Interview Lucasfilm on Star Wars the Complete Saga Blu-ray: Hands on Report

See, this is the revisionist defense at it's worst. There's no evidence Lucas wanted the lightsabers to be pink and dull, and plenty of evidence that they're supposed to be red and brilliant. A lot of the time, the blades were red in previous versions! We know this, Lucas knows this, ILM knows...

Interview Lucasfilm on Star Wars the Complete Saga Blu-ray: Hands on Report

FWIW, they offer no specifics whatsoever for HT or SW geeks like myself as to why they think the PQ is so great. For me, this is still a no-sale. Until I see someone say things like "there are no more pink/dull lightsabers" or "the colors match within each film," I have no reason to believe that...

Interview Lucasfilm on Star Wars the Complete Saga Blu-ray: Hands on Report

The Digital Fix (used to be Digital Times) has a review up. The video and audio quality portions seem pretty unenthusiastic, especially in light of what was mentioned by Lucasfilm last month.

The fixed them in some shots. In many others they did not. For instance, throughout most of the Luke/Vader battle in ESB.

Interview Lucasfilm on Star Wars the Complete Saga Blu-ray: Hands on Report

I PM'ed you, but just to clarify, the "ignorance and disdain" line was meant to reflect Lucas, not you. I think it was poorly-worded on my part, because I was using the 2nd-person view as his hypothetical POV while also responding to you.

Interview Lucasfilm on Star Wars the Complete Saga Blu-ray: Hands on Report

Really? You do realize that this is said in the defense of a filmmaker and a company that whose reputations were built on the concept of home-brewed moviemaking and SFX. ILM went out of its way to find people who were the 1970s equivalent of some guy doing a home computer conversion in his own...

Blu-ray Review HTF BLU-RAY REVIEW: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Ultimate Edition

Really? I haven't seen anyone saying this. People seem to think of Gambon's Dumbledore as an improvement, seeing as how he was actually interested in playing the part instead of being badgered into it by a grandchild. See, this is the thing BD-Live would have been great for, although...

Blu-ray Review HTF BLU-RAY REVIEW: The Darjeeling Limited

Fantastic Mr Fox has already had a decent Blu-ray release. I'd rather we get Rushmore and/or The Royal Tenenbaums first.

    PSYCHO to Blu Ray

Obviously the studio knew about it, they're releasing it. In any case, the point is completely moot when the original track is provided, which it is.

    PSYCHO to Blu Ray

I'm not seeing where the lack of respect is. The original mono track is included on the release and the changed track is an option, not forced.

And in the process been sued (possibly into bankruptcy), and be unable to license films from many, if not all major studios and filmmakers. In the meantime, as Michael points out, Storaro and Bertolucci (or more likely the production company) simply give it to another distributor who doesn't...

    Last Emperor uncropped

How is Criterion "blindly" doing anything? They're not the production company of the film, they're the distributor, and are therefore legally bound (the whole point of licensing) to adhere to what the producers demands of the film. If the cinematographer wants a certain framing, and the director...

Are You Happy Now With The Pace and/or Quality of Catalog Releases on Blu-ray?

Not really. CDs were definitely "well-established" in 2000, by virtue of being available for 20 years. In any case, there's more data that I could find that refutes online DVD sales being large by that time. Sure, but that still doesn't address the major economic factors I laid out.

Are You Happy Now With The Pace and/or Quality of Catalog Releases on Blu-ray?

Well, then provide evidence of such. Amazon's official website says they didn't even start selling DVDs until 1998, and their first profitable year wasn't until 2002. Even when Bezos was given Time's "Man of the Year" at the end of 1999, the article mentions DVDs only once, and even then only...

Are You Happy Now With The Pace and/or Quality of Catalog Releases on Blu-ray?

At the same timeline in DVD's growth (2000-2001), online ordering (which often has bigger discounts) wasn't nearly as widespread, and inflation would put a $20 title then at $25 or more. And of course, DVD grew faster and had its major growth period in a time with an up economy (1996-2000)...

This is the same release strategy that has been used since the beginning of home video sales, so if it's a problem, it's certainly not limited to a format or year.

Harry Potter - what is wrong with these discs

I think this is less an issue with the discs and more with either your setup or your preference of how you view them. FWIW, I've seen little to no complaints on any of the discs before, apart from minor filtering issues. In fact, I've never seen them given anything less than above-average. Also...
