    Help please Progressive Scan

I tried that LG (two different ones actually) on a Sony HDTV (CRT) and had the same problem and worse. I had the same problem with a Toshiba and now with a Sony upconvert DVD player. I posted about it too but no one seems to have any answers or advice.

    525p Progressive Scan Question

Thanks! That makes sense that then that it would have 45 "extra" lines for "extra" info since it's a video game right? It seems like it would have extra info. I'm going to check it out tonight and see how much better it looks. It looks pretty sweet right now, running in "normal" mode.

    525p Progressive Scan Question

Hello, I just noticed that one of my Gamecube games, Soul Calibur, supports progressive scan if the Gamecube is hooked up via the component video cable (which mine is). It says in parentheses (525p) every time it says "Progressive Scan". My question is, will this work on my TV since my TV says...

    Sony Digital Reality Creation

Thanks for the input. The only i'm still confused about is what exactly 3/2 pulldown and 3/2 reverse pulldown are. Also, someone mentioned the Avia disk. I bought the other popular one (can't remember the name off the top of my head for some reason). Is the Avia better? I've heard...

    Sony Digital Reality Creation

Hello. I have a Sony 30" Widescreen HDTV with DRC (Digital REality Creation). You can select from 3 different modes: DRC Progressive, DRC Interlaced, and DRC Cinemotion. Apparently, DRC is supposed to "upconvert" analog signals to "near high-def quality". And true, some analog signals look...

Single disc DVD player with HDMI...

Hi John. I've had a couple different ones, including the Toshiba you mentioned. I have that one now but plan on returning it to Best Buy over the weekend. Not that it's a horrible player or anything. But here are the pros and cons as I see them: Pro's: nice, clean picture, easy set-up Cons...

    Toshiba 5970 Upconvert DVD player

Well, after trying two different LG 418 upconvert DVD players with my Sony 30" Widescreen HDTV with the HDMI input, I gave up and bought the Toshiba 5970. It too has the HDMI output and it comes with an HDMI cable (seems real cheap) so I figured with a new player and cable I should be able to...

    HD DVD Player Help

I just bought a Toshiba 5970 from Best Buy. I figured I'd try it and at the very least it would tell me if I had a problem with the TV, the cable (since it comes with an HDMI cable), or the machine. Well, so far, it's working beautifully. I'm using the same cable I had the LG hooked up with and...

    HD DVD Player Help

Thanks Eric. Actually, I bought the cable from Ebay for about 30.00. I've sent the seller an email to see if I can exchange. But in the meantime I may just buy another one from the sources you listed. Thanks for that. The new LG player that I got from Circuit City is having teh same issue as...

    HD DVD Player Help

The DVD Player that I've been posting about the last couple days, the LG upconvert, is not working properly with the HDMI cable. So I was wondering if anyone might have some insight as to whether it's the cable or the TV. I returned the DVD player to Circuit City today and got a new and I'm...

    LG DVD Player Upconversion Question

Yeah, after talking to Crutchfield, Sony and LG I think this is how it goes for the LG DVD player: 1. No progressive scan with HDMI 2. Upconversion with copy-protected disks with HDMI 3. Upconversion with NON-copy-protected disks with component 4. Progressive scan with component. The...

    LG DVD Player Upconversion Question

Sorry about starting the new thread. Just wanted to be sure people saw it. Anyway, I think after doing some more research that i have it figured out: Since the HDMI output/input supports HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) you can upconvert using that input. Because even if you were to...

    LG DVD Player Upconversion Question

Thanks for the reply. The manual says, under Component Video: For 720p and 1080i resolution, only non-copy protected discs can be played back. If the disk is copy protected, it will be displayed at the 480p resolution. It only states that under Component video. It doesn't mention this under...

    LG DVD Player Upconversion Question

Hello: I just got a Widescreen Sony 30" HDTV with an HDMI input and an LG DVD Player (LGDVB418) that upconverts to 720/1080. I have it hooked up to the TV via the HDMI cable. My questions are: 1. Will I still get progressive scan with the HDMI input? In the manual for the DVD player it talks...

    Jvc 32" Hdtv

Hello: I have a quick question about this TV: I'Art PRO AV-32DF74 32-inch Digital HDTV Monitor My question is this, it says that it has a display of 1080. but it doesn't mention 480 or 720 like some of the other tvs do. Some list it as 480/720/1080 whereas this one just says 1080. Does...

    32" HDTV--Panasonic

A must-have feature? So if you buy a 4:3 tv it's a good thing to look for? So far, I've only seen it in the JVC. But I haven't seen how this one looks. I'll check it out at Sears. The standard JVC tv's I've seen in the past were all really nice. Not sure how their HD looks though. Thanks for...

    32" HDTV--Panasonic

I'm seriously thinking about getting the following tv: http://store.yahoo.com/saveandmake/ct-32hl43.html Does anyone have any experience with this set? In the store, it looked great. This tv has a DVI input which I'm not too sure about but I guess will enable the closest thing to HD DVD as...

    Rush in Rio DVD

Yeah, I just thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone here had any suggestions. But I contacted Backstage Club where I ordered it and they are sending me a new one. This site is pretty cool, huh? There are a lot of really knowledgable and nice people here.

    Rush in Rio DVD

Hello, I just got the Rush in Rio concert DVD and have noticed two technical problems with it. One, during the "intermission" where the animation begins and plays, the disk starts to "stick", then about 2 seconds into the animation itself it completely freezes. To get it going again I have to...

    Progressive Scan DVD player

Thanks for the replies. It seems like it could be either the TV OR the DVD player! The TV is about 2.5 years old at this point. What do you mean about a line doubler? Has that stopped the blacking out issue? Have you noticed it's worse on older DVD's? Would that even matter? Thanks!

    30" Hdtv?

I've been looking at the Samsung and Zenith 30-32" HDTV sets. They both look pretty good to me. the Zenith has a built in tuner so that's a plus. but the 30" Samsung is widescreen. Are there any other options out there in this size? It seems that most HDTV are 34" or larger. So these two...

    Progressive Scan DVD player

hello: i have a Phillips progressive scan DVD player hooked up via component cables to a Hitachi HDTV-ready 53" tv. On some DVD's everything works fine with progressive scan turned on. On most, however, there are problems. the main thing is that the picture will go black every so often. it...

    Samsung HDTV 30"

Hello: I've been looking at the Samsung 30" Widescreen HDTV set (I'm sure what the model number is, but it's the one that Sears, Best Buy and Circuit City all have right now for 999.00). I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this set? I read some reviews and they were mostly...

    Picture blackout

Actually I have the DVD player hooked up via an S-Video cable to the receiver and then from the receiver to the S-Video input on the TV. But I had the problem when I had it connected directly to the TV via the S-Video input. I guess I could try the composite in. There's only on S-Video in...

    Picture blackout

Hi: I have a small issue with my Sony Trinitron TV. I have a Pioneer DVD player connected to it (through a receiver, but this problem also happens when the DVD player is connected directly to the TV). You know how when you have the TV on the "Video" channel, as opposed to TV, it is a blank...

Video Blackout with Progressive Scan DVD

Hello. I have a 53" Hitachi HDTV-Ready TV and a Phillips Progressive Scan DVD Player. It's hooked up to the tv using component cables. Component Video Cable: AR

It's the mid-grade series, I think it's called Pro or Professional. I did check the other day to make sure it wasn't a directional cable and it's not, as far as I can tell. I didn't even know cables could be directional until I bought an AR Subwoofer cable the other day and just happened to...

    Turntables--preamps

My reciever (Onkyo) doesn't have a dedicated Phono input. So does this mean I have to buy a preamp to hook my turntable into first? I saw a Sony Turntable that said it had a preamp built in. I have an old Pioneer turntable. Is there a way to tell if it has a preamp builtin? It's very old (over...

    Pro Logic II--Help!

I think the only real difference between Movie and Music mode is that Movie mode directs more of the speaking to the center channel speaker for more natural sounding dialogue, whereas Music tends to "spread it out" a bit to the three speakers up front for more of a stereo sound. But honestly, I...
