How do I know when to adjust the settings on my DVD player and when to adjust them on the TV. I've calibrated my TV using Avia and it looks great but there are many settings (brightness, hue, etc...) in the DVD player. How does one know when to change those? Scott
Does anyone know the pros and cons of these speakers? It seems that the JBL Studio floor speakers are no longer carried by Best Buy and I really haven't ever like the sound of the Northridge series so I'm left with the two brands to ponder. I've spent some time listening to each within the store...
I have to agree with Oren in this case and I'd like to add some thoughts of my own... Personally, I love home theater and I love to learn about it but I found out long ago that my hobby is not necessarily everyone else's hobby. At first I tried to pass on what I knew to each customer but...
My local Best Buy just got in their Athena line and I must say, they sound really good compared to what else they carry. I'm in the market for some decent towers and it comes down the the Northridge JBLs (because the Studio towers are clearancing out), the new Klipch Synergy series they carry...
Wow, I've had that encounter here in Spokane, WA and a buddy of mine actually bought some in Seattle (Ooops). It's amazing how widespread this is. Scott
It's not cheap, but Best Buy in my area will do it for $499. I would assume they would also have this service where you live. A buddy of mine got it and the installers did a great job. The two guys spent about 5-1/2 hours at his house and even mounted all his speakers where he wanted them. I...
Well, whether I mess with it or not, the problem still needs to be fixed. The way I figure it, I can try and do it myself and avoid a service call or I can put it back how it was and use the service plan. I plan on making no major adjustments and I'll be as careful as possible. I see no such...
According to the service manual, the TV has a few built in test patterns. Should I use those or Avia's??? Gregg, you seem to think I shouldn't try this. Might I ask why? I know this sort of thing is not easy to fix but is there a chance of really messing things up? I can always just set it back...
I've messed around in the service menu a couple times to adjust a couple simple geometry problems. I think I know enough about grayscale to know that I probably shouldn't mess with it. Would it be the same as everything else?--I.E. write down the settings and I can always put them back... And...
I've recently noticed a dark red glow on my TV on the dark scenes when I watch DVDs. Usually, I only notice the problem when I get the room really dark but it's annoying enough for me to post a question on here about it. If the movie is wide-screen, I can see it in the black bars on the top and...
I'm just wondering why Bose makes you run all the satellites through their subwoofer. Does the module in some way change the sound of the satellites? What would happen if you ran the satellites directly off the receiver and used a better sub? I don't want a Bose system but I have to sell this...
Jim, when I enter any new settings in movie mode, the set returns to "Memory" mode. Now just to be sure of what you're saying, the SVM will still be disabled anyway? Scott
The only problem is, on my TV, Movie mode sets Color, Brightness, etc at 50%. My Avia calibration is miles away from these settings. Does anyone have any tips on where to find service manuals???? Scott
Does anyone know the easiest way to disable VSM on a Toshiba 36AF41? I've read several reports and it seems there may be multiple ways to do this. I can't, however, find a person that seems to be sure of what they are talking about. A method using the service menu is preferable as I'd rather not...
This approach always scares me. Anyone who has dealt with a couple manufacturer warranties knows that getting timely service is not always an easy thing to do. Combine with that the idea of contacting a credit card company that has no ties to the service centers local retailers do and I foresee...
I sell these exact units and I can tell you we've had an extremely high return rate on these. No specific problem exists with all of them. Issues range from bad spin motors to a bad power supply to no back-light on the LCD. Obviously they're extremely cheap in their construction. My advice? By...
When do you think that HDTV will actually become the only way TV is broadcast. I keep hearing about the government's mandates of late 2006 but I really doubt we'll see only HDTV broadcasts in Nowhere, Montana by then. It seems they've been behind schedule on many aspects of this big change so...
I looked around Best Buy's site and it seems that the Zaldeks are very similarly priced to the Diamonds. In some cases, the Zaldeks even seemed more expensive! Why are they so close in price if the Diamonds are so much better? Scott
