i have a denon avr3802...the manual says the lfe for DTS should be set to -10 for dts music and 0 for movies. that is the opposite of what people in this thread are saying. incidentally i only have one dts music cd...steely dan gaucho..and i listen to it at the normal 0 setting and the bass...
i have a 3802. it doesnt show it as dd ex, it shows it as 6.1 surround. its exactly the same thing. they just didnt get the license to list it as dd ex until lucasfilm allowed them to start doing so. in fact, i just watched harry potter 2, and the dd ex flag was present and lit the indicator on...
thanks scott, i guess ill just have to wait for best buy to put it on display and see what i think caompared to the pio. id buy a pio or a panny (my two choices i really want) but so far they dont offer two component inputs and a dvi-hdcp input. hopefully their new models (i wish theyd get em...
daniel, you dont have to get a different model. every single unit of that model will have slightly different straight line quirks. its just a matter of getting one wiht the least quirks. it is not something common to the entire production run, just to individual units. if you got a new unit, it...
thats a problem with almost every sony trinitron ive seen. the straight lines sometimes bend at the edges...its something you have to live with if you choose to buy a CRT sony. sorry. i have a 13 year old sony trinitron xbr console thats been that way since day 1. if it bugs you enough id say...
I am considering purchasing the new Sampo 50 inch plasma becuase it has all the features that I want, however I am nervous about buying something named "Sampo". I guess they are a mostly commercial display company, making mostly projection and big screen sets? Anyone owning a SAmpo plasma that...
jeff, i believe the reason is because in 5/7 mode only ther voice or singing information is transmitted to the center channel...remember 5/7 mode is a STEREO mode, and as such the only information that would be sent to the center channel is voice frequencies, regardless of "large" or "small"...
thats the receiver. i thought you were talking about the dd dropouts due to the rear channel flag, however those are only quick little dropouts that come right back.
rob, all you need is a press on 300 ohm to 75 ohm adapter. then you can connect a regular dipole 300 ohm fm antenna to the adapter and press the 75 ohm portion onto the barrel fm sonnector on the denon. these were sen out ad nauseum in old vcr's, if yuo dont have one you can probably get one...
eric, while the dolby digital signal is present, press the 5.1/7.1 surround button on the remote or the faceplate until it says "6.1 surround". thats it.
thanks chuck, but why would denon do something that stupid when the primary purpose of component video is HDTV? they knew, even when the 3802 was being designed, that HDTV was here. also, if i buy an HDTV tuner box, will it have multiple component inputs and therefore provide switching?
i own a denon 3802 and am thinking of getting a plasma display. if i want to use the component video out from my dvd player and component video out from an HD cable box, i will need to use my 3802 to do the switching. i know this unit will not do upconversion, but i dont care about that. i just...
john, you are incorrect. dd-ex is ONLY matrix. you can read about it on the dolbydigital web site. dts-es is either matrix or discrete. if your receiver is set up for 6.1 channel surround, it will correctly determine whether or not your disc is matrix or discrete and will always sense the rear...
your receiver will decode all forms of dts. if a dvd were to have 96/24 dts it would also have 48/24 dts for backward compatibility. i personally like dts-cds.
sean, if you are using dvd-audio discs you should be using the external inputs on your receiver and using your dvd players internal decoder. otherwise you are not getting the true 24 bit 96khz 5.1 sound. no receiver other than the denon 5803 has internal decoding for full spectrum dvd-audio 5.1...
grady, youre getting it all. the reason you arent seeing anything in the display is that the receiver is then acting only as a preamp and amp and not as a processor. you HAVE to use the ext. in mode and the internal decoder of your dvd player as the toslink cable will not transmit a dvd-audio...
anthony, i have that unit...it decodes dolby digital ex just fine, only its called 6.1 surround. the reason you think it doesnt is because very few discs are available that will set off the rear channel flag because of dolby's problem with their crappy bitstream, forcing them to turn the flags...
baldemar, i am speaking from a denon standpoint. you are saying that if you set a speaker to small without a sub it routes all bass below the crossover to the fronts. well that is impossible on a denon because the only time you GET a crossover option is when a sub is enabled. in fact the...
you are both incorrect. when a speaker is set to "small" the bass below the crossover frequency is ONLY routed to the subwoofer. if you have it set to "no subwoofer" you will NOT get a crossover option, therefore for either large or small speaker settings the receiver will send full range to...
thanks dan. i will probably be replacing my unit soon with a sacd/dvd-audio player. im eyeing the pioneer elite one that is 400 or the onkyo that is 800. i really like the onkyo layout, especially the menu and control buttons on the front panel. i guess the genius engineers at pioneer think that...
robert, i only have a problem with ONE disk i own, thats a dokken music video dvd, and that doesnt always happen. all other dvds i have play fine. its only the library ones with small blemishes, but they dont look bad enough to cause a problem. i have had no problems at all with dts.
well, i just watched insomnia and had at least 5 dropouts during the middle of the movie. im using the monster optical cable, so i dont think its the cable. im using a toshiba 4700 dvd player. noone else has had problems wiht the 3802 dropping out in DD mode, so i doubt its my decoder in my...
dave, accprdign to the denon web site, it does not. it is not mentioned in the description of the 3803. buy either of the pioneer elite dvd players that do sacd and dvd audio. they both have bass management.
chuck, i find it hard to believe it would make any noticeable difference on a movie soundtrack. it may make a difference on music, such as the infamous queen dts96/24 cd everyone here keeps mentioning. however, if you use dvd-audio as i do you get the same resolution (96/24) so dts 96/24 is...
