yoda The Empire Strikes Back. Seriously though allot has changed since 1970 and he should wake up. There are several movies that have frequency that drops to the mid to low 20Hz in all the channels. Granted most reciever's and...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

Where did you read about adding distortion to the signal? I believe what he means by "reminiscent of live music" Is that the instruments and vocals sound real. At the risk of sounding like a nutcase: Have you ever gotten a cd or lp when you where younger and the music touched you in some...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

Vaughan, I see what you mean now. What he states isn't exactly true when it comes to all ported designs. I recently built a atlas 15" sub that was ported and found it to have excellent sound quality. It was the first ported sub that I actually liked. Of course it is a 6 cu. ft. enclosure. I...

What makes a good HT speaker as apposed to a good Music speaker.

What exactly do you disagree with him on? I believe what he is getting at is that almost all the main stream "subs" are poor designs. I believe that is why those in the diy community that go IB never go back. It is because they finally got the output they were looking for with the exceptional...

Vaughan, Follow the link I provided and click on the "free journals" link and download journal #1 and 2 it should provide you with enough factual and practical info.
