Sick and tired of missing out on deals only available in the US! Canadians what to do

Come to think of it, you're right. You have no choice when the individual transaction leaves a paper trail, e.g. buying/selling a car. For everyday transactions, I don't see what the point is of a law that is impossible to enforce (especially when the average person on the street probably...

Sick and tired of missing out on deals only available in the US! Canadians what to do

Serge, I think the real issue is that the government can track the purchase so they take their cut. If they had a reliable way to track transactions among individuals within Canada, I bet they'd tax these transactions too!!

Sick and tired of missing out on deals only available in the US! Canadians what to do

The point is I'm not buying from a store. I'm buying from an individual selling a piece of gear. I don't have to pay GST to anyone if I buy something from you, Serge or anybody else.

Sick and tired of missing out on deals only available in the US! Canadians what to do

Just thought of something. Since I'm buying from an individual, can't he simply ship it as a gift so that I can save on taxes, duties etc? We're getting close to Christmas anyway, so maybe I'll ask him to gift-wrap the tuner. :D

Sick and tired of missing out on deals only available in the US! Canadians what to do

Jesus-H-Christ! How do they justify this madness  Heck, the guy is asking $175 for the tuner. Since the unit is slighly damaged, I'll tell him to put a lesser value on the customs and insurance forms. ;)

Wait a minute. Are you saying that even if you buy a five year old piece of gear from some guy on eBay or Audiogon you gotta pay GST? What about duties and taxes? I'm in the process of negotiating the price of a 5 year old tuner from at ad on Audiogon (the unit even has previous shipping...

    Sony STR-DA4ES vs. 5ES Receivers

At least two independent reviews (Audioholics - http://www.audioholics.com/productre...battleP1_1.php and another I read in the British magazine What Hi-Fi?) claim that the 5ES is superior to the 4ES. I'd like to see a review of the 7ES, including how it compares with the 5ES and 4ES soundwise.

B&K Ref 50 room correction vs. Pioneer MCACC

Does anyone know how these room correction systems are similar/different? Which provides the more flexible options? Colin

B&K Ref 50: NEED INFO PLEASE!!!

There's no mention of DTS 24/96 in the manual. :frowning: Oh well, perhaps in the next software upgrade. Does anyone know what DSP(s) the Ref 50 uses?

    Denon 3803 info

Unbelievable! From reading through the manual, it would appear that there's a single crossover that applies to all channels. Denon has come up short on this product. :frowning:

How's the MCACC in the 49TX different from that in the 47TX or 45TX?

David, you're late. The bashing started a week ago when the Audigy 2 was announced. The bashing also ended last week (well, until the reviews come in).

Sonys 4ES vs Pioneer Elite VSX-43TX

Does either the Sony or Pioneer provide bass management for stereo? I can't see the point of crossing over my satellites at 60Hz for multichannel surround but have them take the full bandwidth with no sub out in stereo.

    Pioneer VSX-4x Series Audio Scaler

I notice that Pioneer provides an Audio Scaler in the VSX-4x receivers. This feature is supposed to upsample/interpolate digital streams (I assume that includes 16bit/44.1KHz CD streams) to 24bit/96KHz. Has anyone tried this feature? Is there any noticable difference in sound quality when...

Sonys 4ES vs Pioneer Elite VSX-43TX

Oh Shoot! I didn't realize that the 4ES provides only 96/24 DACs for multichannel mode. I was just beginning to embrace this unit :frowning:. Then again, 96/24 DACs are fine for movie mode. For multichannel music mode, most players have 24/192 DACs and the Sony provides full analog bypass. Ok...

    STR-DA4ES Question

Thanks for the response, Aaron. As far as the multi-channel inputs are concerned, I happen to be from the school of thought that believes that an option for bass management, etc. for these inputs (D/A) is a better evil than none at all. What's the point of having a prestine signal that doesn't...

    STR-DA4ES Question

This might be a silly question but...do all of the internal processing options in the STR-DA4ES(bass management, time delay settings etc.) work through the multichannel pre-outs?
