For the paintable sconces (Lowes), do you need to use special, heat-resistant paint? Can halogen bulbs be used in place of standard (incandescent) bulbs? JEFF
On my BFD, when it is in BYPASS mode (no filters on) I don't get any hum thru my sub (SVS 20-39 PC+) but when I turn off the bypass allowing the BFD to EQ, I hear a faint hum. Would a cheater plug on my sub amp help? JEFF
Thanks Wayne :) Just wanted to give credit where credit is due. This EQ'ing seems more complex that it appears - at least onthe surface. I'll restart this post on another forum I participate in as threads there support attachments. Thanks again (you wouldn't remember, but over 4 years...
Thank you... I'm sorry I wasn't clear (all the excitement). I understand how to use the BFD and have started playing with the filters and seeing what effect they have. However, I'm just poking inthe dark and could use some evaluation of my un-EQ'd freq response curve. I have an Excel spreadsheet...
I recently purchased a Behringer Feedback Destroyer (BFD) to EQ my SVS 20-39 PC+ sub (which I have had for over a year now). I thoroughly enjoy the SVS but would like to get the most performance from it that I can. Using my Radio Shack meter and Stryke Bass Zone audio CD, I have found that I...
I've had CV IO with the SA4200HD box since March,2003. Not much HD on MSG (Mets home games on Tues and Wed), WNBA, Rangers and Knicks at the Garden; FOX has even less. HBOHD looks good. Don't have SHOHD. I'm waiting for locals in HD and for Discovery HD...yeah,right. JEFF
Pair of Polk LSi9's. They list for over $1000 but can be had on-line for about $600 a pair. Comes in ebony or cherry. Sounds warm, great bass from a small book shelf size speaker. Chack out Polk's web site for more info. I have the 9's, C, and FX's and will be buying the 15's (floor standers). JEFF
Thanks Brian. I got the LSi9's mainly because I don't have floor space for the 15's. I have the LSi9's on AV racks to the left and right of my Mits 65907. With the SVS 20-39PC+, there is no need for floor standing speakers. Thanks for the thumbs up on the LSi15's. I'll be getting them for...
I've got the LSi9's paired with my SVS 20-39PC+ sub (along with the LSiC, LSiFX) and with a god sub such as the SVS, you don't need floor standing speakers such as the LsI15. BTW, I have a 4 year old Sony ES30 reciever (80 watts x 5) and the receiver is plenty powerful despite the LSi's being 4...
PaulBAW: I have the LSi9, LSiC, and LSiFX (and SVS 20-39PC+) connected to my SonyES30 receiver. The Sony ES handles these speakers without problems. Make sure you set the switch on the back of the receiver to 4 ohms. JEFF
I have the LSiC, LSi9, and LSiFX hooked up to my SonyES30 receiver (about 4 years old) which is 80watts x 5. The receiver has a 4/8 ohm switch in the back (set to 4 ohms for the Polks). I don't listen at reference levels but have watched some movies at a fairly high volume and have not had any...
Ron I have the Bose AM-15 which I replaced last winter with a Polk LSi setup (and an SVS 20-39PC+). I used the Bose for about 3 years (I was a newbie then). Of course the Polk/SVS combo is way better but contrary to most of the Bose bashers out there, my setup didn't sound too bad (it takes a...
Terence I have the 20-39PC+ with a Sony ES30 receiver (about 4 years old). It's a great combo. My family room is 22 x 14 x 8 and the sub is more than capable. I have the sub volume up only about 1/3 and my sub out on the receiver at -5 db (range is -10 to +10 db). Get the sub and then the...
Nice review Ed. Where in NY are you (I am in Orange County)? I too have the 20-39PC+ and couldn't be happier. I have a Polk LSi setu all around. In my family room (22 x 14 x 8), the 20-39PC+ is more than adequate. JEFF
This is to Don and Stacey who have provided such an invaluable service as far as learning about the issues concerning DVD player performance, and how to most wisely spend our money... I have the Sony 9000ES for about 2 years now and I do recognize that it has the chroma bug which is really the...
I second what Frank said. I purchased the LSi9/C/FX setup to go along with my SVS 20-39PC+. I'd say the Polks sound warm; not bright (I have a Sony ES30 receiver). For HT, they are great! If you like a brightr sound for music listening, you could always EQ with some treble. I'd say they are...
I too purchased a Polk LSi setup on line. I got the LSi9, LSiC, and LSiFX for about 40% off retail...all in original packing (double boxed), warrenties, etc....They are great sounding speakers. While there are other brands in similar price ranges, its unlikely they can be purchased at such a...
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum to ask this question but here goes. I'm upgrading my speakers and I was wondering if I can use 2 different guage speak wires as the lengths of the runs are different for my front/center compared with my surounds. My fronts and center length...
I was ready to post a new thread but will add to your question since it is somewhat related. My question is: can 2 different guage speak wires be used if the lengths of the runs are different? My fronts and center lenght requirements are about 15 feet, so I was thinking 14g; my rears are 40 -...
I’m contemplating an upgrade to a Polk LSi setup. My seating position is right up against the wall behind me and I was wondering if speakers such as the LSi7 (which are direct radiating) would sound as though the sound was going right past me, as opposed to a speaker like the LSiFX which has the...
I too am interested in the LSi series. The retail prices though, are quite high, and Polk does not authorize internet sales for this model line (except for Crutchfield = too high a price). Have any of you purchased your speakers from the *discount* sites that I see are selling the LSi series for...
I have a question about the Studio 40s: Can they be positioned horizontally? My layout dictates I position bookshelf speakers that way. I am too looking at Paradigms (Monitor and Studio line) and the Polk Lsi9s. Does anyone know if the Polks are more in line with the Monitors or the Studios (not...
I am interested in the Paradigm Monitor 5 series and would like to hear from those who have had a satisfying buying experience. I live about 50 miles north of NYC and would appreciate hearing from those in the southern part of NY (NYC to Albany), north Jersey, and CT as to what places they have...
I too have the 20-39 PC Plus sub. My Sony ES30 reciever does not have an adjustable cross over and the fixed setting is rather high (I believe it is around 100 Hz). To add to that, the transition from mains to sub starts REALLY high; above 200 Hz and was quite audible (and distracting) when I...
Thanks Scott. I guess this is what is meant by *upgrade-itis*. For now, I live with my sub up front (not in a corner). I too hope to place the sub back in the rear if/when I can afford a new receiver. JEFF
Greg (and others). I need an education: When you select a crossover frequency on the receiver (and I understand it is a gradula process of fading out the mains and fading in the sub), does the cross over START when the frequency reaches 100 Hz, does it EDN there? or is it in the middle...
Thanks Greg. Do you have your SVS sub up front and its still localizable? I mostly had problems when it was in the rear - next to me (listening position). I too am considering a receiver upgrade at some point. BTW, I have the 9000ES DVD player too (great; except for the chroma bug - which...
