    Wood vs. metal speaker stands--pros and cons?

    If you've got an IKEA store near you, I just picked up a pair of 36" stands for my rears there for only $30. They each consist of a six-inch square concrete block with four steel tubes rising up to a small platform to mount the speaker on. The wires can be run through one of the tubes to the...

    I just don't get this DTS

    Yikes! You're not kidding! I went to audioreview to check the reviews on my player and it wasn't pretty! That's all right. Even my wife was talking about upgrading the player the other day. Come to think of it, it does skip and freeze quite a bit. She got it for me for Christmas 2000, mainly...

    I just don't get this DTS

    I just don't get this DTS

    When I play a DD 5.1 DVD through my DD/DTS receiver, I get 5.1 sound. But If I put in a DTS-encoded disc, I get no sound. I don't see anything in the DVD player setup menu about enabling it for DTS. Do I need a "DTS" DVD player?

    Onkyo HT-R500 receiver question

    Great! I knew I'd find the answer here. I sure don't remember seeing that in the manual, which seems sort of incomplete.

    Onkyo HT-R500 receiver question

    So I use a sound meter to calibrate all the speakers together, but when I shut it off the settings return to a factory default (which are all over the place, like +3 for the left surround, +10 for the right, etc.) Isn't there a way to save the settings? The manual sure doesn't say anything about...

    using s-video

    Does it make sense to use an s-video cable between the dvd player output and the A/V receiver video input, but a yellow composite video cable between the A/V receiver output and the TV? The old TV only has a composite input, and I don't think there will be a new TV purchase anytime soon...
