Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum, so I'm re-posting.. with 5 speakers in the ceiling, can anyone recommend a location for a sub-woofer ? either in the ceiling or on a side wall ? Where would it be located relative to the other speakers ? thanks.
sounds like an electrolytic capacitor in the amp's power supply went bad. If the amp is that good, see if there is a electronics repair shop nearby that could check it out for you.
Thank you all for your responses. I found out from Comcast that their HD box puts out a PCM signal, and their DVR box puts out Dolby 5.1. There is no alternate selection for either box so it's obviously on the Onkyo side. I like Jeremy's response about repeatedly pressing the Display button...
I'm thinking it may have something to do with how the Comcast cable box is configured. Both systems that I recently installed are having the same issue. It's interesting because they both have the same receiver and both have the same model cable box. I haven't had this issue with any other...
Does anyone know why I wouldn't be getting sound in my rear speakers when I'm in the Dolby listening modes when listening to tv broadcasts ? It works in the 'Onkyo Original DSP modes', and the sound level test produces sound in all speakers. When playing a DVD I get full sound. I'm connected via...
I have a restaurant sound system where the customer's music source is an ipod. the volume levels of the songs vary considerably. Does anyone know of a volume stabilizer that will work ? Thanks

Can Anyone tell me if there is a device on the market to extend an catv connection over a wireless device ? I am putting a t.v. where it would be very difficult to run a coax cable. There is a catv outlet on the other side of the room. Is there a transmitter and receiver that I can...
Thank you for your responses.. From what you say, should I conclude that a movie received on a Satellite broadcasting an HD signal would look better on an HD TV than the same movie played on a home DVD player, on that same TV ?
Ok, what's the deal with HD tv ? besides the TV.. Is it only about signals coming from the Satellite or cable companies, or does it make a difference from a DVD source, as well. I see that besides component cable connections there are HD cables. Rick
That sure seems misleading, doesn't it. The people buying these TV's think their paying for the ability to receive HD transmissions without incurring additional costs. ( they should know better, eh ) Thank you for the response.. Rick
Can someone give the lowdown on the new TVs that have built-in cards for high definition broadcasts ? I presume that I would have to get a card from the Satellite Dish company. Does it save me any money over having to get their hardware, as well. Are their different types of cards ? ie...
Yes, Jeff, I know the argument. I have done extensive analysis on this from a listening perspective and my only thoughts about why I can hear the difference is that rather than looking at how fast the electrons are traveling, think about it as the sound waves leaving the speakers at different...
Let's see.. how do I respond to these comments without starting a pissing contest. First of all, a friend of mine did the math on the balanced wire length also. He took your position until I demonstrated that, in reality, the difference is very apparent. I have my own theory as to why. The...
There aren't any 3-prong plugs on the system to lift. And I have relocated the ground to the electrical panel.. no change. I think I need a coax ground lift (?). But, thanks for the suggestions.
I usually suggest that you place a piece of indoor/ outdoor carpet on the bottom of the speaker, and/ or the bottom of a wooden stand. I find that this works very well in isolating the resonance from transferring to the floor or shelf. Hope that helps.
More and more I'm running into systems with a hum caused by the connection to the local RG-6 CATV. Recently, I spent a lot of time isolating the problem and even re-located the catv ground wire but it didn't help. My question.. does anyone know of a product that can isolate the RG-6 from the...
Hi Zach, Here's a couple more important tips. Make sure the wire going to all three front speakers is exactly the same length. Also, the wires going to the rear speakers should be the same length, and if possible, a multiple of the length of the front speakers. In other words, if the front...
